Underneath by Code Orange Code Orange released Underneath on March 13, 2020. There was an absolute parade of hype surrounding this album thanks to the critical acclaim the band’s previous release, Forever, received. The hype wasn’t misplaced. Underneath delivers on all fronts thanks to the band’s dedication and aspirations to progress their sound into uncharted territory.
Code Orange formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has made waves in the hardcore and metal scenes since 2008. The members are: Jami Morgan (vocals and drums), Reba Meyers (guitars and vocals), Eric Balderose (programming and vocals), Joe Goldman (bass), Ethan Young (drums live), Dominic Landolina (guitars).
Jami Morgan is the face of the band and previously performed drums and vocals in conjunction live. He has transitioned his role into pure front-man, strictly performing vocals on the live stage. However, it is fair to assume he will still be involved in the writing process when it comes to drums and everything else in future projects.
Underneath is a masterclass in how a band can progress their sound without losing their unique edge. Underneath features plenty of the raw intensity and visceral power found in previous Code Orange releases, but the addition of unique sounds, glitches, and effects have brought new life to heavy music.
