Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 12th. Now, I hope you’re feeling adventurous, because today is Walk On Your Wild Side Day – the one day of the year where society gives you a little nudge and says, Hey, maybe wear those leopard-print socks. Maybe take a different route to work. Maybe, just maybe, dance like no one’s watching… even though they definitely are. But don’t worry, if unleashing your inner wild child sounds a bit much, it’s also National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day – a day that asks absolutely nothing of you except to melt some cheese between two slices of bread and taste the deliciousness of life.
Now, you might be wondering how walking on the wild side and grilled cheese fit together. Well, they actually make a perfect combo. Because embracing your wild side doesn’t always mean skydiving or quitting your job to raise alpacas. Sometimes it means choosing spicy pepper jack instead of your usual cheddar. Living on the edge, one sandwich at a time.
And that brings me to your quote of the day – this one’s from the ever-witty Mae West, who once said:
"Too much of a good thing can be wonderful."
Think about that as you double up on the cheese or take a bold step outside your comfort zone today. Whether your version of "wild" is dyeing your hair electric blue or simply adding bacon to that grilled cheese – lean into it. Because sometimes, wonderful is just one good thing too many.
We had our holidays mixed up yesterday because my son, Matunder, had a Grilled Cheese cooking competition at school yesterday so I decided to make one for myself too.
First I fried up some sliced mushrooms, then I sautéed some Canadian Back Bacon, toasted some bread and buttered the outsides. I put a hefty amount of Gruyere Cheese with some thinly sliced tomato followed by the Canadian Back Bacon and mushrooms. Then when it was grilled to perfection... well. I ate it.
It was wild!
Matunder didn't win his contest but I'm pretty sure I would have.
That's it for today's episode. Stay bold, stay cheesy, and don’t forget to walk a little on your wild side.
I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today but I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station for another Daily Quote.
