Thursday Night D-STAR Round Table. Join us on reflector XRF002A, XRF310A and XRF555A 7:00pm PDT weekly. You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History  k6jm: I am curious how many people who follow the Round Table have higher-power hotspots and which modems they are using. The xxxSPOT combined modem/miliwatt-level radio boards (like ZUMspot) are popular. But how many people are instead running 5-20 watts? k6jm: For higher-powered hotspots or repeaters, which modem do you use? ZUM Radio's MMDVM-Pi Board www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-016486 ? Repeater Builder RB_STM32_DVM www.repeater-builder.com/products/stm32-dvm.html ? k6jm: Or the Nano TEENSY www.micro-node.com/index.shtml ? Or something else? N6HKH: Round Table YouTube channel link (replacing iTunes podcast) www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ8Cm0_M0cTmDXbViJrAwjA VA3TWT: I am using a DVRPTR v1 on my public facing hotspot. Running at 25 watts. k6jm: Thanks K6FED, KJ6OOV, N7PGI, WB5EKU and VA3TWT for your reports about the modems and higher-power radios you are using. I personally have a ZUM MMDVM v1.0 modem vintage 2016, firmware on connected Arduino Due into a Pi 3, with Kenwood D700 at 10 watts. k6jm: IC-9700 -- have not done a price search, but notice Universal Radio will sell it for $1,900. Remember it supports D-Star digital data similar to the old ID-1 on 1.2 GHz. N0RSR: SSTV can be encoded and decoded with android or PC apps, The ISS will be transmitting SSTV within the next week or twok6jm: With increasing combo of ham radio and computing, many modes now automatically display info from callsign lookup sites like qrz.com. We can or will be able to configure to display callsign, name, location. N0RSR: as an additional thought after seeing a few of the 2019 RSA conference videos, I'm almost scared to connect to any other internet hotspotN0RSR: www.rsaconference.com/videos k6jm: Regarding attempts to tie radio id to location, note the DMR id tried to have the 1st 3 characters identify the country, but that has run into problems. See www.radioid.net/ N0RSR: VPN use still tosses out your MAC address and wireless connection, also Bluetooth even in non discoverable mode basically shouts out to anyone listening "I'm not discoverable" k6jm: Regarding easy ways to connect a DV hotspot to a WiFi system (e.g. in a hotel, cruise ship etc.) -- check out products like HooToo's travel router. See www.hootoo.com/hootoo-tripmate-ht-tm05-wireless-router.html N0RSR: The video that made the most impact for me was this one: youtu.be/pJXCZ1kAOGA k6jm: Mike -- yes lasers can go through walls. You do have to deal with the new holes in them, though.

Mentions at the beginning that it is soldered on. It is possible that the soldering has to do with cost or reliability. Not sure. Just a guess. youtu.be/5ZQGSwKl8fY   AG6WK: FYI Step By Step PDF Guide found on Hamradio website to Set Up OLED ZUMspot using PiStar was updated on March 24th, 2019 by Toshen, KE0FHS.   AG6WK: I missed that. Thursday Night D-STAR Round Table. Join us on reflector XRF002A, XRF310A and XRF555A 7:00pm PDT weekly. You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History N0RSR: With the DVMEGA, can you have 2 modes at once going or does it need to be one or the other? i'm guessing it's a single mode at a time KK6MYS: I just switch over to pi-star from dstar commander after my sd card went. I notice that on the constellation my call sign is announced every 10 or so minutes. Is this happening to anyone else using pi-star on the constellation? KK6MYS: If yes is it something I can turn off on my end? k6jm: Question about DMR ids (also used for D-Star CCS7 callsign routing) - Got my DMR ids a long time ago. I understand with various