Below is last week's (WEP 04) presentation transcript.
WEP 04 transcript ("sport contests I've taken part in"):
"Today I’m going to talk about how important contests are when practicing a sport. (another name for “contest” is “championship”)
As a kid I was very sporty (and still am), but between then and now, I’ve changed the way I perceive competitive sport.
Back then, I practiced both individual, as well as, team sports. For example, Judo was my favorite individual sport. As my judo skills improved, I was invited to participate in Inter-club contests to represent my club. I recall going to a contest where I was the youngest participant of them all and on that occasion, I felt a little bit intimidated by my opponents’ age. I knew I was well prepared, but as I began to lose matches I realized my preparation wasn’t enough.
In the end, having lost every single match, and with my ego down to the floor, I looked on the bright side and realized I had gained a lot of experience competing with my elderly opponents.
Since then, I’ve looked at sport events as an opportunity to gain experience, not only at individual sports, but also at team sports, like soccer.
As a teenager I had been playing in different local soccer teams for a while, when a manager offered me a spot in his regional team. At that time I saw it as an opportunity to grow and learn from the experience and accepted the offer.
It wasn’t long before I realized that the higher you go in a championship, the less opportunities you have to learn and the more opportunities you have to get injured. During my first official match with my new team, the opponent team decided to knock me off the pitch in order to win the match.
As a result, not only did we lose the match, but it also meant the end of my soccer career. I was so badly injured at my ankle, that I had to stay at home for three months.
As a whole, I’ve realized that both individual and team sports are fun when you don’t have the urge of winning. Otherwise it can become a nightmare.
Thank you very much for your attention.

WEP 03 transcript ("helping the environment"):
"Today I’m going to talk about things I’ve done to help the environment.
It was back in 1996 when I was looking through the list of local associations that I found ARBA, a tree-planting association. It struck me that other people apart from me cared about the environment and specifically about trees, so I got in touch with them. At first, I was a bit disappointed when I saw that everybody was much older than me. But then, my curiosity overcame my disappointment, and I started to actively take part in their activities.
After several months at the association, I learned that it isn’t an easy job to plant trees, and even less to take care of them. You have to dedicate a lot of your free time to them and I didn’t have that much free time. So I quit planting trees.
Moving on, before I even thought about planting trees, I was already engaged with waste sorting, which is another environmentally friendly activity. It all began at home when I had the duty of taking out the rubbish. I soon realized it was a tedious job to go out in the wind, rain and cold during the winter, so I decided to optimize the number of times per week I had to take out the rubbish. At the time, waste sorting wasn’t a thing, but it popped into my mind that if you have a big bag for big rubbish and a small bag for small rubbish, you can optimize the space in the bags. It turned out to be a success, and I only had to take out the rubbish twice or three times a week instead of nearly every day.
Wrapping it up, if you care about the environment, there are plenty of things you can do to help the planet. For example, if you have a lot of time you can plant trees and if you don’t have that much time, you can simply sort your waste out into big and small bags.
Thank you very much for your attention.
If you have any questions, leave them in the comments box below."
