Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

How can I get wiser as time goes on? s30e149 Psalm90b

Getting a heart of wisdom requires some MATH.  We are to number our days. ( I have 1648 days left, according to Psalm 90) Doing so affords us something precious: a soul that has the skill, aptitudes and ability to apply knowledge. Lots of things fade as the years go forward, wisdom is not supposed to be one of them. The AWARENESS of the days will increase the VALUE of those days. Start with the next 7 minutes by clicking here.

I’m better than…(Jeffrey Dahmer or Hitler) s30e147 Ps 53

Oh, if we could just make it to heaven by comparison. One of the great offenses of the gospel is that none of us is "good enough". We all fall short. The Bible notes that everybody, even our own beloved mothers, don't earn heaven by being "good enough."  So is God thwarted in His desire that none should perish? Nope. He makes a way thru Jesus that gives access to all to call on Him. Our "earning" is discarded for His accomplishment.   Join me for 7 minutes to see if being "better than Hitler" is enough.

What if your soul weighs more than a feather? s30e146 ps53

The ancient Egyptians had a mythology that visually describes the big  point today from Psalm 53: they believed that at the moment judgement, if the cumulative bad deeds of one’s life, weighed more than a FEATHER, you were condemned and then instantly devoured, consumed by this evil creature that stood at the ready for such a moment.  How many of us make it to heaven based on our own merits.  Listen 7 minutes to find out!  Subscribe. Is God is for me? s30e145 Ps.56d

You will need these 7 minutes.  Perhaps not today, but soon.  I know that some big difficult circumstance is hurling towards you. A lot will be asked of you on that day, so my humble suggestion is to be ready. As we discussed yesterday, one of the challenges will be: Do I trust God? Today, we'll look on the foundation that this trust sits upon. It is this: Do I know that GOD IS FOR ME? If so, it changes everything. KNOWING THAT GOD IS FOR YOU, will help you turn your HARDEST DAY to your finest day.

Who saves the tears that I shed? s30e144 Ps56c

The interior spiritual work of trusting God is for many, the hardest thing they will ever do. In fact, the struggle will be so difficult,  that tears will be shed over it.  So what happens to those tears? Psalm 56 tells us.  You might not believe it is in the Bible. I certainly didn't.

What does the DOLLAR say about you? s30e143 Ps56b

The US dollar, which you might be carrying in your back pocket SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU. Literally.  It declares something about you that Psalm 56 reinforces. What does the dollar say about you? The dollar says you trust in God. It says that WHEN you are afraid, you trust in God. And then, that trust ultimately results in not being afraid. What does the dollar say about you? The dollar says you trust in God. Now go and do so!

What if today is all you have? s30e141 Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Ps 118:24    Here's the truth about those days: Eventually, either the days are gone, or we are gone from the days. Who is sovereign over my days? Why did that guy have to die "so soon"? Who is in charge over the number of the days? What if I am grumpy about the whole topic?  If so, these 6 ½ minutes of this particular day, will be of good use to you.

Is the Lord on your side? s30e138 Psalm 118

To praise is to throw back to the Lord the fastballs of revelation that He has thrown at you. This commitment to be proclaiming hallelujahs is done in the context of some great questions: Is the Lord on your side? what can man do to me? Will I bless the Lord? Join me for the answer of Psalm 118.

Should I have children? s30e137 Psalm127b

Psalm 127 has something to say about whether you should have children and how many children you should have. Only God creates life.  We are blessed to be inheritors and stewards of the life He makes in children. I so admire the courage of young families. They are doing a nobel, God-ordained, God-rewarded, future-enhancing, self-protecting, generationally-supportive, fruit-making activity. Like and share. Come back tomorrow:

Can I EARN a relationship with God? s30e136 Psalm 127.

There is such a thing as laboring in vain.  It means doing work, but having no lasting output.  It is not that God is opposed to effort.  God is opposed to earning. The way to prevent efforts that END in the wrong place is to avoid efforts that start in the wrong place.  Join me for 7 minutes today, and tomorrow by subscribing to this channel so your efforts will not be in vain. https://youtu.be/xgd9aVFvTVE

If God’s greatness is “unsearchable,” should I still search? s30e133 Ps145

If God's GREATNESS is "unsearchable", what happens next? Unsearchable doesn’t mean we DO NOT SEARCH.  Unsearchable means that when we are done with our search, there is still more greatness to find. Just because the number is high, doesn't mean that we do not start the count, and count as hight as we can.   Search with me today. Let's account for His greatness as best we can.  Come back tomorrow too by subscribing:

Is God KIND? s30e135 Psalm 145

If God is not kind, we are all up a spiritual creek without a paddle.  God's kindness is what connects his GREATNESS to us.  God's kindness it the DELIVERY SYSTEM He uses to make His infinite greatness of particular use to us. You'll be needing both the unsearchable greatness of God and the tender kindness of God.  Listen as I deliver one of the above in 6 minutes.  Please subscribe.

What should I do with the greatness of God? s30e134 Psalm145

After going on a "greatness hunt", David concludes that God's greatness is unsearchable. It doesn't mean he shouldn't search.  It means that after such a spiritual accounting, there is still more greatness to discover.  As he does, he recommends a few things:  speak with yourself about what you find speak with others about what you find speak with God about what you find. Do you have a callus on your forehead? S30e140

Recently, I met some people who literally had calluses on their foreheads. Now this is a very strange thing, unless you figure out why they're there. Why would a person habitually use his forehead as a weight-bearing body part frequently enough to end up with a callus there?  watch for 7 minutes with me as we think about HABITS. Perhaps you too should have such a callus. Subscribe on Youtube if you want to see the mornings. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNijvDWAn2Wv2KFun2AnvCA

I know how long you are going to live s30e148 Psalm90

We weren't created to be finite. We are infinite, eternal beings...just not here in this life.  Someday, death will be no more. Meantime, Psalm 90 teaches us how long a typical life is.  It is important, because there is stuff to do before the final bell tolls.  Join me for 7 minutes today, at -3F, to find out how long you are going to live.

Telling God He did a GOOD JOB s30e132 Psalm 105 part b

If God has been active and kind to you in designing and implementing a rescue plan for you over many generations, you might want to take notice.  Psalm 105 helps us do just that.   It is a declaration of all that God has done in Israel to set the stage to save the world at Christmas. (and Easter.) Read and appreciate it with me today.  We'll be telling God, "You did a good job."

When you “wear a collar of iron” s30e131 Psalm105

Can a Christian walk with integrity when he faces circumstances he does not prefer? How about if the situation is so bad that he finds himself wearing "a collar of iron"? Is that the day to curse God? Or, like our enslaved hero, Joseph, do we endure despite the horrors of mankind? Do we faithfully walk amidst circumstances that we do not prefer? Look with me for 7 minutes for truth that touches our world. Subscribe, like, etc:

If you have a COMPLAINT for God s30e130 Psalm102

If you have a complaint for God, what exactly should you do with it.  Ps 102 does not sugar coat the circumstances that some face: when you are eating ashes; when you are drinking your own tears and when it is a day of loud groaning. These are the days of particular opportunity. The Lord has pity on those in the dust if we let Him. In the surety of Him is the security of me. I invite you to think for 6 minutes with me about what to do in very difficult times.