changes North American hams should now go to www.radioid.net/. Has anyone does this recently? k6jm: New process to get a new DMR id -- do you need to prove you have an amateur radio license?N0RSR: Sorry for the possibly repeated question/topic, still the noob with D-StarKK6MYS: Im using Pi-Star with a DVAP KK6MYS: I found the expert part of the setting, Where do I turn it off? KK6MYS: Not using MMDVM host KK6MYS: K6JM thank you. Standing by... KK6MYS: Thank you W6KD, I found it and will change it after then RT. Don't want to mess up my recording of the RT.N0RSR: I'll be looking into DMR in a couple weeks, still playing with/learning D-star and fusion.kc9sio: Mike, you sound like you're in a barrel, and your audio is low. k6jm: When WB5EKU gets back on the net, he can tell us about his many callsigns and DMR ids. I have 1 personal callsign and 1 club callsign, so I have only 2 DMR ids. Both are 7-digit. I can see on DMR Brandmeister, adding a 2-digit unique-ifier makes sense. k6jm: I agree with KC9SIO about Mike's audio sounding like in an echo chamber. I strongly suspect the mike on the boom is not active, and there is some other mike in the shack that we are hearing. Mike -- tap on the boom mike itself, not the boom.N6HKH: I know. Unfortunately I cannot do much about it now. N0RSR: The RadioID.net account creation verification email came back quickly, but the DMR assignment hasn't shown up yet. k6jm: W4GMI has a tech question, Mike.... N0RSR: Windows updates this past week, most likely MS thought the device driver needed update...k6jm: Question about DVRPTRv1 to DR-1X - check out www.hke.no/d-star-on-fusion.htmlVA3TWT: I have the schematic for the DVRPTR v1 board, but didn't get the email address to send it to. Let me know and I will scan it.

You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History   KK6MYS: for the station asking about a MMDVM case that could hold an Arduino and Raspberry pi. d-star-roundtable.boards.net/thread/407/asking-case-mmdvm-raspberry-pi   N6HKH: The Round Table always starts at 7:00pm Pacific regardless of the shift to/from DST.   n0rsr: I had my hands on the Zumspot-USB over the weekend but went the other way, I ended up buying the wife the Zumspot/Pi hat kit. I've not really tested it this week as I really like the DVMega dual band kit that I purchased a couple weeks back.   n0rsr: tech.co/news/facebook-google-outage-2019-03 Has limited info about the outage this week.   n0rsr: facebook blamed a server configuration change, google hasn't published the root cause.   n5wd: N0RSR -> You'll find several of us who are using the DV Mega boards (both single band and others, like me, who are using the dual band version) that are as happy as clams in the mudbank with our DV Megas... they just run and run... DE N5WD Wayne   n5wd: N6HKH -> possibly related to a "worldwide internet tactical action" - had a lot of trouble getting into online bank to pay mortgage over the last several days. Finally got in, but went past late payment deadline - gotta beg to see if they'll forgive fee   AG6WK: search for this on google usb hd voip headset   AG6WK: within Amazon search for andrea usb headset ($50 to $80) or usb hd headset (some more pricey)   AG6WK: known brand not andrea www.amazon.com/Headset-USB-softphones-Monaural-compatible/dp/B015JB8QSW/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XQ0ZYYB27MVBSGPEWRZ3 last one don't want to advertise!   