Ep 10.2 Psychiatrist Dr. John Shuster: Taking Care of Your Mental Health
Episode in
9 Month Drive
Part 2 of Episode 10! The first part we hear testimonies from friends of mine who are writers, actors, musicians, comedians, and have to work on their mental health.
Licensed Psychiatrist (and comedian), Dr John Shuster talks about how common these disorder are in America, for entertainers and “normal” people alike.
He explains the Difference between being depressed and clinical depression, contemplating Suicide, how Depression is on a spectrum.
He talks about your first plan of action, natural ways to treat yourself (don’t suffer alone). He talks about taking care of yourself if you’re prone to these things the same way you would if you had diabetes or cancer. Your health should come first.
He gives his stance on antidepressants and other drugs.
I wanted to do this episode and talk to him because Comedy seems like a breeding ground for these disorders. The same kinds of people who want to do comedy as a way to cope with things are often the same type of people who are prone to addiction and depression.
We also talk about: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Activation, How medication works, How i learned not to mix alcohol and antidepressants, Borderline personality disorder, Dealing with rejection, getting addicted to the high of performing and Why it can be hard to seek help. (for me personally, people think i’m really happy and positive so i feel like i’m exposing something when i ask for help.)
Do you buy into the idea that artists have to be these tortured souls? We discuss this idea. Talking about the real stuff is what heals us, those telling it and those hearing it.

Ep10.1 Entertainers and Depression, Anxiety, Addiction, and Personality Disorders
Episode in
9 Month Drive
Episode 10 is all about mental health and being a creative person. We talk about anxiety, depression, alcoholism, and addiction. I have some friends and acquaintances give me testimonials about their own personal issues that they deal with. They give some information about their history, and tell us how they cope, if they are. We have a writers, comedians, actors, and musicians.
In part two we hear from someone who has an extremely unique perspective on these issues, Dr. John Schuster who is a licensed psychologist as well as a comedian. He listened to the same testimonials that you are about to and then he gives us some great information about what these mental disorders are, how common they are, and ways to live your life while living with disorders. Tons of great information, i learned a lot.
In part three I have a long chat with my buddy Marty Linville on his way to SXSW. He’s a comedian and musician who came back from the brink of death as a heroine addict. He’s not only alive, but better than ever. He taught me so much about what addiction is and what it does to you. This is for anyone who deals with addiction or loves someone who does.
My hope is that this information is just what someone needs to hear to make a positive change in their life. If you want to talk to me or anyone you hear on this podcast, please get in touch with me at paulina.combow@gmail.com

Ep 9 Welcome to Affordable Las Vegas: Tips from a Former High Stakes Poker Dealer on How to be a Baller on a Budget
When I found out one of my best friends was getting married in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve, I didn’t want my budget to stop me from celebrating with her.
I got lots of insider tips from Michael Boegh, a former Las Vegas resident and and poker dealer. He’s someone who used to get paid in poker chips and didn’t wear jeans for five years so he has stories to tell.
I’ve compiled a list of tips for staying in Las Vegas in style while saving money. You’ll have a blast, but won’t be in debt when you return.

Ep6: Why Investing in Yourself is Better than the Stock Market (part 1)
Episode in
9 Month Drive
We’ve always been told to invest in our futures, save money, build your wealth! But I propose we can do all this by investing in ourselves.
I talk to Chris Martenson and Adam Taggart, authors of PROSPER!: How To Prepare for the Future and Create a
World Worth Inheriting
Chris Martenson, PhD (Duke), MBA (Cornell) is an economic researcher and futurist specializing in energy and resource depletion, and co-founder of PeakProsperity.com (along with Adam Taggart). As one of the early econobloggers who forecasted the housing market collapse and stock market correction years in advance, Chris rose to prominence with the launch of his seminal video seminar: The Crash Course which has also been published in book form (Wiley, March 2011). It’s a popular and extremely well-regarded distillation of the interconnected forces in the Economy, Energy and the Environment (the “Three Es” as Chris calls them) that are shaping the future, one that will be defined by increasing challenges to growth as we have known it. In addition to the analysis and commentary he writes for his site PeakProsperity.com, Chris’ insights are in high demand by the media as well as academic, civic and private organizations around the world, including institutions such as the UN, the UK House of Commons and US State Legislatures.
Here are links to Chris’ recent appearances in the media: http://www.peakprosperity.com/page/chris-martenson-media
Adam is the President and Co-Founder of Peak Prosperity. He wears many hats, but his basic job is to handle the business side of things so that his fellow co-founder, Chris Martenson, is free to think and write.
Adam Taggart is an experienced Silicon Valley internet executive and Stanford MBA. Prior to partnering with Chris (Adam was General Manager of our earlier site, ChrisMartenson.com), he was a Vice President at Yahoo!, a company he served for nine years. Before that, he did the ’startup thing’ (mySimon.com, sold to CNET in 2001). As a fresh-faced graduate from Brown University in the early 1990s, Adam got a first-hand look at all that was broken with Wall Street as an investment banking analyst for Merrill Lynch.
Most importantly, he’s a devoted husband and dad.
Seriously, check out www.peakprosperity.com They have some great info and videos.

Ep1 - How I’m Going on the Road as a Full-time Comedian in an RV in Just 9 Months (What am I doing?)
Episode in
9 Month Drive
Welcome to the first episode of 9 Month Drive! Please excuse the low volume, you may need to turn this up to hear it. I fixed the audio issues in the other episodes.
In this first episode, I explain my plans of attempting to pay off my debt, sell all my stuff, and move into an RV to travel the country doing comedy. I talked to my mom, Nancy, and my boyfriend of 10 years, Zach. They’re both very “practical” people and they have some good questions and advice about how I’ll survive this. I think they will try to talk me out of it, and I’ll have to defend my decision, but I’m surprised at how supportive they are.
