Episode 10 “The Verdict” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
After 10 hours of incredible television and only 4 hours of jury deliberation, the verdict is finally in. With humor, charisma and intelligence, Ryan Murphy skillfully wove all the remaining threads together, and he did it in a way that not only paid homage to the real life players involved, but honored the tragedy that claimed the lives of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown.
Join the American Crime Story Podcasters as we discuss the implications of the not guilty verdict, share our thoughts on the show’s final moments with Johnnie, Marcia and Chris, and talk about the “sad and free” reality that awaited OJ Simpson once he was back in Brentwood.
AND make sure to listen until the end of the episode, when we share our last listener voicemail of the season along with an exciting announcement about what show we will review next!

Episode 9 “Manna From Heaven” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
In the penultimate episode of American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson, viewers watched as the final nail was pounded into the Prosecution’s coffin, in the form of the Mark Fuhrman tapes. The rift forming between Marcia Clark and Chris Darden widened throughout this episode until Darden took an impulsive stand, and Marcia stood in his defense. Meanwhile, Cochran used the inflammatory nature of the Fuhrman tapes to shine a spotlight on the institutionalized racism that set fire to the city of Los Angeles just three years prior.
Join the American Crime Story Podcasters as they try to make sense of the auditory filth that is the Mark Fuhrman tapes, discuss the reconciliation of Chris and Marcia, and express their delight in watching Johnnie Cochran turn his focus from the OJ Simpson case to fighting against civil and social injustice on a grand scale.

Episode 8: “A Jury in Jail” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
The eighth installment of The People vs. OJ Simpson shows viewers that, despite being involved in one of the most captivating and polarizing events ever, many of our key characters were completely isolated. The titular jury was subjected to the longest sequestration in American history (265 days), prompting them to stage a silent revolt. At the start of the trial, many of OJ’s long-time friends came to visit him in jail, but as more and more evidence was presented against him, fewer and fewer visitors came to show their support. And perhaps most saddening, is Robert Kardashian’s inability to reconcile the overwhelming DNA evidence with his faith in his longtime friend. As Robert becomes increasingly convinced of OJ’s guilt he finds himself increasingly isolated, until he finally admits his feelings of doubt in a tearful confession to Kris Jenner.
This week, the American Crime Story podcasters talk about Mr. Fung’s bizarre courtroom handshake fest, Marcia’s multiple hilarious one-liners against Johnnie Cochran, and what 1 movie, book and album they would take on an 8 month jury sequestration.

Episode 7: “Conspiracy Theories” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
True to its title, Episode 7 of American Crime Story revolves around the various conspiracy theories surrounding the trial of the century. Whether it be Robert Kardashian and the garment bag or Mark Fuhrman and the LAPD, show runner Ryan Murphy gives a not-so-subtle nod to the viewers who believe in, or at least still consider, the possibility of an alternative narrative.
This week, the American Crime Story Podcasters talk about some of their favorite conspiracy theories, lament the slow motion car wreck that is the Prosecution’s strategy, and shed some light on OJ’s half-hearted attempt to put on those gloves.

Episode 6: “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
Episode six of American Crime Story was a master class in how to take relentless punishment, and keep pushing forward. Marcia Clark, beautifully portrayed by Sarah Paulson, was repeatedly disrespected as a wife, a mother and as a human being, but continued towards her goal with the determination of a championship boxer in the 11th round.
This week, the American Crime Story Podcasters talk about the numerous trials (pun intended) that Marcia endures, Johnnie Cochran’s ethically deplorable behavior, and whether or not Chris Darden’s last line in the episode was just a tad bit creepy.
The listener feedback was AWESOME this week! Keep those tweets, comments and emails coming!

Episode 5: “The Race Card” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
We’re halfway through the first season, and loving every minute of it!
This midpoint installment of American Crime Story centers around Christopher Darden as he walks a tightrope between the unstoppable force of Johnnie Cochran and the immovable object that is Marcia Clark. Straining under the weight of media scrutiny and likely some self-doubt, Darden understandably questions Marcia about his role in the Prosecution, and the answer he gets is less than reassuring.
Join the American Crime Story Podcasters, as they debate whether or not Johnnie Cochran is a scumbag, express their sympathies for Christopher Darden, and reveal the truth about Bill Hodgman’s courtroom heart attack.

Episode 4: 100% Not Guilty REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
This week’s terrific episode of American Crime Story showed the Prosecution and Defense preparing for, and going through, the jury selection process. But on a deeper level, this episode was about pride: Marcia’s pride in her ability to connect with an African American jury, Robert Shapiro’s pride in being the “lead” attorney for the defense, and OJ Simpson losing all pride in himself until Johnnie Cochran helped him find it again.
In this week’s podcast, the American Crime Story Podcasters talk about the powerful force that is Johnnie Cochran, Ron Goldman being a “footnote” in the trial of the century, and the coup that left Robert Shapiro speechless in his Hawaiian shirt.

Episode 3: “The Dream Team” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
American Crime Story came roaring back this week with another must-see entry in the hit drama. Episode 3, “The Dream Team” followed two primary storylines: the Prosecution and the Defense.
On one side, we watched Robert Shapiro as he worked to assemble both the titular team of lawyers that would come to the defense of OJ Simpson, and the racially charged argument that would act as ammunition in the courtroom battle to come.
On the other side, we saw Marcia Clarke as she went from confident in her ability to levy swift justice against Simpson, to concerned at the overwhelming power of public opinion and the news media machine.
This week, the American Crime Story Podcasters talk about the double standard often applied to powerful women in the public eye, the ethics (or lack thereof) of a defense attorney that will stop at nothing to reach a “not guilty” verdict, and the true motivation behind Johnnie Cochran’s actions.

Episode 2: “The Run of His Life” REVIEW
Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
Join Lee, Lacey and Caleb as we review and discuss Episode Two of American Crime Story, entitled, “The Run of His Life.”
Some of us enjoyed the episode more than others, but we all agree on two things: Cuba Gooding Jr. is a very skilled actor, and the Kardashian family chant was disturbing.
In this episode, we talk about the way the show portrays the relationship between Robert Kardashian and OJ Simpson, the tension between the LAPD and the citizens of Los Angeles, and whether OJ’s apparent sorrow is genuine regret or masterful manipulation.

Episode in
American Crime Story Podcast
Our first podcast episode is here!
Join Lee, Lacey and Caleb as they review and discuss the first episode of FX’s new hit drama, American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson.
With Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee) at the helm, The People vs. OJ Simpson pulls no punches as it chronicles the “trial of the century” that gave birth to reality television, all the while reminding the viewer of the racial tension that permeated the United States in the wake of the Rodney King beating. The superb performances of Cuba Gooding Jr., Sarah Paulson and Courtney B. Vance are are sure to draw the attention of critics and fans alike, but it’s the shows timely critique of racial inequality in America that will make this a must-see for viewers young and old.
This week, we share our thoughts on the premiere episode, confess how little we knew about the OJ Simpson trial prior to this show, and discuss some show-related news items and speculation.