AG6WK: great info from N0RSR about outage! You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History  kc9sio: N6HKH, I just received an email from KC8YQL. He had a fiber optic line that just got cut. That's all he's told me so far. kc9sio: KC8YQL sent you, and I both an email regarding it. KG5SLG: Getting ever other word on xrf002a not understanding anything KG5SLG: Hearing Bill just fine on XRF002a KG5SLG: Mike not so fine K6KD: I hear all stations fine on several reflectors. Likely internet issue. VA3TWT: Mike sounds fine here in Ontario Canada on XRF002A. KG5SLG: I think its a path issue going to switch to another reflector N0RSR: I'm not seeing any losses or bit errors since the top of the hour on XRF002A, you're sounding good here in Casa Grande, AZN0RSR: 4% loss on Frank in last transmission k6jm: Hotspot link to XRF002A is excellent. But our local D-Star repeater is also linked to XRF002A and it did not hear the net for about the first 1ß minutes. However, all ok now. K6FW: Copy net control broken and Frank fine on XRF002A N4DLW: MIKE, YOU SOUND MUCH BETTER THAN LAST COUPLE WEEKS! I'M ON xrf555a. K6FW: Copy K6JM fine N0RSR: www.f4fxl.org/ref-xrf-dcs-xlx-whats-the-difference/ N6HKH: Thanks for the reports. KG5SLG: I just switched to XRF555 and mike is still breaking up hearing everyone just fine expect mike. audio still clipping k6jm: John - K6KD - thanks for the correction regarding XLX reflector software being open source.K6KD: You're welcome, Jim N0RSR: You may find a 3d printable case on Thingiverse N0RSR: www.thingiverse.com/search?q=mmdvm&dwh=395c81e5340fed6 n5vrp: Latency issues with an ISP, etc. n5vrp: No problem on XRF555 A other than internet loss. n5vrp: low audio N0RSR: www.speedtest.net/kc9sio: I have been on XRF002 A the entire time. k6jm: Mike-Your Nomadic travels reminds me of my son bicycling through Europe in 1996, carried a tiny HP DOS handheld computer & phone modem with alligator clips to phone wires. He'd meet cyclists who invited him to stay, some let him clip onto their phonewires KK6MYS: my hotspot was on xrf310 and did not get most of the RT audio. If you have the RT recorded please contact Mike or I so I can post the podcast tomorrow. N6HKH: K6JM  N6HKH: Anyone recording this net and willing to share it for the podcast, please let me know via email: N6HKH@me.comk6jm: Yeah, but Worcester MA is pronounced by locals as Wooster and all other pronunciations are just wrong.... OTOH, a town in Iowa is spelled Navada and they pronounce it Nah-VAY-dah, so that is what is correct there. Go figure.k6jm: N0SRS, your town Casa Grande, AZ has a nice article in NYT and tries to explain why it is pronounced Casa Grand. www.nytimes.com/2011/10/14/us/in-casa-grande-rival-pronunciations.html N0RSR: Thanks for having me, satellite company is now ViaSat, but was previously Wildblue and Excede N0RSR: youtu.be/byc9Fs5HBdQ N0RSR: Not that we're proud of the video, but it's mostly factual kc9sio: The ZumSpot USB Stick is listed on the Radio/Modem Type in the Configuration on Pi-Star. k6jm: To mix KC8YQL's reference to the new Tesla Model 3 and Ham Radio -- the Model 3's have become quite popular here in California, but I have not talked to any Hams with one. Anyone know how much RF noise is present in this particular electric vehicle? N6HKH: KC9SIO: Thanks, Steve. N0RSR: Also, have VOIP over the same satellite servicek6jm: N0RSR - thanks for posting that video. Fun to watch.n5vrp: I know a ham with a Tesla S with ham gear. Runs the ham gear off of a AGM battery. I talk to n5vrp: him all the time when he is mobile. He reports no interference problems and I have heard none.n5vrp: 50w UHF full duplex system N0RSR: KC8YQL mentions a good history/experience reference, we came to AZ @10 years ago and as I said on the net first experience with satellite was near atrocious, but last 5 years it's improved 400-500 percent kc9sio: Yep, no problem Mike. N0RSR: signing off, thank you folks, talk to you next week n5vrp: he is a doctor with ee degree. have more next week. kc9sio: What was that about a separate battery with he Tesla Model 3?

