Old men are often said to have ”one foot in the grave” but those whose trust is wholly in Jesus Christ for time and eternity are not looking forward to the grave but to glory, for the Bible says that to be ”absent from the body” is to be ”present with the Lord”. At the age of 87, therefore, I have chosen this name for my new podcast which will feature videos of talks, comments and lectures about the Bible and science and also Bible expositions.

AUDIO; ADAM AND THE APPLE; DID ADAM AND EVE EXIST

This episode examines 1) whether Adam and Eve were historical individuals and 2) is the biblical account of the Fall true. It is somewhat technical, but before anyone dismisses this talk as having little spiritual content, let me point out that it addresses the largest spiriitual issue possible, namely the historicity of the Bible. So even if you consider yourself a technophobe, please try to stay with me as I survey (in a reader friendly way) scientific arguments from population genetics, the "10,000 ancestors" claim of evolution, and other arguments against the Bible's assertion that mankind began with a single specially created couple.

AUDIO; YOU CAN'T FIGHT GOD AND WIN (ESTHER 8)

Esther chapter 7 demonstrates in a striking way how God’s sovereignty works to fulfil His purposes both through His servants and independently through providential events. Here we see a fast-moving drama in which these two features of God's sovereignty operate simultaneously to crush Haman; Esther bravely denounces him and the Lord Himself directs the King's reactions and their precise timing in such a way that Haman cannot escape condemnation and execution. The chapter offers us the assurance that God’s purposes prevail..  You cannot fight God and win!

AUDIO; DEFENDING HIS APOSTLESHIP PAUL SETS STANDARDS FOR TODAY

Paul often had to defend his apostleship but only in 1 Corinthians 9 does he do so in a way that sets explicit timeless standards for churches and believers today. In particular he emphsises the importance of respect for authority, the need for a personal knowledge of Christ, the humility of genuine servants of God, the right of ministers to material support, and the fruitfulness of the gospel of God's grace.

AUDIO: JESUS; MAN, GOD OR BOTH?

This penetrating message explores John 1:1–18, answering the question, “Where did Jesus come from?” using five key points: Jesus as the eternal Word/Logos and Creator, the light, life and love he brings, the testimony of witnesses, the incarnation, and Jesus as the ultimate revelation of God’s nature, grace and truth. The sermon links John’s prologue with Genesis 1, highlights the Trinitarian nature of creation, and explains how Jesus’ incarnation reveals God’s heart toward humanity and salvation by grace alone through faith in Christ.

AUDIO; THE DAMASCUS ROAD, HOW PAUL LEARNED TO LOVE HIS ENEMIES

Paul stands before an angry crowd in Jerusalem, retelling his zealous past, his sudden conversion on the Damascus road, and the visions that called him to preach Christ. This episode shows how Paul learned to love his enemies and how Jesus confronts hatred and unites not only Jews and Gentiles but warring factions in all generation including our own. We learn about repentance, forgiveness, and the transforming power of personal testimony.

AUDIO; WHY THE CHURCH CAN'T BE JUST A HOBBY

The six verses in 1 Corinthians 1:26–31 provide profund insights into the spiritual nature of a local church and its members. A biblical local church is one composd of people who have been chosen by God, irresistably called to faith in Christ, and are "base" ... knowing they can do nothing to earn salvation so that the glory of their salvation belongs to Christ alone, who is our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.

AUDIO; IN A DIVIDED WORLD ONLY CHRIST UNITES

False accusations generate suspicion which in turn creates division, and our modern world is swamped by this phenomenon. Read any newspaper or watch any news broadcast! But it's not altogether new, for Acts 21:15–36 recounts how Paul’s arrival in Jerusalem caused a riot because he was falsely accused of crimes against the Jewish law and was only rescued from the mob by Roman soldiers.. The passage shows that only faith in Christ is capable of permanently uniting opposites. We also see how Paul, like his Master before him, risked his life to bring this message of unity to all peoples.

HOW PSALM 1 (OT) UNLOCKS ROMANS 12:1-2 (NT)

We can often explain obscure passages in the Old Testament by verses and statements in the New Testament. In other words, we read the Old Testament through the eyes of the New, as we should. But we may not appreciate that it's a two-way road. Not only can we understand difficult and obscure things in the Old Testament by appeal to the New but there are occasions when things taught in the New Testament can be amplified and even clarified by passages in the Old, demonstrating that Old and New Testaments are all the Word of God. Here we illustrate how an Old Testament passage helps us understand the full implications of a New Testament passage, reading Romans 12:1–2 through the eyes of Psalm 1.

AUDIO; BIBLE PROPHECY IS ALWAYS RELIABLE

Can we believe everything foretold in the Bible? Yes, because a large proportion of Bible prophecies have already been fulfilled in recorded history. Old Testament prophecies written hundreds of years before Jesus was born were accurately fulfilled in the Person and saving work of Christ. In this episode we see the same pattern of fulfillment in four NT prophecies made before the events foretold (Acts 21; warnings at Tyre, the silence of Philip’s daughters, and byAgabus). It is important to distinguish between "prophecy" that gives us encouragement in the present (like Philip's daughters and which continues today) and prophecy that foretells the future (which is found only in the Bible and ceased once the Scripures were complete, containing all we need to know of God's plans  for the future.

