Getting More Traffic with Google+ – Podcast Episode #7
Digital Strategies for Small Business Podcast Episode #7
Hey everybody, today’s subject is getting more traffic with Google+.
First off, lets discuss why I am choosing google+. Did you know they now have over 1.1 BILLION users? This is not people telling each other what they had to eat or drink today… it is people sharing ideas, information and recommendations. The average G+ users spends almost 7 minutes a day… which isn’t a lot, but it is valuable when they are.
Obviously google likes its own properties, so links are good and so is having your profile there. If you haven’t setup authorship yet… this is the first step. If you need help, just call or email me.
How to do it:
Setup your account – Here is my profile if you want to be in my circle.
Find relevant communities (preferably larger groups)
Create your content that you plan to share. I like to share my dental blog posts, podcasts, images, etc.
Add content –
Make sure you write an engaging description of your content and link to it.
Always use images, preferably something eye catching. Think of who your audience is, and figure out what they would like to see.
Use hashtags. I need to be better at this too.
Make sure you are only sharing valuable content. Don’t spam.
Be active and share other people’s content too. If you want to become an authority, a good rule of thumb is try to share 2-3 pieces of content of other people for every 1 piece of content of your own. This shows you aren’t just selling your services.
Make sure you +1 and comment on other peoples shared content.
Bonus tip… rumor has it that sharing at 8:30am and 2:30p will get you the best results.
And that is today’s marketing thought.

Using PR To Get More Calls, More Clients, More Profit – Podcast Episode #6
Digital Strategies for Small Business Podcast Episode #6
Hey everybody,
A few important notes before we hit the podcast topic. Jason and I are going to try our best to increase the amount of podcasts we put out, and speed up the lag time in between them.
Currently, the plan is to do a “marketing” oriented thought for you to easily digest every couple of days. Sometimes this will be daily, sometimes 1x per week… but the goal is to give you quick and valuable information that you can apply to your practice/business quickly and easily.
If you don’t like the format, or have any other questions or concerns… please don’t hesitate to reach out to us or comment below.
Today I wanted to share a story I found in many sites on the web, but here is one of the websites: Original Story Here
It’s about how a doctor changed a young woman’s life, by working for free. Do you think the PR helped him to get more calls, more clients, more profit? I do. And I bet you will too once you hear this.
The doctor’s name is Dr. Wynand de Jeger, which I may or may not have mispronounced in the podcast. He helped a 20 year old girl named Alex Kerr who had been in a cycling accident that took out her front teeth.
What have you or your staff done lately to help grow your practice/business by giving back to the community?
This is a great PR story, and should make you think about how you can impact your community by doing something positive.
Hope you enjoy the quick podcast.

7 Productivity Tips Including Multitasking Test – Podcast Episode: #5
In our 5th episode of the Digital Strategies For Small Business Podcast, we discuss 7 productivity tips in 7 minutes, including a multitasking test that you are going to fail!!
Today’s Subject is 7 Productivity Tips In 7 Minutes
Tackle the hardest projects first each day.
Focus 25% of your day on the most important tasks for the day
This should never be more than 3 things
Use a task planner to lay out your weekly and daily goals
Create this every Friday so you come to work with a plan next week
Edit this on a daily basis (instead of getting on Social Media)
Make sure that you keep your priority goals on top each day
Assume each task will take longer than it should. It usually does and this allows time for the unexpected.
Bunch up similar activities when possible
Create Phone Jam times to handle all your calls
Deal with all emails all at once then get offline
Turn off “Email alerts”.
Work from zero inbox if possible. This means once you open an email, address it and clear it out if possible. Don’t leave it sitting in your inbox. If you can’t deal with it now, file it away and add it to future tasks lists.
Stop multitasking. This is never faster. Want proof? Time yourself doing this test. Start the clock and on one line write out the word multitasking and then on second line write a number under each letter of the word multitasking. So for this example, multitasking is 12 letters, so you would write in order 1-12. Stop the clock. Now, to see if your brain works better and faster as a multitasker do this. Start the clock and using two lines, write the word multitasking out again, but after you write each letter, write the corresponding number below it. So it would be M, then 1 below. Then U, then 2 below. And so on. If you are just as fast… you are a multitasker. If not… then stop trying to multitask. You are only slowing yourself down. This one tip can likely save at least 15-30 minutes of your time each day. And that adds up fast.

