Sarah Liu is the founder and director of The Dream Collective and Little Girl Big Dream which are Australia’s leading networks connecting and developing young professional women. In 2017, Sarah published her second book “The World We See – Leadership Lessons from Australia’s Iconic Change Makers” which is a collection of short stories and inspirational advice from 33 CEOs and senior managers. Sarah said the book was a consolidation of wisdom gathered during the Dream Collective operations. “Our philosophy and all that we do is to empower and equip young professional women for career success. Over the years we’ve partnered up with different organisations and business leaders for either our mentoring program or networking events to share their leadership experiences and insights."   The World We See has an unprecedented stellar line-up of contributors – from Australia’s Prime Minister to some of the nation’s most influential leaders across both private and public sectors. Sarah said that the individuals in the book were not often seen together, had different backgrounds, expertise but the reoccurring theme from their advice was: Teach people how to treat you The standard you walk past is the standard you accept Be clear on how you want to be treated and then demand the respect you deserve

The Big Fat Myths of Weight Loss “The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it.” ? Neil deGrasse Tyson. You can’t argue with the scientific facts presented in Ruben Meerman’s new book Big Fat Myths. In this podcast Ruben busts the myths of diet and weight loss with Deborah and presents the simple truth on using science to achieve your ideal body balance. As a basis for his study, Ruben poses the question – when you lose weight, where does the fat go? “Most people think it turns into energy. Impossible! The correct answer is that 84% of a fat molecule’s mass becomes carbon dioxide and the rest becomes crystal clear water. This book blasts weight loss myths out of the water and restores faith in that age-old refrain to simply eat less and move more.” When faced with the prospect of a new year’s resolution to lose some weight, this well-known physicist turned to science to provide the answers on how to shed the kilos. An avid surfer and native Netherlander, Ruben had noticed that by 43 he had gained a few unwanted kilos. Building on the “atoms in and atoms out” theory, the surfing scientist began carefully studying what he was eating and increased his daily exercise and energy output with walks. And as predicted, he lost weight! So it seems simple and uncomplicated – so why is there a major obesity issue? Through his new book Big Fat Myths, Ruben breaks down the fat issue and applies scientific principles to weight loss.

How to create the ideal relationship Popular Balance life coach, author and speaker Dr Dain Heer chats with Deborah to discuss the mind-body connection, the impact of emotions on our physical health and the importance of putting yourself first. He also gives Deb a personal counselling session about relationships! Dain prescribes practical solutions on how to create real change in your life, restore balance and embrace your true greatness. Originally trained as a chiropractor Dr Dain Heer has a completely different approach to healing by facilitating people to tap into and recognise their own abilities and knowing. In this interview, Deborah and Dain focus on how negative thoughts and emotions can present as physical aches and pains. They discuss how many physical ailments, such as a sore neck may not be a result of having damaged that particular muscle. “In actuality, it’s our thoughts, our feelings and our emotions that create how our body shows up,” said Dain. Dain encourages us to try and determine the “root cause” of our sickness or pain. Once identified, Dain believes that we can “destroy and uncreate it, meaning we let it go.” “If you can start to recognise there are correlations, not to everything, but to a lot of things, you can get to the cause and undo it,” said Dain. Dain gives further insight into the mind-body connection and provides advice on how to clarify and process the root issues that may be causing physical pain. About Dr. Dain Heer Dr Dain Heer is an internationally renowned author, speaker and facilitator of consciousness, and change and for the last 14 years has been inviting people to embrace their true greatness. His book, Being You, Changing the World – Is Now the Time? is published in seven languages. Dain offers his life coaching course online at learn.balancebydeborahhutton.com.au

Affordable housing solutions here and around the world As Australia sees the rise of homelessness and issues surrounding affordable housing, Deborah Hutton invites full-time property investor, consultant and real estate advisor Ian Ugarte. As housing affordability continues to be an issue for many Australians, Ian urges us to rethink the Great Australian Dream of the four bedroom, 246sqm home and consider smaller housing and multi-generational living as an option for the future. One man, five women... One bathroom? Ian Ugarte and his family are proof that a large family can live happily in a “small” space. To live congruently with his small housing projects, Ian, his wife Christine and their four daughters moved from a four-story, 400sqm home into a two-bedroom, one-bathroom 72sqm property. From a previous interview on Balance, Ian states: “What happened in the first couple of weeks, I noticed our interactions had changed. We started to talk to each other, we started to argue more but we had to sort it out because we had to cross paths,” said Ian. Deb asks Ian how he deals with sharing a small space, and one bathroom with five women and if he ever “wins”? “I think the answer to that is that you don’t win. The answer to that is that everyone can win as long as you know where you stand,” said Ian.   Read full article here: Why we need a new Great Australian Dream Related stories: Affordable Housing: Why your family can live happily in 85sqm. From home based business to corporate success: Erica Stewart's story Since launching hardtofind in 2008, Australian entrepreneur Erica Stewart has taken a revolutionary retail concept and turneric ed it into a multi-million dollar business announcing a turnover of $15 million in 2016, and an expected $20 million in 2017. (Source: https://womenlovetech.com/erica-stewart-hardtofind-shares-secrets-success/) Celebrating the success of HardToFind Looking at the phenomenal growth of hardtofind, Deborah asks the entrepreneur, founder and CEO Erica Stewart if she takes the time to celebrate her success. "I don't think we do that enough," says Erica. "The business is growing, so by the time I got to the goal I'd set, however long ago, I've got another goal ahead of me." "The goalposts always move [...] I'm really forcing myself to celebrate those wins along the way and ensure that the team are as well." Deborah and Erica agree that celebrating success is good for morale and can give team members the impetuous to move forward. Hiring her first employee For any business, growth and success mean change. In Erica Stewart's case, the growth and success of hardtofind in the early years meant she needed to move out of the tiny home office/kids' playroom and hire her first employee. These two massive changes were ultimately exciting for Erica despite the realisation she "was now responsible for somebody else's livelihood. "I think it really changed things for the better in terms of my mindset and then where the business started to go," she recalls. "It was terrific being able to offload a lot of the more admin-type tasks that I was doing because at that time, I did everything." Erica moved from the playroom to share an office space with two creative professionals.  As the business surged forward, Erica’s team outgrew the office space and moved into another shared office within the same building. Continued success meant more staff for Erica, prompting another move within the building. Erica now has 30 employees in her own dedicated office space in Sydney’s inner west.   Read full article here: From home based business to corporate success: Erica Stewart's story Related stories: Erica Stewart's recipe for balance.
