This episode was not really intended to be a podcast episode at all...
A friend and I were voice messaging and this episode was my response to her asking for support and a "pep talk" around the fear she was experiencing surrounding a launch in her business. After listening to my message she encouraged me to share this with all of you as a podcast episode, so here it is!

23. The 5 Elements Of An Environment Of Growth with Ryan Sawyer
Episode in
Beauty in the Being
In this episode, Heidi and her husband Ryan have a conversation about the 5 elements of an environment of growth and how they continue to work toward consistently practicing all five in their own lives.
An environment of growth is defined as a safe space to learn and grow.
All human needs come back down to the basic need for safety and security. The opposite of safety is overwhelm.
When we create an environment of growth the outcome is presence.
With a sense of safety, the present moment is experienced, and it's only in the present moment that true transformation happens.
The Five Key Elements:
Control/Choice
Compassion/Patience (it’s ok to make mistakes)
Curiosity/Humor (beginner's mind)
Consistent Connection (Co-regulation)
Optimism (There is a gift in everything)

21. You Are Never Alone with Nichole Mischke
Episode in
Beauty in the Being
This week I am talking with my friend Nichole Mischke. For Nichole, sharing OTHER people's stories always came easy. She studied broadcast journalism and expected to have a lifelong career in the news business. However, in finally finding the courage to share her OWN story, a secret she had kept from everyone in her life for nearly a decade, she realized a vision for the stories she was meant to tell. In 2018, Nichole left her job in news to launch a media and storytelling platform called UNCOVERED.
UNCOVERED seeks to set people free through the power of owning and sharing your story. Nichole and her team produce short documentaries about people who have overcome toxic shame or some sort of struggle in their life with the intention to inspire hope, healing, and let people know that even amidst your greatest struggle or most shameful secret, you are not alone.
In this episode we discuss:
How owning your story can not only set you free but also inspire others to share theirs and help many more to feel less alone.
Nichole shares openly about the resistance she faced when making the decision to share her own story in public.
You may be surprised by how many people in your social circles, friend groups, and family have experienced something or are currently going through something similar to what you are keeping a secret.
We receive a lot of mixed messages about what it means to be "healthy", "successful" and "beautiful" in today's world which adds to the unnecessary shame and ultimately suffering many of us go through.
How sharing your story could potentially help you detach from identifying yourself with addiction, disorder, past experiences, or stigmas that aren't the truth of who you are.
Our greatest desire is to be fully known and loved for everything we are.

20. Owning Your Inner Authority with Misty Springer
Episode in
Beauty in the Being
In this week's episode, I chat with my dear friend and fellow coach Misty Springer all about owning your inner authority. This was such a fun conversation where we both shared so much from personal stories and examples of our own struggles and past limiting beliefs/ patterns to the science behind feeling sensations, thoughts, unconscious thoughts, and beliefs.
Some highlights from this conversation:
Owning your inner authority by learning to listen to your body and giving yourself permission to be on your own path.
Why you should stop ignoring your intuition and gut feelings. They are there to indicate something that needs your attention. PAIN: Pay Attention Inside Now.
Enlightenment at the bottom of the chocolate chip bag. How our avoidance patterns can point us to what we need to pay attention to inside ourselves.
How the body gives us access to our unconscious beliefs and shines a light on where we can grow and heal.
Tips for how to respond next time you become aware of a habit or pattern that is no longer serving you but feels out of your control.

Episode in
Beauty in the Being
This week on the podcast, Heidi talks with Judy Buchanan about how stress and chronic illness can be managed with energy medicine. Judy shares her story of chronic stress-related illness and her experience with energy medicine before becoming a Reiki Practitioner herself.
How energy can become trapped in the body aka. "the issues live in the tissues."
Ways to help yourself and others release and move stuck energy in the body.
Many of us have grown up with or been in an adult role (career, relationship, etc.) in life where we developed a learned belief that expressing and feeling emotions was inappropriate or wrong.
Creating a sense of safety within ourselves by balancing the nervous system with self-compassion, self-care, and more.
About Judy: Judy Buchanan is an entrepreneur whose mission is to empower others via energy medicine and resiliency education to be all they can be and thrive. She is an Unbeatable Mind Coach, energy medicine practitioner in the form of Reiki, Beyond Quantum Healing Hypnosis practitioner, Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions Instructor, speaker, retired soldier, wife, and mother of 2. As a retired soldier who is married to a former soldier, she understands first-hand the stressors experienced by first responders/service members and their families. While serving in uniform and raising a family Judy experienced multiple surgeries and began to experience chronic stress, anxiety, and pain. From these health challenges came the strength and passion to spark a change that led her to explore many holistic healing practices. 17. Getting Started with Cycle Syncing with Megan Rempel
Episode in
Beauty in the Being
Heidi talks with Megan Rempel, a wife, mom of 4, Registered Nurse, and an online Health & Wellness Coach. Megan's mission is to help women discover that life can actually be easier and more simple if they learn to tap into the energies of our monthly cycle. Megan also hosts the Fit To Be Mama Podcast.
In this episode we discuss:
How allowing our female cycle to be a roadmap for a more effortless way of living, we can feel less stressed & overwhelmed, and more powerful, energized & confident.
Many women share the belief that they have the belief that we need to BE all the things for everyone, go go go nonstop when really, we aren't! Nor should we! Our hormones do not support that.
Our "high energy" phase of our cycle really isn't that long...yet we are trying to live in that phase all month! This is why so many of us feel burnt out, disconnected, irritable, etc.
We NEED to have periods of rest and times when we really allow ourselves to go inward and tap into our feminine energy.
How making sure we are getting the right foods and types of movement in during each phase of our cycles can help increase energy, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.

