“Who you are is actually a declaration.” Denise is someone with a Big Idea. She lived for years with this idea locked away and unexpressed, until she couldn’t take it any more. It was time for her to speak, to take this Big Idea out into the world, and to face the one thing that had been stopping her all along: Herself. Denise had to shift and grow to be able to step into the big shoes she has set before her. Her Big IDEA? A movement she created called Project Ñ with the slogan: “Two worlds, one voice”. (You can see why I love her!) So what is an “ñ”? An “ñ” is a first-generation American-born Latino who has at least one parent from a Spanish-speaking country. Although each individual person’s details vary, every story reveals commonalities about the shared ñ experience in America that collectively defines this generation. Denise quickly discovered that she wasn’t alone in her experience of feeling caught between two worlds with a big responsibility. What to hold on to… and what to let go. How to create… and what to reinvent. The struggles, responsibilities, and privileges of both of her identities led her to step into a new mission: to heal a generation of people with a shared experience. This is how Project Ñ was born. Damcho Dyson is a woman who flows with duality. She was an artist, a baby spiritualist, Buddhist and Christian, and became interested in how mystics transform suffering and become closer to God. With a sudden feeling that she wanted to become a nun, she erased 1200 of her drawings in a live installation and left her world behind to go to Tibet and take on the monastic life for 10 years. And now? Well… she’s a latex fetish queen. The common threads that tie these surprising paths together? A deeply contemplative nature, a love of ritual and it’s connection to identity, and a yearning toward transcendence and the divine. This episode is a candid, humorous, and contemplative look at the importance and power of taboo, the potential of the human heart and mind, finding ones limits, and exploding them.