Thursday Night D-STAR Round Table. Join us on reflector XRF002A, XRF310A and XRF555A 7:00pm PDT weekly. You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History  K0OQL: I have a moencomm starboard, will pi-star work on it? Are there any current programs that will? thanks Joel k6jm: Yes, Pi-Star can be configured to run DStarRepeater and ircDDBGateway instead of MMDVMHost for D-Star only. Works great. However, the other option is D-Star Commander, which still works great for D-Star. AG6WK: www.repeater-builder.com/rbtip/index.html AG6WK: www.dstar101.com/ccsrouting.htm k6jm: Pi-Star is available at www.pistar.uk/downloads/ -- one version for the various Pi's, plus other images for similar like Nano, ODroid, etc. k6jm: Yes, MMDVMHost is G4KLX's multi-mode replacement for DStarRepeater. When configured for D-Star, it uses ircDDBGateway to link to D-Star reflectors. It can connect to one DMR network like BrandMeister. For multiple DMR networks, DMRGateway handles that. AG6WK: Thanks Jim K6JM!

DRT 198 - 20190221 - Reflector Problems

Thursday Night D-STAR Round Table. Join us on reflector XRF002A, XRF310A and XRF555A 7:00pm PDT weekly. You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History  KK6MYS: My setup did not record the audio from last nights RT. No podcast sorry. ks5v: Good evening from Texas! If I may ask a question, I am trying to use the TY-MD380ToolZ for updating my MD380's firmware, and the DMR user database. My current problem is that V1.08C crashes on my Win7 desktop and Win7 laptop upon program invocation. ks5v: I would appreciate knowing if anyother DMR hams are experiencing this problem and any remedies, 73 KS5V ks5v: KS5V (con't) have tried loading newest versions of .NET to no avail. N9KO: KS5V - If you do not get your answer tonight, check into the DMR Info net, Tuesdays 7:30 pm on TG 31648. This has been discussed there. KG5SLG: KS5V Tytools is working fine on my windows 10. I had a similar problem with mine, I just deleted and extracted the zip file again and it worked. KG5SLG: I could not connect to XRF002A as well for a bit then it just reconnected KG5SLG: not hearing you mike KG5SLG: loud squeal and you were gone kc9sio: Mike, you're buzzing. KE0OMT: Getting a lot of buzzing from you mike. I'm linked to XLX313 kc9sio: I'm linked to XRF002 A. KG5SLG: Hey Steve kc9sio: Hey Elmer. kc3bax: buzzing on XRF 555A also N6HKH: I believe all reflectors are now working properly. Please report any difficulties after trying to connect again. KE0OMT: Anything new on the LTE radio 'DV4 MOBILE' I'm interested in being able to connect directly to reflectors without the need of a Hotspot kc9sio: Elmer, have you tested it on the US Trust reflectors? kc9sio: Terminal Mode. n5vrp: XRF555 comes and goes as moving around, mike. KE0OMT: This is the ZUMSPOT with USB www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-016662 k6fed: Mike I had to move to XRF002A because of background noise on XRF555A ks5v: The Broadcastify link appears to also be offline for the RoundTable tonight. KE0OMT: Look like Pi Star could be setup for this ZUMSPOT USB Stick drive.google.com/open?id=1RdZywYaifl5QKFFUcasZjBH8pWj-1lUo N6HKH: Yes, our Broadcastify feed unfortunately has been down for the last few weeks and likely for a few more.k6fed: Dv4mini Software: 112.xreflector.es/Soft_DV4MINI/     Layout adapted to the possibilities of MMDVM (DMR)    20-digit indication of the location    QTH-Locator up to 10 digits    DMR-ID usable with extensions (01-99)    Supports Embedded Datkc9sio: XRF002 A is working just fine.KE0OMT: www.gigaparts.com/dv4mobile.htmlk6jm: For high-power multi-mode hotspots and repeaters, the ZUM Radio MMDVM modem is in stock at HRO for $100. Latest version with improved filters and improved audio multiturn pots making it easier to configure and adjust during setup. ks5v: Just tired to listen to the Podcast via Itunes and the last available show is DRT 197 from Feb 8. Was there a show last week? and will it be DRT 198? k6fed: peanut.pa7lim.nl ; New! So instead of MMDVMHost, you want to enable DStarRepeater and ircDDBGateway. So D-Star mode only for this kc9sio: K6JM, how is it behaving with the US Trust reflectors? k6jm: I see on the Wireless Holding website at wirelesshold.com/dv4mobile.aspx that the DV4Mobile will be available in 2018.... So like Bill, I will be interested to see when or if it actually becomes available. k6jm: XRF002A has been working perfectly... Hearing everything and apparently you also heard me.k6jm: Thanks KE0OMT for the link to the multimode ZUMspot USB. Yes, it is similar to the DV4mini, but those have their own software and ecosystem. Thursday Night D-STAR Round Table. Join us on reflector XRF002A, XRF310A