The Art Pro Podcast is a weekly show for artists who want to make art, make a living and make a name for themselves. Every week I interview an artist or other art world insider about the practical behind the scenes aspects of becoming a successful artist. I don't think every artist should have to figure everything out from scratch, so this show is a place to learn from the life experience of fellow artists.

Ep.021 Catherine Orer - 2017-02-28 11.48 PM

Today we are lucky to have Catherine Orer on the podcast. She is business and PR specialist focusing on artists and art business owners. She's a fellow Canadian living and working in Quebec. After studying marketing and working in the corporate world Catherine turned her talents in a more creative and interesting direction by studying the business of art at Christies in Paris, and then back in Canada, working for galleries, international art fairs and eventually opening her current business the Artist Entrepreneur to help artists directly. She's not an artist herself but she brings the best of her pragmatic business mindset and marketing expertise to help artists improve and grow their businesses. And today she's sharing some seriously important insights with us! I think this may be one of the best episodes yet. We talk about some important mindset issues and we get into some really practical advice you can use to start and grow your own business as an artist. She also extended some great free bonus offers for podcast listeners such as yourself so click through to the show notes page to check those out! http://www.artpropodcast.com/ep-019-catherine-orer/     00000112 00000112 00002112 00002112 0000CC49 0000CC49 00008094 00008094 00003A43 00003A43

Ep.017 Christina Empedocles and Mati Rose McDonough Part 2

Todays episode is the second half of a long interview all about personal finance for artists. I'm talking to Mati Rose McDonough and Christina Empedocles, creators of Money Bootcamp for Artists and Creatives about why personal finance for artists is so important and how to get a handle on your own financial situation. Mati and Christina are both artists. On top of that Mati's artist business involves teaching online art classes, a creative business class and running artist retreats. Christina is well on her way to becoming a certified financial planner and channeled her interest in business and personal finance for artists into her blog/business Sm-artly. I think this is such an important topic because a solid financial foundation is a huge advantage for those of us who want to become self employed doing what we love. As a big personal finance nerd myself, we had A LOT to talk about and I had to split this interview up! This is part 2 so make sure to listen to part 1 (Ep.016) first!  http://www.artpropodcast.com/mati-and-christina/

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Art Education

I wanted to talk to you about how to get the most out of your art education whether thats art school or some alternative form of self education (which I'm super in favour of!). I talk about exactly what you should make sure to learn and do during your art education. Hind sight is 20/20 so I drew on my own mistakes back in art school as well as suggestions from other artists about what they are glad they did or wish they had done. Ep.012 Alex Beriault on Working in Performance and Installation Art

Today i’m interviewing Alex Beriault who is a performance and installation artist. I was really keen to interview her because I can only imagine that an art practice centered on performance and installation art would be one of the most difficult to maintain. After all it may be the least commercial form of art. I was lucky that Alex actually lives nearby so we were able to meet up in person. She shared her great tip for finding places to show her art and other opportunities. And I got to ask her about her creative process, how she funds her art practice, and how she lives on an extremely variable income. http://www.artpropodcast.com/ep-012-alex-bariault/   0000016B 0000016B 00008642 00008642 00384CDB 00384CDB 00007A7C 00007A7C 0029D873 0029D873

In this interview I ask her how and why she moved to a country she’d never even been to in order to work full time on art.
