Our third and final dispatch comes from the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, where our host and D/C oboist James Austin Smith reports on a group of people creating a bright future for classical music in South Africa.

Our second summer dispatch brings us to Iceland, where D/C cellist Saeunn Thorsteinsdottir reports from the Við Djúpið Festival.  This week we’ve been collaborating with Daníel Bjarnason and three young composers as we work towards the premiere of several new pieces being performed at the festival.

In this inaugural edition of the D/C podcast three of our musicians, fresh from their trip to Mumbai, talk dosas, cricket and classical music in India as well as perform music of Maurice Ravel and Franz Schubert. The performances in India were sponsored by a US Department of State grant which presented the musicians as alumni members of Carnegie Hall and Juilliard’s Academy program – Ensemble ACJW.
