*Trigger warning: Femicide + gender-based violence*
This week was tough for us as we unpacked the senseless murder of 15-year-old Elianne Andam, who was fatally stabbed by a 17-year-old boy. The media have been doing the most, talking about knife crime and gang violence, but let's call it what it really is: Femicide. We decided to centre violence against Black girls and women back in the conversation and discuss where this violence stems from and what we can do to prevent gender-based violence.
In the Spotlight: Richie Brave, BBC Presenter, broadcaster and host of radio's biggest group chat 1XtraTalks.
Listen to Richie's latest episode of 1Xtra Talks, where he explores the fallout of violence and experiences of Black girls. Featuring Ebinehita Iyere from Milk Honey Bees, a Black-led safe space for girls/women. Guests: Tshayi Hercules of Gateway Girls, Croydon Father DJ Ace and facilitator Nathaniel Cole.
