008 - Joe Walko of The Unofficial Guide to Fatherhood

Joe Walko is a full time widowed parent to two beautiful but challenging boys, now unemployed by choice after a 25-year career in corporate finance. He is a writer and blogger searching for his voice, a seeker of his truth, a nature and adventure junkie discovering whole new worlds and beauty in the glorious struggle, in the ordinary, in his own backyard, and mostly, in his heart. Joe has a tremendous story to share, but it's not without grief.  When his wife of 19 years passed away from cancer, it forced him to look at fatherhood through a completely different light and gave him a completely new perspective on all the things his wife had done that he had only just discovered. During that time, he had to re-prioritize his entire life based on what was truly important to him, which was his family. He found the best way to get through his grief was to share about it.  To that end, he's written or contributed to several books, The Unofficial Guide to Fatherhood and Evening's Light, A Journey with Grief. Joe's also an avid outdoorsman and has created blogs for many of his adventures. Question FROM previous Guest, Richard Rierson - When your kid is spreading their wings and leaving the nest for good, what life lessons do you want to leave with your kid? Joe's question FOR our next Guest, Tom Dowd - How does he set his priorities? What goes through their thought processes and what their trying to accomplish by setting those priorities? 007: Bill Wissore for Father's Day 2015

Stories From My Dad for Father's Day 2015 This week, I was able to sit down with the best Dad, in my opinion, Bill Wissore.  I was able to ask him to share some of the stories about his past, about my grandfather, and hear some stories about my great grandfather as well.  It's amazing to hear them and realize just how different the country and culture was not so long ago. From my great grandfather's expeditions with a career in the train yard, to my grandfather's journey as a "gentleman farmer" trying to make a difference in the lives of those around him, up to some of the challenges my dad sees as he runs a homeless shelter in rural Texas. My folks have been married for nearly 50 years, my grandparents were married for over 50 years, and my great grandparents were as well.  Between them all, they had 8 children and a lot of experience as fathers.  Dad talks about how things were when he grew up and pulls back the curtains a bit on how each of us have tried to have a positive impact on each generation and those around them. Dad was even the "Man of the Year" in Cleburne, TX for 2014, but he doesn't like to brag - so I will. :) I hope you enjoy this different episode as much as I did recording it and I'd encourage you to sit down and learn a little bit about your family's history at the same time. 004 - Kurt Mortensen of Maximize Your Influence

Learning About Persuasion From A Guru Kurt Mortensen is one of America’s leading authorities on persuasion, negotiation and influence. Kurt has spent 15 years researching persuasion, negotiation and motivational psychology. Kurt is the author of three books; Persuasion IQ, The Laws of Charisma and the best-selling book Maximum Influence.  He also co-hosts, alongside Steve Olson, the weekly Maximize Your Influence podcast, which is one of my must-listen-to shows and if you listen to it, you'll understand why. He grew up in CA, has four children, and loves the outdoors. Over the years, Kurt has delivered hundreds of keynotes and workshops nationwide with people from all over the world. He discovered all people desire to succeed but many times fall short of their goals. As a result, Kurt uncovered all the crucial elements for the formula of success and wealth that will ultimately help people achieve their goals for success. Kurt Defines Integrity "There's no hidden agenda, you're there to help people, serve people.  People know who you are. There's no surprises." What does Kurt do when working towards work-life balance? He feels we need to be aware that, first, we need to get some balance, second, accepting that we might never be perfect, and finally, as Jim Rohn said "Wherever you are, be there." Question FROM Previous Guest, Paul Smith What sort of persuasion techniques are the best to use with your children?
