Released Into the Wild: Part I

We all have things that we don't want to be exposed. These things cause us to feel stuck and ashamed, but if we reach for Jesus we are guaranteed to find healing and peace! This week, associate college pastor Jady Griffin teaches us how to buck the stuck in this message about the power of confession.

Often we look to the Bible for a sweet verse to uplift someone or fix a situation, but instead, searching for Jesus should be our goal when we read the Bible. College pastor Carl Gulley affectionately called this message "The Message with Zero Practicals" because he wanted it to be filled with scripture and inspire students to fall more in love with the Word. The excerpts he read from different Bible stories all led to one big story that makes all the difference in our lives: the story of our rescuer, Jesus Christ.

Maybe our problems aren't the problem. Maybe our perspective of our problems is the problem. Jady Griffin takes a dive into the life of Elisha to a moment when a little perspective changed everything. God wants to change our perspective; He wants to open our eyes to see His hand working in all things. There is no problem too big for God, we must only learn to see with His perspective. It changes everything.

In part four of the Appetite Series, all the pieces start coming together. What do we do with the hunger we have for God? What do all the spiritual disciplines lead us towards? When we love and follow Christ, we find ourselves loving His cause. He came to redeem mankind and invites us to join in on His work of redeeming the lost of the world.

Often when we hear the word repentance, we cringe. Instead, God wants repentance to remind us of the hope we have because of His forgiveness. Repentance is a gift that lets us live a free life not spiritually defeated by sin!

What do we do when we find ourselves asking the question "How did I get here? How did my life become this?" Nehemiah found himself in a similar situation. Their sense of self was stripped from them and they had to rebuild. Our lives are protected in these times by the walls we build around ourselves through the spiritual disciplines. These walls protect the most important thing in our lives, our hunger for God.

We are being invited to the greater depths with Jesus Christ . . Will you accept?

Our culture tells us that overnight success is not only possible, but is the ideal mark to leave on society. Jesus tells us that people like David are the ultimate success story: not only is David’s journal on display in Psalms, David’s character was shaped in the hidden “yes’s” that he told God in the secret place. Our lives are shaped by what is unseen; the decisions we make when no one is watching build our character and give us the tools we need to fulfill God’s call on our lives. In Jady Griffin’s last message of the SHAPE series, he guides us in discovering the spirit of God that is in us in power, and the amazing story of David’s unseen behaviors that shaped his seen victories.
