C.R.E.A.M.

It's another week y'all, so here we go! Join us at the table for today's topic. The infamous WU-TANG Clan said it best - "Cash Rules Everything Around Me." This is so true when you live in a society such as this one. These United States of America love getting the coins from their people, and will not give a damn if you don't have it to give.  We also get into the foolishness of the O-Melon vs. Mario situation and the other shenanigans of this latest Verzuz battle. We also shed some light on the big-ass elephant in the room that D.C. just dropped on us this past week. Member's ONLY

"Should I, or should I not?" The question artists usually ask themselves when it's time to make the big choice of joining the good ol' unions! Why not right? What's the harm in gaining more money, equity, and opportunity? Or is best to just chill on deciding until you're ready?  Plus we'll cover the various moments of the Tony Awards, J-Hud's new status, and the unfortunate fall of Wendy Williams.  Can't wait to have y'all at the table fam! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

Through the good, the bad, and the terrible awful. You know, when folks have that “shut up and dribble” mentality -are you one of them? F.U.B.U. - 'Fund Us, By Us'

Here we are, the season finale! Wow, what a ride.  Join us this week at the table as we chat with our special guest, businesswoman, and artist, Ms. Tina Fears! Both of us have either worked with or collaborated with Tina on various projects, and have definitely sought her out for council as she is a sincere pillar within the Atlanta artist community.  Together we discuss what it's like for black and brown artists, and we have to work twice, sometimes thrice as hard. In order to receive funding for projects, it takes all hands on deck. We have to input ourselves in certain spaces in order to feel safe within them. From artistic boards to casting, to advocacy - we need to be there for us! We have the power to make a change in every space that we take up. With the proper funding so much can be made possible.  We hope that you've enjoyed season two and all its glory! Can't wait to bring more to the table. Until next time, much love.  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

The C Word

Peace and Blessings fam! So, plain and simple - no one likes to be called or referred to as "crazy." For some that triggers so much, and can cause such trauma. On that side of the coin, those that are called this, usually feel as though something is wrong with them, and actually, believe what was just said to them. So what to do? How do you cope with the thoughts, anxiety, and anxiousness of the world? For some, it's therapy. Join us this week at the table, as we have invited our very first special guest, Ms. Charna F. Wilson, MFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) who's based in Atlanta. She comes through with the gems of why there are still hang-ups about therapy, what it can do for artists, families, and our generation as a whole. A full one this is, and we hope to let it be a blessing to someone who is dealing with any issues, and needs an outlet for answers! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

Tale of Two Cities

Plain and simple, the two of us are TIRED of the standards that are still in place! Not just within the entertainment industry, because GOOD-NESS there are standards. It's the everlasting double standard that is the ticket. A ticket that we wish was cast away, and never to be seen again!  Join us this week at the table as we discuss what those double standards entail, new productions on the horizon, and how one woman would've ended up on the news in a different kind of story...Just listen and you'll see.  Blessings BTR family!  IG: @iam_lydiaeku @jariuscliettperforms @blacktableread --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

Verified! The Standard of Fame

Where that blue check at?! Oh, you got to be at a certain level to get that...famous or at least close to it.  What is fame really? What is the overall premise for one to appreciate the levels it takes to reach it?  To be verified these days means that "you've made it." It means that the world is your oyster, and you've clutched that pearl with no hesitation, and all the hustle you got in you! What about when you haven't reached that certain peak of success yet that it takes to be seen as verifiable? Are you seen as not good enough? Join us this week at The Table Read as we dive into the nit of the grit! **Some adult language was used during the recording of this podcast.  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

More Than What Meets The Eye: The Importance of Black Fictional Characters

It's always a good feeling to see someone that looks like you on the screen, onstage, or on the page. The world of fiction can be stretched widely, and we can fit within that with all kinds of black creation!  Not just to be "good in the hood," but within every neighborhood - black superheroes can make a change. We can be in space, the realms of the future, and even in a wizarding world. This episode we're diving into it all.  Join us at the table!  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

The Convenience of Blackness

You want to be black when it suits you, but not when it matters. Some may see others as "culture vultures." Something that we see all too often within cultures of color - particularly the Black culture.   As artists we sense it as well when it comes to being accepted for jobs or fulfilling projects. Having certain people to tell our stories, but not reaching for OUR input. Being a minority advocate - How does it truly work? Do people know how to do it? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support

Road to the Top

WE'RE BACK FOR SEASON TWO!! What better way to start it off than to discuss the road to success? Last season was definitely a great starting point for us, and we are grateful for the stepping stones to pave our way up! With that said...the levels and ways to make it to the top of fame have changed. From Youtube to TikTok, fame can be achieved in many different ways, but what is the “true way” to get there? Is there even a right way or a wrong way?  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/black-table-read/support
