Episode 27 – 6 Dangerous Trends of Social Media, with Darko Botic
Episode in
????????for?????
This episode is a bit different. I had solo episodes before, but this one felt like a relatively new experience because I tackled a topic and ranted about it. I talked about lack of responsibility of certain popular trends and personas on Social Media platforms. I reflected on six major points that stood out to me, not only as my pet peeves but also as trends that I objectively see as potentially harmful or, at the very least, utterly ridiculous and useless.
These are:
Predominantly younger women who are pretending to care about self-love and healthy body-image while demonstrating nothing but vanity.
Celebrities who are promoting fad diets.
Dieting industry and “life coaches” hiding diets and selling them under “holistic” and “wellness” buzz terms.
A celebration of body transformation without any context
People who have lost a lot of weight (yup).
Hashtag trends such as #flexfriday, #transformationtuesday, etc.
I hope you enjoy it, and I would love if it engages us into further dialogue. Especially if you disagree with my opinions.
Thank you, and I wish you all an amazing New Year!

2x per month “Education” Skype calls (30 minutes) where I’m answering your questions in detail, making necessary re-adjustments, and teaching you some pretty cool stuff on nutrition, exercising, and behaviours. Or we can just chat about Blade Runner, Star Wars, and pop-culture in general.

1x per month Skype call (60-90 minutes) where we’re developing a next 4-week stage.
Eating guidelines and custom monthly workout/activity plan based on your preferences and schedule.
Personal Trainers and Fitpros:
Some of the most common difficulties that personal trainers are struggling with their clients who are are battling obesity are:
Feeling unable to fully help when their clients’ cognitive issues that come with eating disorders (e.g. binge eating) prevent them from adherence
Proper handling of under-reporting of caloric intake and resolving the issue long-term
Lack of visible and measurable progression
The difficulty of getting their clients to keep coming back to the gym regularly
Being unable to motivate an obese client for a change
The feeling of inadequacy to improve their clients’ body image
Lack of deeper understanding and communication with the clients and their internal battles
Loss of consistency and eventually loss of communication
So if you are directly involved in helping others with obesity let me just briefly explain – my consulting looks something like this:
We schedule a video call or a live meeting in the area of Berkshire.
Before we meet, your only task is to prepare all the details about the client that you can share.
We will go through every single question you have regarding the difficulties you are facing with your client and aspects that you think could improve.
We then proceed with an overview of certain inevitable obstacles and how you can approach them.
I help you get a deeper understanding of what all of their current issues are, how they truly feel, and what you can expect in the future work.
I don’t, however, work with just anyone.
I work with trainers and fitness professionals who are trying to help people with full comprehension of their struggles.
You need to be willing to learn and be open-minded because I will challenge your thoughts and opinions on obesity and mental issues that come with it.
I will not be able to help you if you are not willing to invest more time, effort, patience, and readjust and innovate your approach to coaching people with obesity and morbid obesity.
Simply – I work exclusively with good people.

Episode in

I had tremendous fun and pleasure hosting two of my favourite people ever. The episode at hand is Patrick Umphrey’s second appearance on this podcast, and Steve Troutman’s first appearance – well – ever on any podcast. I gave them the mic to introduce themselves, but I would only like to add that you should consider joining both o their Facebook groups if you aim to improve your fitness and health. We talked about Maintenance, the fear of slowing down the rate of weight loss, the anticipation of certain outcomes, never-ending deficits, dieting strategies, fitness goals, mental aspects of getting out of obesity, improving mindset of progress etc.
Topics we discussed:
Maintenance, the fear of slowing down the rate of weight loss, the anticipation of specific outcomes, never-ending deficits, dieting strategies, fitness goals, mental aspects of getting out of obesity, improving mindset of progress etc.

Episode 25 – Establishing the Right Mindset, with Mike Howard
Episode in
????????for?????
Before you start playing the episode, I just wanted to acknowledge the not-so-good sound quality of the following episode and apologise for it.
The introduction was brief because I just moved to England into an unfurnished new apartment, and there is zero soundproofing in all of our rooms here.
However, when I recorded the conversation with Mike Howard, I was also in a similar position, in Sweden. I was in the process of moving, and I was recording it an empty kitchen.
So, there you have it.
I hope that hearing echo and background noise from time to time won’t put you off from listening to the dialogue I had with one of my favourite people in the realm of fitness.
Mike is such an awesome dude, and I had a blast talking to him.
Hope you understand and hope you enjoy it and get something valuable out of it. Thank you all, and have a terrific day.

