Description of Cost of living crisis causing scurvy resurgence
A prominent Sydney GP is warning that he has been treating multiple patients for the historical disease of ‘scurvy’.
Caused by a deficiency in Vitamin C, the disease was commonplace on long maritime voyages in the 18th and 19th century, including the First Fleet, but was long thought to be an ailment condemned to yesteryear.
Luke Grant chats with Campbelltown GP Dr Ken McCroary, about how cost of living pressures have forced patients into taking up poor diets, and subsequently contracting scurvy.
