Description of Exploring Queens Immigrant Roots

I go on runs around Hempstead quite often, it is my way of exploring the area, finding good places to visit and maybe a bite to eat. However even I cannot say I really "know" the area. This is true for many people, regardless of their community. One community in particular has such a diverse and historic culture that it would be near impossible to understand. I am of course referring to Queens, a borough which I am still learning about. Here to talk about an attempt to grant insight to this lesser known borough, we are being joined by Amy Paul, she has worked with South Asian Youth Action, Culture Project, and Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights. She is also a 2011 Coro Immigrant Civic Leadership Project Fellow. She is here to discuss "The People's Walking Tour" an immigration-inspired walking tour through the back streets and working streets of NYC immigrant communities. The walking tour will be a partnership with area CBOs and rooted in the social justice struggles of immigrant communities.
