The Importance of a National Cuisine
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
Today I'm sharing my article from December 26, 2025, "When Dinner Stops Being Ours: Cuisine, Immigration, and the Quiet Erosion of Belonging." I challenge the idea—pushed by folks like Piers Morgan—that mass immigration is worth it because it spices up "bland" Western food. While new flavors can be great, I argue through personal stories of smoking Southern barbecue in the Hudson Valley and connecting to my Mississippi roots that cuisine is far more than taste: it's a sensory anchor to identity, family, region, and nation. From Thanksgiving turkey to Fourth of July grills, shared foods build quiet solidarity. Yet fast food, global trade, and demographic shifts are quietly replacing our culinary inheritance, eroding belonging in the process. We should cherish and pass down our own traditions first—because when dinner stops being ours, a piece of home slips away.

Saving the American Dream for Gen Z
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
In today's episode, I'm sharing my latest article, "Regaining the American Dream for Zoomers: What the Government Can Do." I argue that the classic American Dream—of hard work leading to independence, family, and community—is slipping away from Generation Z amid skyrocketing debt, collapsing marriage and birth rates, and cultural decay. While prayer and personal virtue are essential, I lay out bold government steps we can take right now: incentivizing traditional marriage and family formation, ending predatory high-interest lending, and creating mandatory civil service programs to build skills, discipline, and confidence in young people without burying them in college debt. This isn't just policy—it's about saving our civilization and restoring real opportunity for Zoomers, Alphas, and beyond.

The Fall of New Calvinism: Father Hunger, Brands, and Lost Standards
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
Let's dive into the dramatic rise and fall of New Calvinism (the Young, Restless, and Reformed) movement that once captivated a generation of evangelical men seeking doctrinal depth and masculine leadership.
We'll look at "father hunger," the shift from solid theology to holistic lifestyle brands, and the erosion of standards amid scandals, shifting labels, and online tribalism.
We will examine how unmet expectations and betrayals propelled many former adherents toward bitterness, the manosphere, and edgier political fringes.
We will highlight enduring biblical virtue, local roots, and direct dependence on Christ rather than celebrity pastors or fleeting cultural formulas.

The Schemes of the Devil - Jon Harris
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
In "The Schemes of the Devil" based on Ephesians 6:10-12, Jon Harris urges believers to recognize the reality and danger of Satan, a deceptive liar and destroyer who blinds unbelievers and actively tempts Christians toward sin, division, unforgiveness, pride, and false beliefs, yet whose power is limited and ultimately defeated. While unbelievers remain helpless under his dominion and should fear him, Christians need not fear but must take him seriously, staying alert to his tailored schemes that exploit personal weaknesses through lies about others, self, God, and even Satan himself. Victory comes not in our own strength but by continually putting on the full armor of God (truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer), depending on the Lord's might to stand firm against spiritual forces of evil in ongoing spiritual warfare.

The Men Who Stayed: Defeating Pottersville one Wonderful Life at a Time
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
In the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life, George Bailey embodies the dutiful, small-town American man who sacrifices personal ambitions for family and community, yet struggles with feelings of insignificance and unfulfilled dreams—a midlife crisis many modern middle-aged men experience today, intensified by technology and social media. These men often feel invisible as they watch others gain influence online, grapple with unmet expectations around homeownership, marriage, and family, and witness a broken cultural rite of passage where young men seek validation through viral memes, edgy content, or shocking behavior rather than traditional markers of manhood. In contrast, these “modern George Baileys”—faithful husbands, fathers, volunteers, churchgoers, and responsible citizens—quietly uphold society through daily sacrifice and local service, often exhausted and underappreciated, yet their steady presence prevents communal decay. The author affirms their profound, often unseen significance, reminding them that their grounded, virtuous lives are the true foundation of civilization, blessed as described in Psalm 128, and encourages them to recognize their lasting impact this Christmas.

SBC Credibility Shatters on #MeToo
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
The Southern Baptist Convention has undermined its moral authority amid America's institutional legitimacy crisis by adopting progressive agendas, including a multimillion-dollar #MeToo alliance costing over $13 million—featuring the Guidepost investigation—that led to selling its headquarters. This stemmed from a purported abuse emergency based on contested events: Paige Patterson's 2018 firing over remarks and an unverified allegation; the 2019 Houston Chronicle report (with predation rates critics say are below societal averages across 47,000 churches); and Jennifer Lyell's progressive activism framing a 12-year consensual relationship with David Sills as abuse, now unraveling via romantic emails revealed in the Sills' ongoing defamation lawsuit exposing Guidepost's biased process. The episode reflects a shift from biblical standards on adultery to secular frameworks, demanding new leadership rooted in truth for restoration.

Patriarchy and Paternalism: What's Different About the Christian West?
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
The “trad wife” trend shows people are starving for natural order after feminism’s damage — but not all patriarchy is the same.
Nietzschean vitalism (Bronze Age Pervert, Andrew Tate, etc.) celebrates raw conquest, optional families, and disposable wives.
That’s not what built the West.
The West was built by a different kind of man: monogamous, self-controlled, paternal Christian fathers who protected the weak, adopted the fatherless, and saw dominion as a duty to family, community, and God — not an end in itself.
If we replace that paternal strength with either polygamous warlord energy or soft nanny-state nudging, the civilization that conquered the world will fall. We are not just patriarchal. We are paternal — and that’s the part worth saving.

Struggling with Singleness and Infertility During Christmas
Episode in
Conversations That Matter
Jon Harris offers encouragement to the growing number of singles – especially Gen-Z and Millennials approaching or past thirty – who dread the holidays because the spouse and children they long for are still nowhere in sight.
Drawing from his own years of singleness and prolonged infertility, Jon refuses to give cheap platitudes or toxic “just be content” advice. Instead, he validates the very real grief of empty chairs at Christmas dinner, silent second bedrooms, and Hallmark movies that now sting.
He reminds us that:
- It’s normal and right to mourn good gifts that haven’t come yet
- Church community and invitations help, but they don’t (and can’t) replace the family you don’t have
- Counting it all joy doesn’t mean pretending the trial isn’t hard—it means trusting the Father’s mysterious, loving providence even while you weep
- Jesus Himself knows singleness, rejection, and sorrow, and He entered this broken world at Christmas for the precise purpose of meeting you in yours.
You’re not forgotten, you’re not failing, and you’re not alone—God sees every tear, and the One born in Bethlehem is still Emmanuel, God with us, even in the ache.
“Though He slay me, I will hope in Him.” (Job 13:15)
“In this world you will have tribulation—but take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