and XRF555A 7:00pm PDT weekly. You can find the shout box show notes on D-STAR Round Table Board Shoutbox History  k6jm: What's your cat's callsign? k6jm: KE0OMT reported "the registration process almost made me loose interest in D-Star. It took me 9 Weeks to get registered...." I am Gateway Admin for W6CX and try to process registrations within 24 hours, often much faster. Takes me abt 1 min to validate. k6jm: The REGIST Gateway is also said to process requests quickly. But as we've said on the RT, you only need to register to use REF reflectors (XRF & DCS don't require registration) and use ICOM GW callsign routing. So while waiting, hams can still use D-Star. k6jm: Another fact about registration -- in the early days of D-Star, Admins asked hams to register at their closest repeater/gateway to help spread the administrative load, no technical reason. I process requests from any and everywhere. Doesn't matter to DStar K6KD: kc9sio - pretty funny. Mike N6HKH also has a cat. She does not use the shout box but instead enjoys chewing cables on his radios. He thinks she's trying to get him off the radio to give her more attention. kg4nwe: Is XLX212 XRF212 Dstar or DMR only? The info page says DMR only but Im not sure what that means, haha! I know it means DMR only but is it connected to Dstar or another REF or Constallation? kg4nwe: yep, didnt realize im three days late for this conversation! lol whoops K6KD: kg4nwe XLX212 is DMR only, D-STAR ports not open. Two reasons: 1) Provide a balance to all the D-STAR only modules on 002, 310, and 555. 2) With no transcoding, confusing if both modes allowed. BTW - XLX313 is both D-STAR and DMR with transcoding. K6KD: XLX212 is standalone, not linked. FYI in addition to all mod A linked, 313B linked to XRF006A (not XLX006) linked to 310B, 313C linked to 555C, and 313D linked to 310D kg4nwe: It's almost net time!! M7MIG/VK6MIG: Lots of R2D2 on www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/23224/web too! wb5eku: M7MIG, are you still hearing R2D2? M7MIG/VK6MIG: Last over was cleank6jm: Got a request to register a Romanian ham on D-Star. In researching him, I found this article: www.radioamator.ro/articole/view.php?id=1038, this ham and 5 others put up a UHF repeater on a mountaintop. Walked up with horses carrying gear. k6jm: Congratulations to the hams in Romania who were committed enough to set up that repeater, in spite of the hard work involved. Ham radio is alive and well!k6jm: Check www.dstar.info/query.html to see what the Trust Server database has for your callsign. Note there is a blacklist flag value shown. (Also, they recently changed IP addresses & you may need to clear cache to see this site.)kg4nwe: That is motivating..... Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome........ then get on the air! Congrats k6jm: Most common reason for blacklisting is a callsign that is bridging one REF reflector to another, creating a loop. They tend to take quick action on that. k6jm: Question -- Anyone on the Net been to Ham Radio in Friedrichshafen? I am thinking of going next summmer. I speak a little German, but super technical topics will be tough, vocabulary-wise. k6fed: www.dxmini.com/shop.html#/ k6fed: www.dxmini.com/#/ k6jm: DXMINI seems to be created by KG5UBV. Check his page on qrz.com. Nice qrz page and good sales website. Would be nice to know more.k6jm: I use wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp all the time. But I would not want a major data center running without anyone there. Disks begin to go bad, people monitor this stuff. Not just a server under your desk.... zl2ufi: Went to Ham Radio in Friedrichshafen in 2015. Found the forums in German or German and English or English only. Not being a German speaker some of the forums looked good but hard to understand. Enjoyed the experience. Smaller that Dayton but a lot cleaner. wb5eku: I would like to wish all on the net, worldwide a very Merry Christmas. k6jm: ZL2UFI - thanks for your comments about Ham Radio. I did not realize some forums are in English. I do speak some German so this may work out. Thanks again for the info. M7MIG/VK6MIG: Quick question - I seem to remember hearing about a DSTAR AMSAT bird being launched, but I haven't heard anything recently.. did that ever happen? k6jm: Reading the DXMINI Quick Start Guide, the product is clearly based on G4KLX MMDVM programs. But I see no reference to G4KLX or MMDVM per se. Given the MMDVM programs are Open Source with GPL Non-Commercial licensing, it makes one wonder.... zl2ufi: No problem. There is a program (free booklet you get) that tells of the forums and flags next to then for the languages. English only was on the Enigma code machines. Good luck if you go.

