Note: If this episode doesn’t make each and every listener want to go out and a) download and play the free demo of Barael’s Legacy and b) listen to and buy all of The Sword’s albums and merch, then no episode of any podcast ever could. - Albert

‘On our third episode, I am joined by Justin Dressler, a completely-impromptu-to-be-meeting-him-this-late-in-my-life-because-it-totally-feels-like-we’ve-grown-up-all-this-time-and-known-eachother-since-childhood-tastic kindred spirit whom I met through r/TheSword (classic mythology and high/mythopoeic fantasy-based metal band), creator of a game named Barael’s Legacy, based on said band’s music. Though the feel of this episode by it’s nature differs somewhat in tone to our usual programming, it’s reason/s for existing are manyfold, not least of which is what Justin and Barael’s Legacy represent and indicate the heretofore untapped potential of:
Games Based On Albums.
Who *wouldnt* want to play a game based on Metallica, King Diamond, or even Sia, St. Vincent,
or Mastodon, whose oeuvre is replete with narratively rich and world-building infused concept albums?
Justin and I discuss this and more, permeated by and on-the-whole shamelessly and essentially constituting a love letter to a band we both hold in enormously high regard, not solely for the powerful and sweeping, evocative music, but for J.D. Cronise — main lyricist, vocalist and guitarist — and his creative and writing sensibilities, which are, have always been and continue to be refreshingly erudite and non-ironic, in a genre that can sometimes dip into self-satire, over exaggeration or simple hamminess/corniness — a scholar-artist (scholartist?), mythmaker and multifaceted storyteller amidst a sea of overtly derivative, repetitive or by-the-numbers so-called-music.
Join us as we scry into a potential future, where one day where Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon is playable as a Journey-esque art game, where Motorhead’s Overkill is a multiplayer racer like Mario Kart (MotorKart??), and where Radiohead’s King Of Limbs is a Limbo-like moody existential platformer that goes on to win Best Indie at The Game Awards 2020. Courtesy caveat: contains unapologetic nerdiness, metalness and dagginess.’

All rights reserved to the original content creators of all the above materials - this podcast is literally dedicated to celebrating and directing as many people as possible to their art.
Interactive Artistry is dedicated to showcasing the work of creators who are on the absolute forefront of adding intellectual, psychological, emotional, philosophical, cultural and artistic richness, maturity, layers, dimensions and depth to the Interactive Medium, also known as games.
Cory Barlog's God Of War - Evolving a testosterone-fuelled male power-fantasy into a story of fatherhood, forgiveness and trust.
Fumito Ueda's New Title - After the completion of his seminal 'Dappled Light Trilogy' (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus & The Last Guardian), the 'father of the Art Game' has begun developing what's next...
ThatGameCompany's Sky - a 'game about giving' that emboldens us to see past our differences and disparities and instead find light and connection between each other, rather than conflict. These and many more will be discussed, analysed and reported on weekly, and all news related to the expansion and growth of the medium overall will be covered as well.
As the only artform that, unlike films, tv and literature which are passive experiences - games uniquely share life's own inherent interactivity. In this way they truly have the inherent potential of becoming the most powerfully moving, deeply immersive, emotionally resonant and spiritually transcendent creative medium of our time.
We promote those who, wether consciously or not, are fulfilling this potential, and seek to galvanise discussion around these creators: Artists such as Naughty Dog's Neill Druckmann (The Last of Us), or Jenova Chen, the creator of Journey...or Hideo Kojima, creator of the non-combat focused Stealth genre.
The legitimisation of this medium as a powerhouse for creatively exploring and expressing the human condition on the most profound level possible is of paramount importance, and through Interactive Artistry, We aim to help guide this medium towards what we believe has been it's true destiny since the very beginning:
Being considered by both the wider world and from within the industry as, first and foremost, something far beyond and more worthwhile than mere pastime, or as an avenue for distraction, entertainment, recreation or competition - though those are certainly valued aspects of games in their own right, and have their rightful place.
