In Common

Jen wonders whether having everything in common is a good thing in relationships or whether it is more important to be at a similar point in life's journey. Kirstie appreciates goals, values and kindness in friends, Jen likes those who question and are proactive in creating change,  even befriending such people on social media. Same, different or similar path - what do you look for? 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Your podcast hosts are Kirstie Fitzpatrick (the 20 something) and Jen Seyderhelm (the 40 something). Kirstie and Jen met while working in the media. Initially their catch ups were defined by work roles which required sharing current affairs and news with each other. It didn't take long before they found they were seeking each other out on personal matters - relationships, family, social life, health, work and more. They discovered an abundance in common and the twenty year age gap a bonus rather than hindrance. Kirstie and Jen would love your feedback, thoughts and ideas towards future episodes. Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose Recycle

Jen had just interview Dr Liz Allen who had found the Manolo Blahnik shoes, worn by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City when she married Mr Big, in a local Vinnies for $35! Jen loves op shopping, bus hasn't always felt able to say that proudly. One of Kirstie's 2021 resolutions is to recycle more and better. She talks about repurposing gifts and when she'll buy second hand or reuse. At the end of the episode, Jen repurposes a gift to Kirstie. 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Ask Us Anything!

In this episode Kirstie and Jen answer questions you have put to us - are some bridges best burnt, how to recognise toxic traits in others (and ourselves), body love, are we the protagonists of our own life and how many sugar daddies we deserve to look after us. That last response came out of a question around if social media creates new opportunities. Jen has had some interesting opportunities offered to her! 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Angry

Jen has been feeling internal anger, but as someone who dislikes conflict, she wonders if her repression is a bad thing and, over a long period of time, can affect her relationships. Kirstie has gotten better at speaking up when a matter isn't right, but prefers to phrase her emotions as "getting upset", as she's dealt with violent anger in the past. Both apologise too much and prefer to keep the peace. How do you see your own periods of feeling upset or angry? 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Making a Difference

Can one person make a difference to the world? To another person?  Kirstie and Jen discuss altruism, volunteering and whether their media roles count as a contribution. Pets

Neither Jen or Kirstie can imagine a world without their pets. They also think it terribly unfair that pets don't live as long as their humans. Both have lost pets in traumatic circumstances that they've never forgotten. You never forget your pets; they're family. 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Fun

Fun. Jen savours the fun in her life. Kirstie's not sure what having fun means exactly. They discuss their changing attitudes towards both fun, joy and being funny, how different situations bring out different aspects of themselves and how they both LOVE grocery shopping! Then, the fun really begins with Jen and Kirstie doing an exercise where they have to describe themselves and each other in three words. Conscientious anyone?? What three words would you use to describe yourself? What three words do you think others would use? 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Aging

THIS IS THE FINAL EPISODE OF SEASON 2! But don't fret, they'll be back with more in August :) In this episode Kirstie suggests avid gardening, sunset watching and listening to talk back radio are indicators you are getting old. Jen's definitions are quite different. From grey pubic hairs to actually enjoying getting up early - Kirstie and Jen talk about what they do that makes them feel old and what they see others do. They'd love to know where our listeners agree and vary on aging signs! 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Manspeak 2.0

In this episode Jen and Kirstie have invited their friends Eddie Williams and Brent Ford to join them to discuss how men think, talk and feel. 10 discoveries - 1) Men gossip more that we realise 2) Dating app stats are extraordinary 3) Men worry about what women talk about with other women 4) Brent and Eddie seek out women for advice on personal stuff more than a male friend 5) Sporting analogies work for personal life too 6) Men prefer not to ask questions in classrooms or similar environments 7) Dating via Zoom is a thing 8) They both thought the biggest drama queens they knew were men! 9) Frank honesty rather than niceness created the biggest (and most positive) change and 10) Men overthink too! 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. We are revisiting Season 1 and the topic of manspeak. Next Monday the 15th of June Kirstie and Jen are doing Manspeak 2.0, featuring two of their favourite men and friends, Eddie Williams and Brent Ford. Big questions - does marriage still matter? It does to Kirstie and it's something she wants and thinks about a lot. Does commitment still matter? I Miss You

Part of Jen's COVID-19 experience is a need to reconnect with a couple of people with whom she has 'loose ends'. She's noticed that many of her friends are doing the same. Is this something that is generational as Jen has had more time to have friends and loved ones walk in and out of her life, or is Kirstie experiencing the same thing? 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations. Moving On

Despite the rules and regulations around movements during the current COVID-19 situation, both Kirstie and Jen are moving in and out of places. Work

Kirstie and Jen recorded this work-related podcast the last time they were able to hang out in a studio together. As the Covid-19 situation unfolded they held on to it because it felt strange talking about work when so many people were now in totally different employment situations than a month ago. The point of the podcast though remains. Women don’t tend to discuss their job roles with each other like men do.  So much of Jen's identity is, rightly or wrongly, tied up in her job roles. Is it important to know what our friends and colleagues are doing at work every day? 20/40 is a podcast celebrating conversations and friendship across generations.
