Welcome to Episode 34 of the 1:1 career conversation, this week we are meeting with Steve Moss. Steve is the president of executive springboard, a company focused on accelerating new executives' impact and sustaining it long-term ultimately reducing the risk and cost of failed hires. I chat to Steve about a huge range of topics including pivoting from one industry to another, being in the startup world, learning new industries and his guidance and advice on why executives in companies fail due to a lack of proper onboarding, guidance and coaching. We also chat about his pride in his daughter Jess, I interviewed Jess all the way back in episode 5 about her new book and we chat about that along with how he navigated the corporate world at huge companies. This week we are meeting with Steve Wanczyk. Steve is an executive director at a non-profit dedicated to election integrity along with being the founder of a company called the Dunshire group. We talk about the work Steve is doing to fight for election integrity in the US, key in 2020 and how his career in digital marketing and communications helps support his work today. Steve started out in online merchandising in 2006 then moved into online reputation. Steve moved on to a start-up and quickly progressed through the ranks, seeing the company grow from a small number of employees in a kitchen to hundreds of employees post many mergers and acquisitions. This week we are meeting with Rich Cober.  Rich is an Experienced HR leader specializing in transforming employee experience through talent management strategies, change leadership, and a really, in-depth analytic approach that drives individual and organizational growth. Rich has worked in HR across Construction, travel, big data and we talk about how to switch industries, how to be curious and what drove Rich to start a career in HR. We also talk about HR analytics, how to measure employee satisfaction both in normal times but also in times like today when people are isolated at home and not in the workplace for the most part. We chat through rankings on glassdoor and how Rich uses these to improve satisfaction in the work place but also uses it to drive company performance for the better. We also talk through engagement strategies for the remote workforce alongside how he begins to educate non-hr professionals he works with on the best practices and policies to keep everything aligned. This week we are chatting to Craig Smith.  Craig is Group President, Asia Pacific for Marriott International. He is responsible for the strategic leadership of all operational and development functions spanning 24 countries and territories and  23 brands. He oversees more than 780 open hotels and 135,000 people. Prior to his current position, Craig served two-and-a-half years as President of Marriott’s the Caribbean and Latin American region. Before moving to the Caribbean and Latin American region in 2011, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for the Asia Pacific region. As a son of an American diplomat, Craig has lived in 13 countries, working in North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Australia. In today's conversation we chat about everything from his time in Thailand, leading a team through the tsunami in 2004 to how Craig’s career began in housekeeping 30 years ago.
