10@9 What We Pray For This Month - February 21, 2025

This morning we explore Birchat HaChodesh, the blessing for the new Jewish month we say in synagogue this Shabbat. We trace the origins of this practice, and how it binds all Jews in the world to each other and toward Jerusalem. Plus we gain a key insight to prayer with one seemingly extra word in the last line, expressed with a great story about buying smoked salmon at Zabar's in New York.

Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