Episode 24 – Obesity, Anorexia, and Mental Health, with Pollyanna Hale
Episode in
????????for?????
The following conversation with wonderful and amazing Polly Hale is one of those which vividly remind me why it’s important to discuss issues pertaining to mental health in the context of weight gain, weight loss, dieting culture, and body image. The dialogue between the two us is highly important and relevant to my mission of helping you change and motivate you to address your struggles without being afraid to seek help.
My discussion with Polly was recorded during the Mental Health Awareness Week, but due to the reasons I mentioned in the previous filler episode, I failed to broadcast it on time.
I believe that our discussion on mental health, body image issues and severe eating disorders are significant enough regardless of the timeline, and I hope you’ll enjoy a very candid and transparent dialogue between a former anorexic and morbidly obese individuals.
Thank you for your time, and have a wonderful week!

Episode 23 – My Story – I’m Back, and Why I Took a Break from Podcasting and Coaching
Episode in
????????for?????
Hello, hello!
I am finally back and in this shorter episode, which you can consider as an introductory episode to the proverbial second season of The Man Who Lost 200 lbs, I openly and candidly talk about the reasons why I had to take a break from podcasting and coaching, why I decided to return, and what was going on in my life in the meantime.
I also talk about the return to online coaching and I’m providing all the information about my service.

Episode 22 – Rebroadcast – Depression, Body Image and Stigma, with Matt Stranberg
Episode in
????????for?????
As an introduction to my third big conversation with Matt Stranberg, I decided to rebroadcast the previous two as this, and next week’s episodes.
I can only admit that one of the reasons was also the fact that I’m contemplating recalibration of this podcast. I will still talk about obesity, but I am going to broaden the horizon of potential guests and topics of future conversations, instead of sticking to a spectrum of fitness. I also want to include shorter solo episodes, in which I’ll talk about other subjects that are directly or closely related to mental health.
I’m hoping you’ll appreciate my transparency and that you’ll understand. I will discuss this decision, and my future, with more depth shortly.
Welcome to another episode of The Man Who Lost 200 lbs Podcast, in which I’m continuing a conversation with Matt Stranberg, from two weeks ago.
In the first episode, Matt helps us develop a better understanding of many subjects related to Eating Disorder, which we’ll touch upon again in this one.
However, this week’s episode will be a bit longer, mainly because I was very interested in Matt’s take on other topics as well. Equally essential issues, I’m sure you’ll agree.
We covered: depression in the context of obesity in a much broader sense; I asked Matt about his personal experience with patients who suffer from both these conditions. We also delved deeper into body-image disorders and stigmatisation of obesity, and we concluded the discussion by reflecting on media, celebrities, and social-media propaganda and their outlook on obesity and influence on body-image in general.
I hope you’ll get some value out of it, and please, I implore you, if you need help, or just want to chat, send me a message, my contacts are in the show notes. And I will also add that same goes for Matt as well.
Thank you and enjoy.

I can only hope you’ll appreciate my transparency and that you’ll understand. I will discuss this decision, and my future, with more depth shortly.
Regarding this week’s episode, as I said, it’s the rebroadcast of Part 1 of my interview with Matt Stranberg, on incredibly important and complex topic of eating disorders and disordered eating.
As Matt says himself, eating disorder is a subject that’s not very known and popular; thus it’s often viewed through stigma and prejudice.
Matt defined the eating disorder, reflected on its connections with the obesity; I asked him also about binge eating and orthorexia, and he articulated the issues eloquently and profoundly, and in the same manner, we reflected upon other topics such as familial support, treatment of eating disorders, and more.
I was utterly blown away by Matt’s knowledge. I didn’t only learn a lot; he also challenged me to think deeply about the issues he elaborated in such depth, that I cannot but be confident that you are going to appreciate him as much as I did.
Thank you, and I hope you’ll enjoy.

