Fight with your Word

Eph 6:10-13 There are moments in our lives where we have to learn how to fight. Some of us have been fighting all kinds of obstacles and challenges that are coming our way. Sometimes fights come to us that we didn’t plan, ask for or anticipate. We can’t run from everything but there are some things that we have to face. Let us look at today’s scripture for some added motivation. Sometimes you have to learn to fight!

Psalms 8 In today’s sermon scripture, David talks about the majesty and excellency of God. Right in the middle of his praise, he talks about how God is with us – that his presence is here for us. This Psalm simply talks about how good God is to us. God is so great that he can use the weakest of things to accomplish the greatest of things

Acts 12:1-11 The famous Thomas Dorsey during the grieving of the death of his wife and child wrote the hymn “Precious Lord” which gave birth to the gospel genre of music. His disappointment turned into a platform to grow his faith and to use him to bless millions. In the scriptures, Peter too experienced various setbacks while spreading the Gospel. However, in the face of opposition, God always delivered him. So too, God uses unfortunate interruptions to develop unwavering faith that produces unbelievable results. God never wastes a crisis – even a pandemic.

Today we celebrate the 45th Church Anniversary and reflect on the road that we have traveled. Throughout those 45 years, we have faced many challenges and triumphs. Yet this year, we have never faced a challenge like the current one. Despite this, we have realized that we can still praise God during a pandemic! A pandemic cannot stop our praise because HE has been with us through it all! Our prayer in this season is that we want God to do something great through the life of our Church.

oshua 1:5-9 As the year continues, so do the challenges that we face. We are dealing with the pandemic crisis, an economic crisis, and now a racial crisis. But this is not the first time that the people of God have faced crises. The children of Israel were transitioning leadership after the death of Moses to the new leadership under Joshua. They were also transitioning from living in the wilderness to moving into the promised land. God spoke to Joshua as to how to handle the moment. So too we can use these lessons to guide us through our current realities.

Nehemiah 1:11 With all the recent events taking place, we often ask ‘what can I do?’, ’how can I get involved?’ or ‘how can I use my voice?’. Isaiah asked God to use him, so did Samuel and David. Nehemiah was no difference and experienced the same emotions praying - "Lord, use me!". As our city continues to grapple with the changes that are happening, we too can cry out to God to use us to make a difference in our community and advance the Kingdom. Let us look at the Scriptures to see what guidance is given.

Galatians 6:9

Psalms 54:3-4 “When white America catches a cold, black America gets pneumonia.” This past week has felt extremely tumultuous with the latest events that have unfolded in the country. We have been experiencing a myriad of emotions. With all that we have seen and heard; our hearts have been burdened. So too during this time in Psalms, David was experiencing the same emotions battling with Saul and those associated with him. He is crying out to God saying, “I can’t breathe!” because he too feels like he is suffocating with his current reality. Today we will examine the scriptures to see how David handled his situation how we can apply these lessons to our current reality.

Pastor Michael Greene - At this point in the Bible, the people of Israel were exiled to several different nations. In this chapter, Jeremiah specifically writes to the people that are in Babylon. He wanted to encourage them and let them know that although many things have change, God’s plans have not change. So too as we navigate through the current pandemic, we can rest in knowing that God’s plans for us have not change.

Prayer is not an optional part of a believer’s life because it gives us vision and insight in all parts of our lives. Paul urges us as believers to make prayer a priority in our lives. The enemy wants us to worry so we can forget God’s word and overlook at the times God has come through for you. As we give God all our cares, He gives us back His peace.
