Episode in
Broadening the Narrative
In this episode, I talked with EbonyJanice about showing up authentically. EbonyJanice is the founder and CEO of The Free People Project and The EbonyJanice Project. She has authored several books, including All The Black Girls Are Activists: A Fourth Wave Womanist Pursuit Of Dreams As Radical Resistance. Her Spiritual Mentorship Program, entitled “Dream Yourself Free,” is designed to support Black Women to heal intergenerational wounds and prioritize pleasure. Her talks embody a Hip Hop Womanist perspective. She is the visionary and creator of Black Girl Mixtape, a platform and safe think space that elevates the intellectual authority of Black Women. She is the founder of the All The Black Girls Are Bestsellers Campaign, raising over a million dollars to mass purchase Black femme books with the goal of getting them on The New York Times Best Sellers List. This project endeavored to spend the bulk of these funds in small Black and Indie-owned bookstores and gifted thousands of books to individuals and organizations nationwide. EbonyJanice earned her Bachelors in Cultural Anthropology and Political Science and a Masters of Arts in Social Change with a concentration in Spiritual Leadership, Womanist Theology, and Racial Justice.

87. Freedom Is a Constant Struggle Discussion with Lettie Gore (S6 E7)
Episode in
Broadening the Narrative
In this episode, I talked with Lettie Gore about Angela Davis's book Freedom Is a Constant Struggle. Lettie is a historian, professor, and racial equity strategist & consultant. She teaches history at Cape Fear Community College. Lettie is also the owner of Lettie’s History Education & Consulting Services, Inc., her pop-up bookshop But Then You Read, and her podcast “History Shows Us”.
Lettie holds a Masters in History with a focus on Black American history and race studies. She also holds a Masters in Conflict Management & Resolution. Using a unique approach, Lettie combines her extensive history and antiracism knowledge with her conflict resolution skills to have necessary racial justice conversations with truth and compassion to help equip others with tangible tools to create personal and collective transformation. Her passion for teaching history’s truths and connecting the past to today’s racial and social justice issues is evident in the work she does.
One of her favorite James Baldwin quotes is, "I am what time, circumstance, history have made of me, certainly, but I am, also, much more than that. So are we all." These words continue to be a reminder and a guide for her as she carries out what she knows is part of her divinely driven purpose.

85. Occupation, Dehumanization, and Healing Trauma in Palestine with Ashira Darwish (S6 E5)
Episode in
Broadening the Narrative
In this episode, I talked with Ashira Ali Darwish about the realities of occupation, dehumanization, and healing trauma in Palestine as well as the new documentary Where Olive Trees Weep. Ashira is the founder of Catharsis Holistic Healing, a trauma therapy project in Palestine. She is known for pioneering Sufi active meditation to help people suffering from continuous trauma. This type of active meditation draws its roots from ancestral and Indigenous knowledge. Her personal journey of healing from full body paralysis with a severed spinal cord in 2012 has given her a deep insight into the process of recovery and healing. This unique perspective allows her to offer a highly specialized and culturally sensitive approach to trauma healing. In 2021, she received the "ISABS Honours" from the Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science for her contribution to positive societal transformation through the application of behavioral science principles and practices. Ashira started her career in Palestine as a journalist; she worked for 15 years as a TV and radio journalist and researcher for the BBC, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch.

Her focus is on the toilet, both the ritual and the receptacle. Previously, Sarah was a 2019 Rotary Peace Fellow and worked at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a founding member of the Carnival de Resistance and has been the Executive Director of Community Peacemaker Teams. She lived in Jerusalem 2011-2012, doing comparative liberation theology work and playing capoeira while challenging the occupation. She attended Spelman College, majoring in Comparative Women’s Studies and International Studies, minoring in Spanish. She has an MDiv from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, in her hometown of Elkhart, Indiana, and is licensed for ministry in MCUSA's Central District Conference. She recently finished up two full terms on the board of Buddhist Peace Fellowship, and is a member of Tzedek Lab which is a group that challenges racism, antisemitism, and white Christian supremacy. She and Jonathan are parents to a 2.5 year old.

After his time with CPT he completed a Master’s at the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. That program included a six-month internship in Cape Town, South Africa fighting for more just land policies. Jonathan was the Israel/Palestine Partners in Peacemaking Coordinator for Mennonite Church USA, where he facilitated the writing, passing, and implementation of the Seeking Peace in Israel and Palestine Resolution. Jonathan’s work connects the Palestinian decolonial struggle with those of other indigenous peoples and challenges theologies of domination.

She is a grounded leader with lived experience that centers on mindfulness and transformation. As a Black, queer feminist she brings a poignant lens to building a world that is more compassionate and understanding. With deep roots and knowledge in Buddhist and yogic teachings, Oneika delivers practical application and authentic connection through her facilitation skills. With openness and vulnerability, she facilitates the space to talk about change and embrace every part of ourselves.
Oneika has been practicing yoga for more than 20 years, and guiding yoga and meditation for more than a decade.
