Derry City has dropped to 4th in the league following a 3-1 defeat to Dundalk and a 2-2 draw v Shamrock Rovers, who leapfrogged the Candystripes on Friday after their victory v Galway United. Kenny Shiels believes Rovers were “lucky” to get away from the Brandywell with a point having played with “no rhyme or reason”. Things are getting tighter in the race for the European spots following results on Friday and Tuesday evening respectively. Last week Derry City swept Wexford Youths to one side in the FAI Cup Quarter Finals at Ferrycarrig Park with a 3-1 win and now face the daunting trip to Oriel Park to face Current League and FAI Cup Holders Dundalk in the semi-finals. In January 2016 the Denis Bradley/Patrick Simpson Review of Derry City FC was published and the review concluded “There has been a failure to attend to the off –pitch life of the club that has resulted in some neglect of important and perhaps even vital aspects.” One aspect noted by many in the consultation was the failure to market the club to the people of Derry and beyond. In April, Derry City FC acted by creating a Commercial & Marketing Manager post.
