Behind this hit series are writers and producers Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Dawnson's Creek), Marc Guggenheim (Green Lantern, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), and Andrew Kreisberg (The Vampire Diaries). Arrow is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, a costumed crime-fighter created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp. The series follows billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, portrayed by Stephen Amell, who, after five years of being stranded on a hostile island, returns home to fight crime and corruption as a secret vigilante whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrow. The series stars Katie Cassidy (A Nightmare on Elm Street) as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey (Blue Bloods) as John Diggle, Willa Holland (The O.C.) as Thea Queen, Paul Blackthorne (24) as Quentin Lance, Emily Bett Rickards (Brooklyn) as Felicity Smoak , Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf) as Roy Harper, and John Barrowman (Torchwood) as Malcolm Merlyn. During Season 2 of Arrow, CW introduced DC Comic Superhero Barry Allen on the show before launching its own stand-alone series, The Flash, played by Grant Gustin (Glee). Throughout the last few seasons, audiences have seen popular DC Comic super villains and superheroes come to life including: Deathstroke (Manu Bennett), Deadshot (Michael Rowe), China White (Kelly Hu), The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw), Black Canary (Caity Lotz), and Merlyn (John Barrowman). Arrow and The Flash will feature multiple crossover episodes connecting the DC Television Universe on the CW. More DC superheroes are coming to television thanks to Warner Bros. Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) and Ali Adler ( Chuck, No Ordinary Family), who are executive producing the new DC TV Universe series, Supergirl. Smith (Night World Series), The Vampire Diaries debuted on CW, September 2009, and focuses on Mystic Falls, Virginia, a fictional small town haunted by supernatural beings. The main protagonist of the series, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), is a young human girl who's family is one of the founding families of Mystic Falls and who falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). She begins to be drawn into the supernatural world as a result of their relationship. As the series progresses, Elena finds herself drawn to Stefan's brother, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), resulting in a love triangle spanning throughout seasons. The series was so successful that a spin-off series, The Originals, debuted in 2013. The Originals follows the lives of a family of vampires: Niklaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt). Both shows have been linked to each other, and Nina Dobrev, star of the TVD, has made multiple cameos on The Originals. The Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev (Degrassi) as Elena Gilbert, Paul Wesley (Everwood) as Stefan Salvatore, Ian Somerhalder (Lost) as Damon Salvatore, Steven R. Trai Byers as Andre Lyon, is the eldest son of the Lyon family and CFO of Empire Entertainment. He is Wharton educated, power hungry, bi-polar and married to his white college sweetheart, Rhonda. Jussie Smollett plays Jamal Lyon, the middle son and black sheep of the Lyon family, a talented, gay singer-songwriter who despises the corporate aspect of the music industry and is estranged from his homophobic father. Bryshere Y. Gray is Hakeem Lyon, the fame-obsessed youngest son and Lucious' favorite child, who is a hip hop star on the rise. Grace Gealey is Anika Calhoun, head of Empire Entertainment A and R and Lucious' fiancé who Cookie refers to as Kitty Boo Boo. Naomi Campbell, Macy Gray, Courtney Love, Tasha Smith, Judd Nelson, Ta’Rhonda Jones and Gabourey Sidibe round out the cast. Music for the show is handled by Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley. Known for scoring hits with some of pops biggest artists including Madonna, Brandy and Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Aaliyah. Timbaland takes his cue from the writing team who gives him an idea of where the plot is headed, and crafts songs to fit those themes.
