DÍA 29: LA MOTIVACIÓN DEL AMOR
Servid de buena voluntad, como al Señor y no a los hombres. (Efesios 6:7)
No hace falta demasiada experiencia para descubrir que tu cónyuge no siempre motivará tu amor. Es más, muchas veces lo desmotivará. Más veces de las que quisieras, parecerá difícil encontrar la inspiración para demostrar tu amor. Quizá ni siquiera lo reciba cuando intentes expresarlo. Así es la naturaleza de la vida, incluso en matrimonios bastante saludables. Sin embargo, aunque los cambios de humor y los sentimientos pueden crear toda clase de objetivos para la motivación, podemos estar seguros de que uno permanecerá siempre en el mismo lugar. Cuando Dios es tu razón para amar, tu capacidad de amar está garantizada. Esto se debe a que el amor viene de su parte.
Piénsalo de la siguiente manera. Cuando eras un niño, tus padres establecían reglas a seguir. Te ibas a dormir a cierta hora, tu habitación debía estar bastante limpia. Debías terminar la tarea escolar antes de poder jugar... Si eres como la mayoría de las personas, te apartabas de las reglas tanto como las obedecías. Y de no ser por el incentivo de la fuerza y las penitencias, quizá no las hubieras obedecido nunca; pero si en el camino conociste a Cristo o recibiste alguna enseñanza bíblica, es probable que hayas escuchado esta idea: "Hijos, sed obedientes a vuestros padres en todo, porque esto es agradable al Señor" (Colosenses 3:20). Si lo tomaste en serio, sabías que ya no solo debías responder a tus padres.
Dejó de ser una batalla de voluntades entre ti y una figura de autoridad de carne y hueso. Ahora, debías responderle a Dios. Tu mamá y tu papá eran simplemente los intermediarios. Sin embargo, resulta que la relación entre padres e hijos no es lo único que mejora cuando dejas que Dios sea tu motivación. Considera las siguientes áreas en las que agradarle debería transformarse en tu objetivo: El trabajo. "Todo lo que hagáis, hacedlo de corazón, como para el Señor y no para los hombres" (Colosenses 3:23). El servicio. "Obedeced en todo a vuestros amos en la tierra, no para ser vistos, como los que quieren agradar a los hombres, sino con sinceridad de corazón, temiendo al Señor" (Colosenses 3:22).
Todo. Es necesario esforzarse en "todo lo que hagáis [...] sabiendo que del Señor recibiréis la recompensa de la herencia. Es a Cristo el Señor a quien servís" (Colosenses 3:23-24). Aún el matrimonio. "Mujeres, estad sujetas a vuestros maridos, como conviene en el Señor" (Colosenses 3:18). "Maridos, amad a vuestras mujeres, así como Cristo amó a la iglesia y se dio a sí mismo por ella" (Efesios 5:25).
El amor que se exige de tu parte en el matrimonio no depende de la dulzura ni de lo adecuado de tu cónyuge. El amor entre esposo y esposa debería tener un objetivo principal: honrar al Señor con devoción y sinceridad. La bendición que recibe nuestro amado en el proceso es simplemente un maravilloso beneficio adicional. Este cambio de visión y perspectiva es crucial para un cristiano. Poder despertarte sabiendo que Dios es tu fuente y tu provisión (no solo para tus propias necesidades sino también para las de tu cónyuge) cambia por completo el fundamento para interactuar con tu pareja.
Esta persona imperfecta ya no decide cuánto amor mostrarás sino que tu Dios perfecto en todo es el que puede usar aún a una persona con fallas como tú para otorgar favor amoroso a otra. ¿Se ha vuelto difícil convivir con tu esposa últimamente? ¿Su lentitud para superar un desacuerdo te está agotando la paciencia? ¿No puede parar un poco? No le niegues tu amor sólo porque no piensa como tú. Ámala "como al Señor". ¿Tu esposo te deja de lado, no dice demasiado y parece estar meditando en algo de lo que no quiere hablar? ¿Te sientes herida por su falta de disposición a abrirse? ¿Estás cansada de que sea tan brusco contigo y que ni siquiera les responda bien a los niños? No reacciones con una doble dosis de silencio y desinterés. Ámalo de todas formas "como al Señor".
El amor al cual sólo lo motiva el deber no puede resistir demasiado. Y el amor al cual sólo lo motivan las condiciones favorables nunca puede estar seguro de recibir suficiente oxígeno como para seguir respirando. Sólo el amor que se eleva como ofrenda a Dios (que se le devuelve en gratitud por todo lo que ha hecho) puede sostenerse cuando todas las demás razones han perdido la capacidad de vigorizarnos.
A las personas que no les importa tener un matrimonio mediocre pueden dejar el amor librado al azar y esperar lo mejor, En cambio, si estás comprometido a darle a tu cónyuge el mejor amor que puedas, es necesario aspirar a la motivación suprema del amor. El amor que tiene a Dios como su objetivo principal puede alcanzar alturas inimaginables.
El desafío de hoy
Antes de volver a ver a tu cónyuge hoy, ora por él mencionando su nombre y sus necesidades. Sin importar si te resulta fácil o no, di "te amo" y luego expresa tu amor por tu pareja de alguna manera tangible. Vuelve a orar y agradécele a Dios por darte el privilegio de amar a esta persona especial... en forma incondicional, como Él los ama a los dos.
