Episode 21: The Bible: Fables or Facts? Part 5 - Can God REALLY hear us?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Bearing in mind the size of the universe, and the number and tiny scale of humans on earth, it may seem implausible that God can hear our prayers and share our thoughts. But what can we learn from science, in particular the modern monitoring of aircraft engines in flight? What we mere humans can achieve throws a new light on the capabilities of our great creator.

Episode 20: The Bible - Fables or Facts? Look to the skies!
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Modern science estimates that the Universe is 93 billion light years in diameter. The Bible claims it was all created by God. Is this credible? In this episode, we explore how the physical properties of the universe and our planet were accurately described in the Hebrew scriptures long before they were discovered by science. What conclusion can we draw from this?
The scriptures quoted in this episode are all listed on our website, www.faithintheforest.com, along with links to a variety of online bibles.

Episode 19: The Bible, Fables or Facts? Part 3: a modern Genesis 1
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
If Moses were to write down the book of Genesis 1 now, relying solely on modern scientific evidence, would it contradict the biblical account? Here we explore fossil and geological records and compare them with the original scriptures, with interesting results.

Episode 18: The Bible - Fables or Facts? Part 2 - Creation
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Continuing our investigation into whether the Bible and science contradict or confirm one another. In this episode, we look at the work of eminent scientist Dr. E K Victor Pearce, who claims the two can be completely reconciled. So does Genesis follow the same timetable for creation as the modern understanding of science suggests?

Episode 17: The Bible - Fables or Facts? Part 1
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
If the Bible is the word of God, it should be provably accurate, with no one part contradicting another. However, it consists of 66 smaller books penned by around 40 fallible humans. Bearing this in mind, can we really expect the Bible to stand up to close scrutiny?
This survey starts with the water cycle - 'discovered' by humans 400 years ago, yet clearly described 3,100 years before that in the book of Job...
Scriptures used in this episode:
2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16 and 17; Job 36:27 and 28; Job 26:8; Amos 9:6; Ecclesiastes 1:7

Episode 16: How should we pray?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Many of us have been brought up with familiar prayers which we can repeat by heart. Foremost, probably, is the 'model' prayer which Jesus shared with us - the 'Lord's Prayer' or 'Our Father'. But how did Jesus expect us to use it? Verbatim? Or personalised? As a group or in our own private space? This episode explores these questions and finds the answers contained in the Bible.
Scriptures used in this episode are:
Matthew 6:7; Psalm 37:4 and 5; John 17:3; 1 Peter 5:7; Matthew 6: 6 and 8; Acts 17:27; Isaiah 42:8; 1 John 5:14; John 14:6

Episode 15: Can God really protect us from evil?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Continuing the survey of the Lord's Prayer (or 'Our Father') we have reached 'Deliver us from evil'. This raises many questions. What is evil? Where does it come from? Can it effect us even if we believe we're living a careful life? What can it lead to? And how can we be protected from it?
The scriptures used in this episode are:
Matthew 6:13; John 8: 44; Ezekial 28:12(b), 13, 15, 16, and 17; 2 Corinthians 11: 14; Isaiah 8: 19 to 22; Timothy 2: 25(b) and 26; Psalm 119: 105 and 130; Romans 12: 21; James 4: 7 and 8; 1 Peter 5:8 and 9; Romans 12:17 and 19; Isaiah 41:10

Episode 14: When temptation beckons, who do you call?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
As we examine the next line in the Lord's Prayer (or Our Father), we touch on the subject of temptation. It proved the undoing of the original human couple, and it's still out there and stalking us to this day. Is it a trial from God? Does he actually lead us into it? If it's not God, then who? God's own son, Jesus, was a target at one point, so how are we mere humans to resist it? This episode examines all these questions and more, along with the answers which give hope and relief to all who feel pulled in the wrong direction, be it in minor or major ways.
Scriptures used in this episode:
Matthew 6: 13; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Joshua 24:15; Genesis 3:6; Matthew 4:3, 4 and 13;
James 1:13; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 John 2:16-17;

