Rick Sowash: Giving it All Away
Episode in
Crushing Classical
Rick Sowash lives by his wits. He has earned most of his living by weaving the history and folklore of his native Ohio into books which he himself writes, publishes and markets.
In earlier years, he supported his family in a variety of ways: as an elected public official, an arts administrator, a radio broadcaster, an innkeeper, a church choir director, a housepainter and a guard at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
Presently, Rick teaches music, French and literature at the University of Cincinnati’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute where he has attained the Stephen Appel Award for excellence and creativity in teaching.
Rick’s true calling is the composition of classical music. He publishes his own sheet music and has produced 18 CD recordings of his own compositions.
A storyteller/speaker all along and an increasingly recognized composer, Rick has made thousands of appearances before audiences large and small.
Rick’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra has been recorded on the Marquis Classics label by David Drosinos and the St. Petersburg Symphony under Vladimir Lande. His cello concerto was premiered in Carnegie Hall in 2006. His music is often broadcast on Cincinnati’s WGUC and many other classical music radio stations throughout the USA.

Clare Longendyke: Running Her Own Solo Career
Episode in
Crushing Classical
Pianist Clare Longendyke is a soloist, chamber musician, and fearless advocate for new music who brings daring repertoire and thoughtful storytelling to the concert stage. Her performances are marked by imaginative programming, charismatic stage presence, and a gift for weaving together contemporary works and classical favorites.
In 2024, Clare released her debut solo album, …of dreams unveiled, featuring music by Claude Debussy, Amy Williams, and Anthony R. Green. The album reached #2 on the Billboard Traditional Classical chart and was praised as “a work of remarkable pianistic invention” (The WholeNote) and “delightfully daring” (EarRelevant).
A passionate collaborator with living composers, Clare has commissioned more than 30 new works and premiered over 250 pieces in the past decade. Her programs often pair works from the standard repertoire by Beethoven, Debussy, and Amy Beach, to name a few, with today’s most compelling musical voices, creating concerts that speak to the depth and vitality of the classical tradition.
Highlights of Clare’s 2025–26 season include appearances with Symphony New Hampshire, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and the Danville Symphony of Illinois. She has appeared on recital series across the country and as a soloist with the Mankato Symphony, Rochester Symphony, and Symphonicity.
Clare holds degrees from Boston University (BM) and Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music (MM, DM). Whether from the stage or in conversation, Clare invites audiences into the heart of her artistry—one that builds bridges between tradition and transformation and brings the concert experience vividly to life.

Pauline Frechette: At the Edge of Everything
Episode in
Crushing Classical
Pauline Frechette is a contemporary composer. Her melodies and harmonies take you to unexpected places, emotionally driven yet only 3 or 4 minutes long. Her compositions are gems that spark the 21st century need for private inspiration, sensual beauty or glowing romanticisim. A Frechette miniature fills the need for warm flow, deeper meaning or emotional lift to a higher plane. Pauline composes mostly from the piano. Her neo-classical music has been compared to Schuman, Ravel and Eric Satie. Critics say of Pauline’s music:
“…absolutely captivating beyond words.” ~ Jeremy Gladstone, Sleeping Bag Studios
“…hip and vulnerable, cool and polished all at once.” ~ Jacob Aiden, Jamsphere Radio
“… I have never in my life as a professional music critic heard anyone touch my heart the way that she does when I hear her songs.” ~ Jack Saint, Music Reviews
Pauline’s great-grandfather, Josef Vezina, founded the Quebec Symphony and her father was the organist for the Chicago Black Hawks. From an early age, Pauline played violin in youth orchestras, won piano competitions and was a scholarship student at the American Conservatory of Music. Her musicals have been produced by the Goodspeed Opera House and the La Mirada Performing Arts Center. Her compositions have been performed by the Baltimore Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, New West Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, National Symphony at the Kennedy Center and at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Pauline’s last four albums debuted in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Classical, Classical Cross-over and Jazz charts. Her music is currently played internationally and has over 30 million streams. Her new album, At the Edge of Everything, features legendary bassist, Stanley Clarke.

Kate Reddish: Consulting COO and Community Architect
Episode in
Crushing Classical
Kate Reddish is a former professional violist turned strategic operator for creative entrepreneurs.
After years performing on world-class stages and working across film, television, and recording studios, Kate discovered that her real genius wasn’t just making music—it was creating harmony behind the scenes.
Today, as the founder of KMR Creative, Kate helps online educators, artists, and coaches design calm, sustainable businesses through thoughtful systems, clear strategy, and deeply human leadership. She’s best known for her long-running partnership with violinist Nathan Cole, where she’s served as the operational backbone behind multiple successful course launches and programs.
Kate has a rare ability to bring order to chaos without stripping away the soul of the work. Clients often say she helps them become “more themselves”—more grounded, more confident, more capable—by building systems that actually support their creativity instead of suffocating it.
Equal parts strategist, listener, and quiet powerhouse, Kate believes organization is a form of care—and that when the right structure is in place, beautiful things get to happen.