Episode 20 – My Story, Part 3
Episode in

This week’s episode is the continuation of ‘My Story’ series.
I start where I left off last time, in Part 2.
The motivation behind this series is still the same – I want to tell my story and portray emotional state I was in. My intention was always to try and resonate with others, and to help health practitioners understand more closely what morbid obesity, the transition to a different lifestyle, and life afterwards, looks like.
So, my main focus will never change. I always aim to help and hopefully inspire people to change for the better.
In Part 3, I talk about the first half of 2010, the most eventful and impactful year of that period of my life.
I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Episode 19 – Conversation on Diabetes, with Emma Storey-Gordon
Episode in
????????for?????
This week’s episode is my shortest conversation so far, and it was entirely focused on one topic, without any deteriorating from it. The topic is Diabetes, and I had the best person to give me the answers – a returning guest on this show – Emma Storey Gordon.
Even though the topic is Diabetes, and we touched on in general terms, the discussion was mainly aimed at the Type 2 Diabetes, which is a subject that Emma is researching thoroughly for quite some time now.
Besides general information, we talked about some of the most common misconceptions on Diabetes, it’s link with obesity, approach to management through lifestyle, advice on nutrition, exercise, and we mentioned other stuff such as genetical predisposition and more.
So, with it being the shortest conversation so far on this podcast, I think we packed it with a lot of good information, and Emma delivered the answers and advice in a very understandable and applicable manner.
I hope you’ll appreciate it and find the information useful.
Thank you very much for your time, and until the next time – cheers

Episode 17 – Getting Up After a Knockout
Episode in
????????for?????
In this week’s episode, I talk about a fight that lasted for only the last few weeks, but it punched me with menacing force. It made me revert to coping mechanisms that I didn’t even realise are still part of my arsenal, and unleashed habits that I was sure I eliminated eight years ago.
However, I got out of it abruptly. And even though it scared the crap out of me, I feel grateful for yet another experience that thought me something about myself, and – however corny it may appear – made me stronger.
I was unable to bring the standard quality of content, but I genuinely hope this very short episode wasn’t entirely irrelevant.

Episode 16 – Obesity Epidemic, with Stephan Guyenet, PhD
Episode in
????????for?????
When I decided to launch this podcast last year, one of my biggest desires regarding its content was interviewing Stephan Guyenet, an ideal guest for this show and my audience. So – after fifteen episodes, here I am, talking to the gentleman.
I had a privilege to talk to one of the smartest people in the realm of obesity research. I introduce Stephan appropriately before the interview starts, but now I wanted to say that we discussed not only obesity research but many factors which directly affect and contribute to the discouragingly linear rise of the obesity epidemic prevalence on a global scale. I also asked a couple of silly questions, as I usually tend to do when I chronically lack sleep, and we touched upon Stephan’s magnificent book titled ‘The Hungry Brain’, and also his new projects.
I hope you’ll enjoy this one. Until the next episode, cheers, and have a wonderful week.

This week I had one of the most enjoyable and interesting conversations with my guest today, the incredible George Fear, who is a Registered Dietitian, Nutrition coach, and an author.
Georgie and I had an excellent one-hour conversation about topics related to obesity, disordered eating, eating disorders, dieting industry and we also exchanged other thoughts, which I hope you’ll find informative and useful. Episode 14 – Story Time, Part 2
Episode in
????????for?????
This week’s episode is one that I have been delaying for quite some time now. When I initially planned the podcast, besides interviews with experts, I also had a general idea of doing my solo episodes. A lot has changed since then, but this idea was something I always liked.
This one is the direct continuation of my very first episode, where I talked about my struggles through a lifetime of obesity. And when I say “direct continuation”, I mean that quite literally – I’m continuing my story where the first episode ended. I begin after running out of the weight management clinic and embarking on a road to change my life completely, a path that led me to this place today.
Since I realise that listening to me telling a story for an hour might be an overkill, I decided to keep this one, and probably the following few, in a 20-odd-minute range. This idea is still prone to change and tweaking, so I’m setting nothing in stone. Even not doing it anymore is an option, in case you don’t find it exciting or you consider it dull, since it’s just me, speaking or reading my essay. If that’s the case, please let me know, my contact info is in the show notes.

Episode 13 – Conversation on Obesity, with Lyle McDonald
Episode in
????????for?????
As promised last Friday, I am bringing you the interview number two with Mr Lyle McDonald.
I must say, this is the first episode where I completely ditched any sort of structure and pace of the interview and replaced it with quite a nonchalant conversation in which my only goal was to pick Lyle’s brain and expose his opinions and knowledge on topics related to obesity.
I had a blast doing this, and if you enjoyed our previous discussion, I could practically guarantee you that you will have fun, and hopefully learn something.