Episode 13: Does God forgive - and forget?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
In this episode we look at the next line from the Lord's Prayer or 'Our Father':
"Forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us".
We are imperfect humans, so it is inevitable that we will make errors - or 'trespass' into wrong doing - during our lives. But can God forgive us for these transgressions? And if so, does he not only forgive but also forget them, and wipe the slate clean? What do we need to do in order to receive his forgiveness? In addition to forgiving others, is it possible to forgive ourselves for the errors we have made? Many carry their guilt round like heavy luggage throughout their lives.
The scriptures quoted in this episode are:
Matthew 6: 9: Romans 2: 14-15; Isaiah 30: 21; Titus 1: 15-16; John 16: 2; Psalm 86:5; 1 John 1: 9; Jeremiah 31: 34; Isaiah 55: 7; Matthew 18: 35

Episode 12: Our daily bread. Food for thought.
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Continuing our study of the Lord's Prayer or Our Father, we come to the line "Give us this day our daily bread". So much can be gleaned from those seven words! Whatever our circumstances, the scriptures it raises bring great comfort and common-sense advice from our loving Father. And he assures us that, if we put Him first in our lives, he will care for our needs.
Bible references for this episode are:
Matthew 6: 11, Matthew 6:25, Luke 12:30, Proverbs 30:8, Hebrews 13:5, Isaiah 41:13, Matthew 10:29-31, Matthew 6:26-29, Luke 11:9

Episode 11: God's government. What is in his manifesto?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Many pray "Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." What are we praying for exactly?
All worldly governments publish manifestos of what they intend to do once elected. God's kingdom, or government, is no exception. However, he WILL do what he promises! God's rulership will last forever, replacing all failed human attempts at government here on earth.
All the indications are that we are nearing the time when God will finally step in. So what can we look forward to? This episode takes us through God's manifesto step by step, including how he will eliminate war and violence, environmental damage, hunger, poverty and homelessness, sickness, disability and death. How can we indicate that we side with God?
Bible verses used: Matthew 6: 10, Genesis 2, 15 onwards, Genesis 1, 31, Isaiah 46:10, Daniel 2:44, Isaiah 2:4, Psalm 37: 9, Isaiah 9:7, 11, Revelation 11: 18 (end) , Isaiah 35:6, Revelation 7:16, Micah 4:4, Isaiah 65: 21-22, Revelation 21:4, Isaiah 35: 5-6, John 5: 28-29, John 13:35

Episode 10: When will God's Kingdom come?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Jesus listed all the events which would precede the arrival of God's Kingdom. The last one, in particular, has only recently become possible. So what does this mean for us? The end of the world or the end of suffering? And if so, when?
06:27
Episode 9: Who is Satan? And can he be conquered?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
We discussed in the previous episode that the bible says the whole world currently lies in the control of Satan the Devil. What do we know about him? And will he always be in charge?
04:12
Episode 8: Who's controlling the earth: God or ...?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
In Jesus' famous model prayer, we ask for God's Kingdom to come. But what exactly does that mean? Isn't he ruling on earth already? And if not, who is? The answer the bible supplies comes as a great surprise to many.
04:18
Episode 6: Who IS our father in heaven?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Many know the words of 'The Lord's Prayer' - in fact, so well, that they can recite them without actually thinking about what is being said. In the next few episodes, we'll examine the prayer line by line. We start with 'Our Father, who art in heaven...' (to use the older version). This prayer was brought to us by God's son, Jesus Christ. Yet he didn't say 'MY Father who is in heaven' so we can obviously view him as a father figure ourselves. But who exactly is he?

5: God's data storage system?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Deoxyribonucleic acid - a word to conjure with - or DNA for short. This structure, only recently understood and decoded, is acclaimed as the most powerful data storage system by a long, long way. So what place does it have in our quest for God? Did he design in? And does he intend to use it for something truly staggering in the future?
04:55
Episode 4: Do God’s fingerprints show in nature?
Episode in
Faith in the Forest
Pursuing our quest for evidence of a divine creator, this episode examines the wonderful and astonishing pattern discovered by Fibonacci. It appears in science (biology, physics and chemistry), music (in the layout of the keys and the overall structure of masterpieces), art, and all around us in nature - even in the cosmos! Coincidence, or godly design?