Romy Marlo shares about her "dark night of the soul" moment and how her current mission and vision came from that place of despair and asking God for help.

11. How to Support a Grieving Person with Becky A. Benson
Episode in
Beauty in the Being
The holidays are a time for connecting with family and counting our blessings but this can also be a challenging time of year for those grieving the loss of a loved one.
Heidi talks with Becky A. Benson about the loss of her daughter and how she is using her own personal experience to help others who are grieving.
In this episode, we discuss:
How to support: Grief doesn’t need a hero it just needs a friend. Understanding some situations can’t be ‘fixed’. There is power in simply being with someone else. Your silent presence is worth much more than empty words. Bearing witness to someone’s struggle is doing heart work, and heart work can be hard work.
What Not to Say: Refrain from platitudes (they are in a better place, at least they are not suffering anymore) and distance-seeking words (I can not imagine) and offer acknowledgment of the weight of the situation to validate their feelings.
Connection as Time Passes Grief does not follow a prescribed timeline for anyone.
Grief that is Healthy and Grief that is Not: Loss of sense of self, heightened emotions, memory issues (and much more) are all perfectly normal in grief. As time moves on if these things seem not to be lessening or you find yourself being further removed from society, including family and friends, you may be stuck in your grief, and not processing.
About Becky:
Becky A Benson's work has appeared on Modern Loss, Modern Mom, The Manifest Station, Scary Mommy, Grief Narratives, Months to Years Lit Mag and has been syndicated on both Salon and Brain Child. She has written and spoken for the Center for Jewish Genetics in Chicago, and Soulumination in Seattle, and appeared on podcasts, webinars, and television.
She holds a degree in psychology and works for the National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association as the organization's Family Services Manager. Her passion is for helping families endure the loss of a child, spreading awareness for genetic conditions, advocating for adoption, and providing a voice to the marginalized in society. These things, above all else, continue to intimately shape her writing.

10. The Science of Habit Change with Stefanie Faye
Episode in
Beauty in the Being
Listen in on Heidi's powerful conversation with Stefanie Faye all about the science behind changing and replacing habits that no longer serve us.
In this episode, we discuss:
How habits or automations are actually helpful to our brain because they help us conserve energy and make fewer daily decisions.
Many habitual behaviors are often the result of attempting to meet our own internal need for psychological safety.
How to start building greater self-awareness, THE first, critical step towards long-term change.
Learning to observe or notice yourself can give you clues about why you may continue to run certain habits or automations.
How you can lengthen the amount of time between the stimulus and your response by practicing conscious breathing and mindfulness.
About Stefanie Faye:
Stefanie is a former researcher and has spent parts of her career measuring electric conductance of the skin (GSR), facial electromyography (EMG), and heart rate.
She currently works with quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), rhythmic sinus arrhythmia (heart rate variability), neurofeedback, and transcranial magnetic stimulation for clinical treatment at an intensive outpatient mental health clinic.
Her graduate research at New York University and fieldwork at the NYU Phelps lab for neuroscience research, the NYU Institute for Prevention Science, and Yeshiva University's Albert Einstein College of Medicine focused on the cross-section of self-directed neuroplasticity, family emotional climates, and empathy.
For the past decade, She has been teaching and consulting in countries all over the world by combining scientific insights and her training in monasteries with meditation masters from India, Africa, and Vietnam.
She is the host of the Mindset Neuroscience Podcast and currently works as a neurotechnology facilitator and coach.
