African Tech Weekly - August 5th 2012

In this edition of the African Tech Weekly, we will feature: Agana Agana-Nsiire and Jojoo Imbeah of the Ghana GTUG. Agana is a software developer and publisher of myitghana.com, a Ghana – centric technology blog.He got involved in Ghana’s technology scene about four years ago as a budding web developer. Since then, he has undertaken projects in many different programming languages. In his spare time he loves bird watching and reading on Economics. Gameli Adzaho, is a Keta, Ghana based science teacher, tech enthusiast and blogger. He pursues the general objective of deploying science and technology as development tools in Africa through teaching, research, volunteering and blogging. He is passionate about social innovation and has directed his energies towards the success of initiatives such as BarCamps, Python African Tour, TEDxYouthInspire and digital literacy trainings.Through blogging, participation in public fora and delivering presentations, Gameli ardently promotes the adoption of ICTs in rural communities in Ghana. He is currently working on a idea which in August will initiate the pilot phase of a bigger project to train teachers nationwide to use digital tools to improve classroom performance. The team behind this is a group of three Ghanaian social innovators collaborating with an Austrian NGO. ICT4D.at. which involvement with the project is described here. . African Tech Weekly - July 29th 2012

In this last July edition of the African Tech Weekly, we will be speaking with T. Lamine Ba, co-founder of the West African Java User Group SeneJUG. He has many years of IT experience, focused primarily on network simulation engineering and online transaction based solutions. He has created various innovative web applications such as www.opmw.com, which is a private blog designed for corporations, and www.buildtrees.com, a 3D family tree builder. His later venture, www.fullself.com, is an online payment system designed for international transactions. He was also a Senior System Engineer for Meshnetworks, Inc., where he led a team responsible for creating complex mathematical simulation models. Meshnetworks, Inc was later acquired by Motorola Inc. Furthermore, T. Lamine Ba participated in the business development of several global corporations invested in VSAT technologies and adHoc mesh networking solutions. He received his Bachelor of Science with a Minor in Mathematics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and his Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. African Tech Weekly - July 8th 2012

In show #2 of the African Tech Weekly, we've got some exciting guest and news. Check this out: First, we'll interview Max Bonbhel, a software developer and consultant at Fujitsu Canada (located in Quebec city, Canada) with strong expertise with Java and JEE (Java Enterprise Edition). He is the founder of Congo Java User Group and president of JUG-AFRICA, an umbrella Java User Group (JUG) for the entire continent of Africa that individual JUGs can affiliate with.Very involved in the Java Community, he has been leading the expansion of the Java User Groups movement in Africa with enthusiasm. He is also the founder of Congo JUG (http://www.congojug.com), the first JUG in Congo. Max will open up to us about JUG-Africa, its role, mission and accomplishments and also the development scene in Congo Brazzaville. We will also feature another Coders4Africa co-founder, Kwame Andah from Ghana who will enlighten us on his role in C4A where he serves as operations liaison between technical and non-technical teams with individuals within the United States and abroad. Kwame has over 10 years of experience working in the higher education software industry as a Technical/Systems Analyst and Project Manager, Kwame possess strong interpersonal communication, negotiation and project management skills. In his spare time, he explores the outdoors with his 8 year old son Nile, and is an avid listener of Ghanaian high-life and hip-life music. Last but not least, we will talk with the founder of Benin-based Etrilabs, Senam Beheton. Senam draws on a diverse combination of expertise and experiences. Prior to e-TRI, Senam served as a high school teacher, project director, language instructor, and educational technology researcher/consultant. Senam has a gift for understanding the challenges related to education, ICT and professional development in developing countries. He speaks English, French and Spanish fluently. EtriLabs is a project of Educational Technology and Research International (e-TRI), a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization dedicated to the use of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). EtriLabs helps African developers, social entrepreneurs, non- governmental organizations, businesses and governments create and/or use innovative technology solutions. They offer hub services include Co-working, Start-up Incubation, Training, Social Media, Applications Development and Instructional Technologies. Welcome back to another edition of the African Tech Weekly. This week's show will be focused on the local chapter leaders of Coders4Africa, as well as Coder4Africa's current campaign on StartSomeGood: From Sept - Dec 2012, following a 'real life project training model', 30 African coders will create 5 mobile and web solutions that will impact their communities. Unlike traditional software training practices which focus just on specific technologies and development patterns, ours keeps the African context in mind with an approach that treats every trainee as a potential employee and/or entrepreneur. We will talk with Amadou's Daffe about this social campaign and its goal and discuss its direct impact with the Coders4Africa members on the ground.