Digital Strategies For Small Business Podcast: Episode #4 – Getting More Traffic With Less in 2014
In our 4th episode of the Digital Strategies For Small Business Podcast, we discuss things you should do less of, in order to get more traffic in 2014.
Things To do Less of:
Keywords
o No keyword stuffing into your titles.
o No more stuffing keywords into your meta data.
o No keyword focused pages to trick google
o No more keywords in your footer links or other site wide anchors.
Link Building
o No more Spammy sites just for link building
o No more guest posting just for the sake of it
Sites need to be quality
Don’t use My blog guest
o No more public link exchanges
o Most directories are dead!
o Article submission sites are dead too
o Link wheels are getting caught… so be careful with these.
o Irrelevant links are bad
o So are site wide links
o No more Social bookmarking
o Limit your anchor text. Better off using your name, or website address these days.
Content
o No more short articles. 500 word articles get less. Use them for entertainment of your audience… not for SEO. Go for 2k or 3k words for SEO
o Images need to be optimized now. Alt text and image file names are a good place for relevant keywords.
o This has been dead for years, but don’t use invisible text either!
o Randomly linking to your old content just to have links. Make sure it is relevant.
So what should you be doing?
Content Marketing
o Quality matters. The game has changed on how google ranks sites, and much of it is now based on user engagement with your site. Make sure the content you deliver is engaging and share worthy.
o Get Social. Im not a huge fan of useless updates on social media pages… so I honestly don’t do as much as I should. But if you want to have success in 2014, you need to get social.
o You must “Market” your content. Don’t just write it and forget about it.
Tweet about your post
Post a link and image on Google Plus
Join relevant communities there
Post a link and image on FB
Post a link on your Linked In profile
Grab an image and post on image sharing sites like pinterest.
Depending on content… share on Stumble upon, reddit and tumblr
Send an email to friends, family and your list about the post.
Go back in your archives and find relevant posts… and then link to the new post from them.
Be Creative
o Find creative ways to build links
Outreach to relevant sites
Broken Link Building
Guest posting on relevant sites
Donate to charities that offer links
Infographics (still work…)
o Find out what content your users want
Use polls
Ask questions at the end of each post
o Try other media methods
Podcasting
Video Blogging
o Pretend Google doesn’t exist (gulp, the horror of that thought)
Improve your site everyday
o Fix coding issues
o Eliminate pages with no value
o Add content to thin pages
o Improve load times
o Add value

12 SEO Copywriting Tips That Yield Immediate Results – Podcast #2
Writing for the web requires a different approach when compared to writing for print. Here are some SEO copywriting tips to help you write better web copy that helps you rank better within the search engines.
Web copy is short and directly to the point with fewer words. Ideas are expressed in shorter paragraphs and shorter sentences. The big difference is in the use of keywords which are typically used as a central theme in the body of the copy, in the page headline and in the use of hyperlinks. The idea is that targeted keyword phrases are mixed into the marketing text for search engines to notice important phrases.
1. Keywords
The main keyword phrase should be used up at least 3 times. Once in the headline, once in the first paragraph and once in the anchor text that will be hyperlinked to another relevant page on your site. Secondary keywords should be used 1-2 times. Conversely, do not “stuff” your content with keywords and over-saturate your copy. Ultimately, your copy should make sense and be relevant.
2. Three seconds!
First impressions are critical. Internet users are active, not passive. It only takes 3 seconds to attract a reader. Users will immediately go away from your site if they don’t find what they’re looking for.
3. Plan of action
It’s a great idea to map out the sales process and then write the message that you want to send across.
4. State the benefits
Products are created with specific benefits and they’re often presented as features. In some cases, sold out benefits will do the selling of you products.
5. Get their attention
Upon landing in your webpage, your readers should immediately see your sales pitch, your offer and your order button. Grab the moment, don’t give them time to scroll down or switch pages.
6. Headline
The headline captures your reader’s attention. It gives idea of something worth discovering. It makes or breaks your effort of attracting readers. Make the headline captivating. It’s the powerful part of your text.
7. Moderate Amount of Text
A readable web page should have at least 300 words of text though, 400-word copy is much better. Slice your content into small paragraphs, bullet points, or an ordered list (like this article), so your readers can easily absorb it.
8. Easy to Read
Your SEO copy should be organized and presented in sub-headlines, lists, images, colors, italics and indented text.
9. Expect Questions
Give more emphasis on the benefits and answer the potential questions of your visitors such as “So, what’s in it for me?”, “What am I doing here?”, “How do I do it?”, and “Where can I go next?”.
10. Support what you say
Web visitors are intelligent, they can sense if you’re simply promoting something. To be more believable, you have to support you claims. Your sources need to be referenced.
11. Call to action.
Never end your message without asking them to action. State a single action for visitors to do. For example: Have questions? If you need answers call, email, or click on live chat or simply yet, directly stating it with “Buy now!”.
12. Start with an impact and finish with an impact
While you need to capture their attention upon landing, the battle isn’t over yet, not until you’ve finished it with an impact. In this case, you need to reserve the best at the beginning and the end. This is one of the most helpful SEO copywriting tips to remember when writing copies for the web.
