Hello and welcome to this latest episode of Design By:. This episode we are joined by Andrew and Mark O’Keefe brothers, designers and founding partners of brand and communications agency Studio Alto. We discuss working with family, growing a business and a shared love of Rayna James.

Have you ever given much thought to how playgrounds and parks are designed and how we relate and interact with these public spaces? This episode I’m joined by Kate Heissenbuttel and she shares with us her 20 years experience designing and planning these spaces. She sheds some interesting light on government process, public involvement and why these spaces are so important to a healthy society.

Happy new year to all and welcome back to the first design by episode of 2016! I’m joined by Amie Batalibasi. I first meet Amie not long after I moved to Footscray. I was looking for ways to contribute to the vibrant arts community and I chanced upon Colour Box Studio, an arts based non-for-profit that Amie founded and was running with the help of other passionate art practitioners and volunteers. Amie is also a documentary maker, media trainer and creative producer. We discuss arts funding, returning to study and the benefits of collaboration.

This episode I’m joined by design director Damian Kelly. A specialist in brand and packaging design Damian has worked for some pretty big agencies notably Landor which is a leading brand agency with offices all over the globe. They’re the guys that did the City of Melbourne re-brand a couple of years back. We discuss office culture, design ethics, working with big clients and my Uncle Bernie’s racehorse.

For my maiden voyage into the open water of the podcast seas I am joined by designer and emerging documentary filmmaker Marcus Cobbledick. We discuss the importance of mentors, knowing when to take advice and our thoughts on the (over) use of Gotham in theatrical posters.
