Rapp Report Daily 0438 What is the Conscience? What does it mean to have a conscience? What exactly is the conscience? Well, conscience is a compound word with science or with knowledge. The conscience is a gift from God it is that very thing that tells us right from wrong. It is with someone who might refer to as a moral compass. The conscience is that element within the immaterial part of man that states when we do something wrong we get that sense of guilt. Guilt is actually a good thing. It tells us we are doing something wrong. However, when we sear our conscience, then what we are actually doing is we are convincing our conscience that wrong is right. We should never do that. Because when we see our conscience, we do not know right from wrong. Titus says, “to the pure all things are pure but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure but both their minds and their conscience is defiled.” So we have to be careful with our conscience. We have to take care of our conscience to make sure we do not defile our conscience. Our conscience is a gift that tells us when we are doing wrong. But if we continue to ignore it, then it no longer works properly. And what ends up happening is when we do wrong when it should tell us stop. We do not stop and we do harm to our soul. Rapp Report Daily 0437 What Does it Mean to Have Your Sins Forgiven? What does it mean to have your sins forgiven? Well, we first have to understand what sin is. Sin is when we break God's law and that is punishable by eternal death. “It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment” and when we find that we sit at that judgment God will judge us based on His law. If we broke His law that is what sin is. Sin means to miss the mark. So to be forgiving means that we are forgiven of the crimes that we have committed against God. That means that we deserve rightly an eternity in the lake of fire. Now that might seem harsh. Why do we deserve that? Because God is infinite and therefore when we break His law it has an infinite consequence. That forgiveness can only be paid by an eternal Being because it has an eternal consequence. So God alone can provide the forgiveness of sins. But what did it take? Well, He has to suffer that consequence. So when Jesus Christ went to the cross He suffered an eternal consequence for the sins that I committed. Therefore. I can be forgiven. This is something that only God can do and we see that in Mark chapter 2 when Jesus says to the paralytic man, “your sins are forgiven ” and the Jews are outraged because they realize only God can forgive sins. Forgiveness of sins means to be set free of the consequence. Rapp Report Daily 0436 What Does it Mean to be Born Again? What does it mean to be born again? Now, this is terminology that a lot of times, Christians do not realize they use but to an unbelieving world that did not grow up in a Christian home. We do not understand this. I grew up in a Jewish home, and the first time I heard that we had to be born again, I did not know what that meant. This comes out of John chapter 3, and this is one of the most known verses in all the Bible is John 3:16, but before that, you have in John chapter 3 a man by the name of Nicodemus. Nicodemus is a Pharisee, and he comes to Jesus by night. He probably came by night because he did not want to be seen by the other Pharisees. Nicodemus comes to Jesus asking Him some questions, and Jesus responds to him in verse 3, “truly, truly I say to you unless one is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven.” Nicodemus does not understand this, he asks, “how can a person be born twice?” And Jesus, kind of, reprimands him and says, “truly, truly I say to you unless one is born of water and of spirit he can either enter the kingdom of God that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I say to you, ‘you must be born again'”. So what you see here is born again, actually means born from above. It is that we are born physically, but we also need to be born again spiritually means when God changes us gives us spiritual life. Rapp Report Daily 0435 What is the Difference Between Soul and Spirit? Have you heard the words; dichotomy and trichotomy? Boy do seminary students loved debating this one. The idea of dichotomy is that man is made up of two elements the immaterial and the material, in other words, the immaterial being the spirit and the material being the body and what they will argue is when you see the word soul or spirit, it refers to that immaterial part. Trichotomous are going to argue, we are made up of three parts the soul, the spirit, and the body. There three separate things. And they are going to say that the soul and the spirit are different. So which am I? Well, actually neither. I think that this is a fallacy of the excluded middle because of the way it is worded. If you define dichotomy as material and immaterial. Yes, I agree. If you say that it is that soul and spirit are the same thing. No, I do not agree. So, it all depends on how you define these things. What is the difference between soul and spirit? Well, body always refers to that physical part of man both agreed to that. However, when it comes to soul and spirit, there are some differing views. Now soul and spirit do have different words in Greek. Spirit always refers to the immaterial part of man. So that is always immaterial. Soul sometimes refers to the immaterial and sometimes refers to the body sometimes refers to the whole being. So, I would say soul can refer to the immaterial the material or the whole being. Rapp Report Daily 0434 Are We All Children of God? You hear this often that people will say we are all children of God. Some will try to argue that because we are all children of God, we are all going to heaven. Are we all children of God? Well not according to God we are not. We see in John 1:12-13, it says, “but to all who receive him who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God. Who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of God.” So what you see there is not everybody is called a child of God according to God only those who receive Christ who believe on his name. They are the ones and only they are the ones that have the right to become a child of God. So everyone is not born a child of God, even though we were made in God's image. That does not make us a child of God. And it is not that we are born for our genealogy. That does not make us a child of God. That was what it means when he says not of blood nor of the will of the flesh not by your desire the fact that you are going to work hard at something not of the will of man not by the fact that you just desire to be a child of God. No your genealogy, your works, or your desired. None of those things make you a child of God, but God. It is only God who makes you a child of God. We are start off as his enemies, but God will adopt some of us into His family when we receive Him and believe on his name.
