The Stoic, the Psychologist, and the Warrior; three views on raising strong children. I was thinking about three people who I read and listen to, and I noticed a through line in all of their thoughts on parenting and life, and as a better person you can be a better parent. A common thread over and over again. Responsibility isn't punishment, it's a path to peace. As a real life human parent, this mission is not clear or easy, but its an aim. Be Healthy Yall

Chief Master Sergeant Daniel L. Hoglund served in the United States Air Force for 30 years, beginning his career in 1994 as a Tactical Ground Radio Operator and advancing to key leadership positions, including Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base and Commandant of the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy, with extensive experience in tactical operations, multiple combat deployments across operations such as Iraqi Freedom and Inherent Resolve, and qualifications as a master-rated enlisted aircrew member on aircraft like the EC-130H and MC-12W. As a retired veteran residing in Nueva Gorgona, Panama, he plays an important role in the local community by engaging with fellow expats and veterans, drawing on his background in morale, welfare, and professional development to support community initiatives and foster interpersonal connections in this coastal expat enclave. Dan is a great friend due to his demonstrated commitment to good order, discipline, and genuine care for others, qualities honed through decades of military service that make him a reliable and supportive presence in personal relationships. Episode 132, Dichotomy of Leadership Today we read through a small portion of the lessons learned from this book and the optional workbook it can be paired with. We recapped a bit of our activities since being on hiatus for awhile. ;-) Always good to sit and speak with this growing kid, who I'm happy to share what I'm currently learning and share what I can. WHO would have thought we'd make it all the way to now be thinking about careers and life after leaving the nest already? Crazy for me, exciting for Diego. Forward thinking will get anyone ahead, and I'm proud he isn't waiting around. We discuss some details about working in the trades, college, and funding a racing hobby as an adult. Then we skim over Secure Hashgraph Algorithm 256 created in the 1990s, a paper in 1995, and a patent on it in 2001. SHA-256 is the backbone of the BTC network. It was a first. Today we go over the lyrics from the song "That is not a Wizard" by Aesop Rock. We somehow lost Diego's mic at the end, but he had some great insight from the lyrics. The song addresses the world in 2021 from the eye's of an American hip-hop artist in New York, but as always, he delivers prime, obtuse breakdowns of the strangeness we all encountered. Today I sat with Michael Castillo, my mother's brother, aka Uncle Mike, here in El Paso, Texas. He was a turboprop mechanic for the C-130 large cargo planes during his time in the Air Force, and went on to other avenues afterwards but always maintained a high level of attention to detail and he and my aunt stood strong for many of us in the family over the years. ----------------- When I was 12 he and my Aunt Sandy allowed me to live with them in Anchorage, Alaska for my 6th grade year of school. It was an incredible experience that they and my Mom allowed me to have, and has since given me the courage to explore and seek out new places and experiences ever since. I'm thankful to have such loving family that I can grow closer to now as an adult. ----------------- Take care and Be Healthy Yall

Today we spoke with one of our new dear friends, who was kind enough to share time with us today as our first guest in Panama. Andrea is from Bolzano, Italy, and lived there most of his life before embarking on a journey to this new country a few years ago. He and his family braved the unforeseen change ahead and have found new strength and meaning in their lives. We appreciate making such a meaningful friendship with our families, and his wealth of knowledge goes deep into the physical, mental, existential, and beyond. His more than 24 year career as an Osteopath led him to find even more ways to heal with a holistic approach as opposed to a compartmentalized one, and therefore created his own path to work with others.  Below are his links and also I am adding the new found ways I use to now learn from our many friends suggestions and information that is in many languages, and these tools help me just like Google Translate does all the time. The book which was also made into a movie is, The Art of Racing in the Rain. A great story, and as a dog lover and go-kart driver, this one was a quick read for Diego. He got to read about struggles over problems, big ones that took time to recover from. All of us will endure some hurdles both big and small, but by keeping our aim focused, we can come out of the other side. We briefly touch on Arnold's book, which I'll probably come back to in future episodes once entire book is finished. Today we have settled back into home, now being the dry season in Panamá. More wind which is definitely welcome, if this is our new winter I'm happy. ----- We dove a bit into the book Big History by David Christian, who has it as a Great Course HERE. Barely into the first lectures as we skimmed through was good enough to attempt at reaching at the gravity of our unimaginably short time frames here as humans in our present form, in our current ways of being societies. At last, we're back and can begin to share what living at an Expat is like so far. There is always more details, and we did record one with both kids that didn't make it, but here we are. Embarking on the next chapter of life, by the time this podcast is available I'll be on a plane with our two dogs headed to Panama City, Panamá where I'll meet up with my family to live some life in Latin America as we have always wanted to do. I expect obstacles and hurdles, but also expect fun and new found freedom. Its been a very busy 8 months leading up to this day, and it already feels entirely worth it, as its challenged and tested our ability to focus and work together for what we value most......time.
