We discuss an editorial published in the January 2024 issue of CJSM with the author, Dr. Jason Zaremski who runs a throwing clinic at the University of Florida. Gender Disparities in Professional Team Sports Physicians
We review the findings of the study investigating the gender makeup of professional sports team physicians with senior author and orthopedic sports medicine team physician at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Amit Momaya. Then we speak with South African team physician Dr. Phatho Zondi about her experience covering professional sports teams. Finally, we discuss strategies to improve inclusion of female sports medicine physicians in professional and elite teams.

Link Between the Female Athlete Triad and Gymnastics-Related Injury in Retired Collegiate Gymnasts
We review a study published in the July 2023 issue of CJSM with the senior author Emiley Sweeney, MD, pediatric sports medicine physician at the University of Colorado. The study evaluated the association between disordered eating, menstrual irregularity, and injury in collegiate gymnasts. We also spoke with CJ Keuneke, current elite level 10 gymnast, and her mother, Kelly Carfora, former gymnast at the University of Michigan about their experiences.

Which endurance athletes with atrial fibrillation are at risk for stroke?
We reviewed a study published in the May 2023 issue of CJSM with the first author Susil Pallikadavath, MBChB(Hons), academic clinical fellow in cardiology at the University of Leicester. The study sought to investigate risk factors associated with stroke among veteran endurance athletes with atrial fibrillation. We also discussed the study with masters endurance athlete, Rob Landis, who was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. He spoke about his experience managing his condition while continuing to be an active athlete.