The Man Who Lost 200 lbs Podcast – Episode 12 – Women’s Special, with Lyle McDonald
Episode in
????????for?????
When I initially planned this interview, I aimed it to be focused on providing information that could be useful to women, but also to my fellow coaches who either struggle or merely want to improve with their knowledge of issues specific to females.
Picking Lyle McDonald was a no-brainer for this particular episode, who made it even more special with his generosity – meaning – I planned a 45 minute or 1-hour conversation, and he gave me three and a half hours, plus he happily agreed to do the second part, that we’ll record soon.
Lyle has an incredible ability to articulate a vast quantity of information without ever saying anything irrelevant or uninteresting. So, naturally, I let the man speak. I sat back, enjoyed, and learned a lot.
And I truly hope you will too. Thanks a lot for tuning, everybody. Have a fantastic week! Cheers!

The Man Who Lost 200 lbs Podcast – Episode 11 – All Things Vegan, and Heavy Metal, with Melody Schoenfeld
Episode in
????????for?????
Today’s episode is one that I was immensely looking forward to it. A couple of months ago, I bought a fantastic book called “Pleasure Not Meating You”, with whose author, Melody Schoenfeld, I’ll discuss many things in regards to vegan lifestyle. We talk about moral versus health motivations, transitions from eating meat, and transitions from a vegetarian diet, to veganism; We also talk about vegan diet for weight loss, and Melody gives her opinion on elitist vegans who make veganism seem like a cult, which I found particularly interesting. But my primary goal was to learn the basics from an individual who has been a vegan for almost two decades, and who talks about it without any preaching or agenda whatsoever. I always try to tie in everything I talk about in the context of obesity, but one of my plans is to also serve as a platform which provides good information on various diets and dieting strategies, because even though I believe dieting isn’t the solution, but simply one part of it, it is usually the first action that a person with obesity will go for. Hence, this conversation.
I have to apologise for selfishness, because I chatted with Melody about metal music for like 10-15 minutes, because it’s a topic we’re both passionate about, and warn you that our discussion on the important topics doesn’t start immediately. We start chatting about metal and Melody’s experiences with various bands at the mark: 6:02, and we start our conversation on veganism at 18:55. So feel free to skip this if you don’t have any interest in these topics.
I hope you’ll enjoy it. And have a fantastic week. Cheers!

The Man Who Lost 200 lbs Podcast – Episode 10 – Depression, Body Image and Stigma, with Matt Stranberg
Episode in
????????for?????

The Man Who Lost 200 lbs Podcast – Episode 09 – Medical Treatment of Obesity, with Dr Spencer Nadolsky – Part 1
Episode in
????????for?????
Hello, you wonderful people! I hope all of you entered the year 2018 with enthusiasm and optimism, and that you’re about to make it be a fantastic one!
I must say, I started this year in pretty impressive fashion, by welcoming a guest that I wanted to interview on this podcast even before its official inception.
My guest is Dr Spencer Nadolsky, one of the most respected figures in the online fitness industry, and a practising board-certified family and bariatric medicine physician, who specialises in the treatment of obesity and also currently works predominately online.
So, if there ever were an ideal topic and a guest to discuss one of the leading issues of my entire mission, it’s this one. And I am particularly happy about it because Dr Nadolsky was generous enough to agree that we continue our conversation in the second part, which I will broadcast in the following weeks.
In this episode, we discussed preventability of the obesity, maintenance of lost weight, the assessment of obesity and Doctor Spencer’s personal approach to it, and bariatric surgeries. We also touch upon some of the more ethical and moral aspects of outlook and stigmatisation of obese people within the professional medical circles, and more.
I hope the information provided in the first part of this interview will be helpful and useful, and I will talk to you next week.
Have a great one! Cheers!

The Man Who Lost 200 lbs Podcast – Episode 08 – Eating Disorders, with Matt Stranberg
Episode in
????????for?????
Hello, hello, good people! I hope you’re all enjoying this holiday time. Before I continue with the short introduction to this week episode, I just wanted to take a moment to say that I wish all of you a highly glorious and prosperous New Year.
Even though I started this podcast in the last quarter of 2017, I also want you to know how much I appreciate every single moment of your time that you’ve spent listening to this show, or going out of your way to express your support on Social Media.
I love you guys, and I can only promise that I’ll continue getting better with my presentation and podcasting skills, and be bringing more awesome people to help us all improve our knowledge and our lives, and give tools to those who suffer from obesity to manage it.
Speaking of those amazing individuals, I interview Matthew Stranberg on incredibly important and complex topic of the eating disorder, in the first part of this two-play mini-series.
