For much greater detail, see the YouTube video of the same title. This episode the Peloponnesians gather together to decide on the matter of war. The Spartans then send their final demands followed by their ultimatum to the Athenians. Pericles takes a firm stance in Athens against any concessions and against Sparta. War is settled upon by both sides.

The Athenians initiate the next crisis, forcing a revolt from Potidaea. This leads to the Macedonians and Corinthians getting involved and eventually Sparta is compelled to intervene after the Athenians besiege Potidaea.

A bonus episode on the Crisis of 400 in Constantinople during the Late Roman Empire. Involving Gaïnas and Fravitta (two Roman barbarians) as well as Emperor Arcadius, Empress Eudoxia, and several other lesser individuals a little bit of background information.

The pathway to war between Sparta and Athens is paved in this episode as an incident in distant Epidamnus escalates to violence between Corcyra and Corinth. The Athenians then stick their mighty head in and hell begins to break loose in Hellas (Greece). 

A lot happens this episode. Athens continues to butt heads with everyone, including Persia, Sparta, Corinth, Epidauros, Aegina, and many others. Towards the beginning of the time frame of this episode the Athenian boldly agree to an Egyptian Expedition to try and assist a rebellion in Persian Egypt. Many isolated conflicts take place across Hellas (Greece) as well, leading to the end of the Pentekontaetia (ca. 435 BCE) and the beginning of the Disputes of Epidamnus and Corcyra that kick off the political turmoil that eventually causes the Peloponnesian War, 431-404 BCE.

This episode covers the first stage of the Pentekontaetia (i.e. fifty year period) which stretched from 479-435 BCE. Yes, the dating doesn't exactly line up but that doesn't much matter. In this first stage Athens forms its Delian League and within fifteen years of its formation in 478 BCE the Delian League was clearly an Athenian Empire; this, and many other reasons detailed in the episode, made Athens the ire of most of Hellas (and not because of jealousy). This first part of the story of the Pentekontaetia period is instrumental to the beginning of the Peloponnesian War for it brought Athens and Sparta into great contention. 

Similar to the previous episode on Athens, this episode covers the formation of the unique Spartan state. The episode also closes with details on the forever famous historian, Thucydides of Athens, who wrote the History of the Peloponnesian War. 

As an introduction to the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BCE) I introduce Ancient Athens, from its early mythical origins to the formation of the Delian League and the initiation of the Periclean Building Program in the mid to late fifth century BCE. The next episode will cover Ancient Sparta and the historian Thucydides. 

The second, and final, part of the interview with Nick and Grant from the People's History Hour with Grant Neal and Nick Goodell. This second part begins right after the death, by beating, of Tiberius Gracchus and continues onwards to cover the attempted reforms of Gaius Gracchus (123-22 BCE). I conclude the episode by giving a quick outline of the reforms of Gaius Marius (the Marian Reforms, ca. 107 BCE)

Part one of an interview I had with Nick Goodell and Grant Neal from their radio broadcast on 104.5 WRFU Urbana, Illinois entitled "People's History Hour with Grant Neal and Nick Goodell."  The Agricultural-Military Crisis of the Roman Republic took place at the end of the second century BCE. This famously included the political turmoil involving the Gracchi Brothers, Tiberius and Gaius. In this first part of the interview we outline the Crisis itself and what happened with Tiberius Gracchus in 133 and 132 BCE.

Letters 6-10, the rest of which will be recorded and up on the YouTube channel 'Everything History Podcast.' Seneca wrote a total of 124 separate letters. 

The first five of Seneca's letters to the young Lucilius. They come from the first century (CE) and contain a plethora of life lessons from the Stoic philosopher Seneca the Younger.

The final reading from Victor's Liber de Caesaribus, sections 41 and 42. 

Second to last episode of the reading of Liber de Caesaribus that covers sections 38-40. Victor is now coming near his own time period, the mid-fourth century, and begins to dispense more information accordingly. 

This episode extends from section 29 of De Caesaribus to section 37.

The first of a few short readings from Sextus Aurelius Victor's Liber de Caesaribus. This episode, part one, contains the first eight sections of his book. The book is an abbreviated history of each Caesar (emperor) and therefore these first eight sections cover the first eight emperors of Rome from Augustus Caesar to the Vitellius.
