This is a show for the ones who feel like they don’t quite belong. Emily Dukes is no stranger to feeling like an outsider. With a unique upbringing that left her feeling like the odd one out, she’s still searching for her place and voice even as a late 20-something. No topic is off-limits on this lifestyle show, covering everything from the familiar themes you know and love like friendships, relationships, and routines, to the more messy issues like mental health, trauma, leaving religion, questioning values, and more. No longer is Dukes trying to fit in at the cool kids’ table; she’s set her own table, where anyone and everyone is welcome to pull up a chair and join the conversation. You belong here.

003 - it's giving cult

Episode in Can't Relate
In what feels like decades, we're finally back on schedule with our regularly scheduled programming! Welcome to episode 3 of the Can't Relate podcast, It's Giving Cult. TW: This episode contains mentions of New Age spirituality, Q'Anon, and church cults. I've been nervous about releasing this episode, as I'm aware it may step on some toes, and I don't particularly like to be disliked. My intention with recording this episode was to shed light on the harmful practices I saw someone close to me fall into and in hopes provide support to you if you have had a family member or friend fall into these traps as well. Honorable mentions: The Dream podcast, hosted by Jane Marie. The Conspirituality podcast, hosted by Derek Beres, Julian Walker, and Matthew Remski.Sounds like a Cult, hosted by Amanda Montell and Isabela Medina. Cultish, a novel by Amanda Montell.

bonus episode 3 - moving to LA recap and dealing with sadness

Episode in Can't Relate
We finally made it to LA! In what will hopefully be our last bonus episode in this 3 part bonus segment, I chat about adjusting to living in a new environment and some depression I've felt since moving here. Even though my gratitude is unmatched, living in this new environment has been challenging, and this episode is the most raw, honest look at my emotions the last three weeks. Thank you for being along for the journey and for your continued support. Be kind to yourself today.

bonus episode 2 - answering all of your questions

Episode in Can't Relate
We're 6 days out from moving to LA and I've got another bonus episode for you, this time featuring questions from the audience and my colorful answers to each. I wish this was so much more polished than it is, as audio was rough for this episode and I didn’t have time to re-record. I wish my branding was as "seamless" as it was when I was first starting, but I'm giving myself as much compassion as possible as we're undergoing one of the most stressful things you can do in your adult life. Thank you for your unwavering patience, and without further ado, grab a snack, get cozy, and enjoy the second bonus episode of the Can't Relate podcast.///Link to my New York City video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPs7ueanWLc&t=105s

bonus episode 1 - we're moving to LA + ramblings about my goals and dreams

Episode in Can't Relate
SURPRISE we're moving to LA in under two weeks, and we're stressed as hell. Our house is a disaster, and we've been packing nonstop, so instead of pausing the podcast, I decided to create some "bonus" episodes that don't follow the menu I originally sketched out for season 1. I was torn between changing the order of the episodes, but even then, those episodes require research and some educational content that I just don't have mental capacity for at the moment. And surprisingly, recording without a script was absolutely wonderful. I feel like this bonus episode flowed so smoothly, as I ramble about my dreams for the next few years, the process of moving to LA, and more. So without further ado, enjoy roughly 50 minutes of this unscripted bonus episode.

Episode in Can't Relate
Welcome to Can't Relate, a weekly lifestyle show for the ones who feel like they don’t quite fit in. I'm your host, Emily Dukes, a 20-something living in Los Angeles, and I am no stranger to feeling like the odd one out. It's been a long time coming, but I've finally created my first show, where nothing is off-limits. We'll discuss all of the topics you already know and love like friendships, relationships, and more, but we're also going to be diving deep into ones that don't get enough attention. Pull up a chair and join the conversation; you belong here. I'll see you on April 12.