Snould be three or four forums on digital voice modes, plus the usual general interest programs. VE7LEE: My questions is, since we are now have multi mode digital nets now, show this net be open up to answer any digital questions involving other modes such as DMR, C4FM and other digital modes? VE7LEE: oops should be having. N6HKH: We discuss open source digital voice systems, including the "other digital modes." VA3TWT: Not wanting to poke the hornet's nest, but I think Peanut will be the death of D-Star. Now, any stable or unstable operator can use D-Star where as previous to the app the unstable operator would probably not make the investment in a D-Star radio.KE0OMT: I'm not able to make it in tonight, might be to far from my node... wanted to say though that the registration presses almost made me loose interest in D-Star. It took me 9 Weeks to get registered and 3 tries because of unresponsive repeater owners. KE0OMT: *Process kc9sio: VA3TWT, I can see both sides of this issue with Peanut, as well as the reasoning behind registration. To me, it involves keeping our networks secure. But there has to be some sort of balance here. I just don't know what that is.KG4NWE: I kindof fumbled on my turn on the net, I wanted to also mention that I haven't made the investment of dstar radio yet. But by being able to use peanut as a free"trial" I have decided to invest in the real thing. So maybe it does have value.

I keep all ports closed unless I am using them. VE7LEE: Peanut is list includes xref and dcs, with only one REF030C. VE7LEE: The admin of REF001 blocked me again :-( I hope the admin will unblock me so you can enjoy the REF001C again.I sent the admin of REF001 several emails but he does not respond to my email.New registration site : www.pa7lim.nl/peanut-request/See ok6jm: Why were there early failures using analog devices into DV? Remember the AMBE codec was designed assuming high quality analog input and does not deal well with high signal to noise sources. But usually radios are close to their DVAPs with good signals.wb5eku: This might be due to learning curves in the amateur digital voice world, mainly DStar. Coding and interfacing to the existing networks might have been an issue. VE7LEE: Does anybody know where you can get a Portable AMBE server? VE7LEE: Is Japan the only place to get a Portable AMBE server premade? I will be in Japan on Feb 28 and March 1st.VE7LEE: Is OpenVPN for the Rasberry Pi? VE7LEE: speedof.me is another one N6HKH: No - cell, computers, tablets, etc K6KD: OpenVPN clients: Windows XP or later, OS X 10.8 or later, Android 4.0 or later, iOS 6 or later, Linux *BSD VE7LEE: found it: medium.freecodecamp.org/running-your-own-openvpn-server-on-a-raspberry-pi-8b78043ccdeaVE7LEE: docs.pi-hole.net/ VE7LEE: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNS_sinkholeKE0OMT: Here is the radio I am talking about www.retevis.com/rt51. If a person would take a radio like this and link it with a AMBE Server they would not need a hotspot or a repeater to use the reflectors as long as they have cellular network. KE0OMT: For someone traveling this would make a great mobile setup.
