A British soldier, who was cross-examined in court over allegations made by disgraced human rights lawyer Phil Shiner, has told The Jon Gaunt Show the man has ruined his life. Sergeant Brian Wood, who was awarded the Military Cross, led troops over open ground with no cover in the Battle of Danny Boy in Iraq in 2004. Millwall face being evicted from their South London home and forced to relocate to North Kent, unless greedy Lewisham Council change their minds. The Labour-run council wants to sell the land surrounding the club's Bermondsey home to developers. Morris dancing is a great British tradition, but is it now under threat from the professional offence police? A group of Morris dancers from the Alvechurch group were heckled and harassed by locals in Birmingham, who claimed their use of black face paint was racist. Blacking up has a disputed origin in the Morris tradition, but defenders argue it comes from poachers in the sixteenth century hiding their identity. Rumours have spread that those who disrupted the dancers were mostly Muslim. Was 2016 the year of the little guy standing up to the elites? First, in June, Brexit delivered a sucker punch to the media and political establishment, with the people of Britain voting by 52% to 48% to leave the undemocratic EU. Then in November we had the election of Donald Trump, a populist and anti-establishment candidate who’s promised to “drain the swamp” of Washington DC. These victories have at least partly been credited to the rise of the “alt-right”, the so-called alternative right, which has grown online through blogs, social media and memes, challenging the orthodoxies of political correctness, globalism and multiculturalism. Ben Garrison would not describe himself as alt-right, but he has certainly been co-opted as a figurehead by many in the movement. A libertarian cartoonist and fine artist, Ben is best known for creating illustrations about United States political corruption and various conspiracy theories, but he’s also covered other global stories like Brexit in his work. A shopkeeper has been branded 'racist' after opening a store that celebrates being British. Chris Ostwald, 54, was shocked when his 'Really British' shop became the centre of a racism storm after it opened in Muswell Hill, north London. The shop sells nostalgic British goods - but instead of creating national pride, it has caused a furore. Locals were furious with the businessman's patriotic message and he has suffered such an onslaught of criticism that he was forced to take down his Union flags. Many of his critics, in the largely pro-Remain borough of Haringey, have accused him of being insensitive during a period of heightened cultural tension. Sadiq Khan is considering removing ‘ladies and gentlemen’ from announcements on Transport for London vehicles after a transgender woman was mocked by staff. Aimee Challenor, 19, claims she was told she ‘didn’t sound like a miss’ during a call to the organisations over her Oyster card. Miss Challenor, equalities spokesperson for the Green Party, has since called on Mr Khan to do more to ensure TfL improve their training around gender equality. Sergeant Alexander Blackman, also known as Marine A, was sentenced in 2013 to ten years, later reduced to 8, for the execution of an injured Taliban insurgent whilst on tour in Afghanistan. Now, the case is to be reopened again by the Courts Martial Appeal Court, with an independent reviewer stating that there is "a very real possibility" that Blackman's conviction will be quashed.