AUDIO; GROW IN THE KNOWELEDGE OF CHRIST

Christians often feel that they know everything there is to know about Christ, but the Apostle Peter disagrees. He says we must not be static in this matter but "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ"(2 Pet. 3:18). This episode will help us experience this growth by considering the profound union with the triune God and with one another brought about by the incarnation of Christ ... "Emmanuel, God with us".

AUDIO; THE SOWER PART 2; WEEDS OR WHEAT?

This episode completes a two-part study of the Parable of the Sower, emphasizing that the Holy Spirit alone brings true spiritual fruit. We briefly review the first two soils—wayside and rocky, showing why each fails to sustain the seed, and here consider the two remaining soils—weed-infested and well prepared ('good'). We use the parable of the great banquet to illustrate how loving such things as possessions, ambition, and even family, in preference to loving God, chokes the gospel seed and produces nominal rather than true Christians. The episode closes with a promise that the gospel sown in receptive hearts yields a guaranteed harvest consistent with God’s sovereign purpose

AUDIO; ONE SOWER, FOUR SOILS

The Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13) Part one. Although thousands of faithful preachers proclaim the gospel, the Holy Spirit is the ultimate sower of the gospel seed. Paul tells the Corinthians "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase". We also learn why some reject the gospel outright or fall away under trial. Practical takeaways include recognizing spiritual opposition, the need for deep roots through the indwelling Spirit, and the promise of living water that sustains believers through drought. The exposition will conclude in Part two which will consider the thorns and the good soil.

AUDIO; NEW YEAR OR NEW FEAR? CHRIST'S ADVICE FOR HARD TIMES

We rightly celebrate the New Year but in our present chaotic world it will bring new fears that things will get worse rather than better. Jesus' teaching in Matthew 24 is set against a similar backdrop of global unrest—wars, deception, persecution, pestilence, and rising lawlessness. In this episode Chris Boraston examines Jesus' advice to his disciples on how to survive hard times; beware deceivers, don’t be alarmed, expect and prepare for persecution, resist lawlessness by loving others, and keep the long-term focus on God’s kingdom, both preached and possessed.

AUDIO; NEW YEAR RESOLUTION? IMITATE CHRIST

After a shortened reading, we review Paul's farewell message to the Ephesian Elders, reminding them how he had conducted himself during his three year ministry among them. In doing so he provides us with an outstanding role-model for Christian service and living, a model based firmly on the life and ministry of Christ himself. "Be followers of me" he says elsewhere, "as I am of Christ".

AUDIO; GOD TURNS SINNERS INTO SAINTS; A NEW YEAR MEDITATION

We celebrate the New Year but far better is the celebration of new life described by Paul; "If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has passed away behold the new has come." The sermon based on 1 cor. 6:11, explains the threefold work of the Holy Spirit by which sinners are transformed into saints (or true believers). They are washed (regenerated), sanctified (set apart), and justified (decreed righteous in His sight) bringing them into a new relationship with God and the assurance of belonging to Him through faith in Christ

AUDIO; CHRIST FULFILS OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY; A CHRISTMAS MEDITATION PART 2

Apologies for brief audio gap at 16min 30sec This is part two of our Christmas Meditation and continues the theme of Christ's fulfilment of old testament prophecy but with emphasis on those scriptures that predicted his person and nature, namely his virgin birth, hid deity, his atoneing death and hiss exaltation to be King of kings and LORD of lords. We examine verses from Micah, Daniel and Isaiah.

AUDIO; WHO WAS JESUS OF NAZARETH? A CHRISTMAS MEDITATION

Please note that "quotes" in final section are verse extracts strung together The author C. S. Lewis posed a trilemma which can be rendered, "Jesus was either mad, bad or God". He further argued, as we do here, that Jesus' unique moral teaching ruled out the first two alternatives. In this reading from the book "What is Man? Adam, alien or ape?" we examine the meaning of Christmas by focusing on Jesus of Nazareth as the "Second Adam". We survey both the claims of skeptics and the historical evidence that the Bible is historically reliable and that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the incarnate Son of God who came into the world to save sinners and bestow on them eterrnal life

AUDIO; ATTACKED FROM EVERY SIDE, CHRIST'S GOSPEL STILL PREVAILS

Acts 19:21–41. Pursuing his gospel ministry, Paul came under attack in Ephesus from the Jews who resented his preaching to the Gentiles, from the devotees of the pagan god Artemis (aka Diana) and from the silversmiths who grew rich selling images of Artemis. Arriving in Jerusalem he came under attack from the Jews in the temple and was arrested by the Roman authorities and eventually sent to Rome in chains. But through all these things the gospel prospered, many churches were planted and thousands came to faith in Christ. Encouragement here for us today!

AUDIO; THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT CHANGED THE WORLD

If you made an unfulfilled promise, how long would it be before you forgot it altogether? A month? A year? But God made a promise to Eve and repeated it through the ages to Abraham, Job, Moses, David, the Prophets and to John the Baptist. Now, in the fulness of time, He announces to Mary its impending fulfilment in the birth of Christ. It was an announcement that would change the world.

AUDIO; ESTHER AND THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD

This episode is not the next in-depth exposition in the Book of Esther (that will come later) but a survey of the chapters (one to six) we have expounded over recent months.  A Christian family visiting our church from overseas turned out to know nothing about the Book of Esther, so instead of expounding the next section as I had planned, I gave an impromptu and unprepared review of the six chapters we have already covered. Some who have followed the series also found the review helpful. NOTE; if you download this episode before I have time to remove the AI transcript, which can only be done after publication, please ignore the many obvious errors in it.
