What she thought was just the “baby-blues” turned into a more difficult situation.  She was able to get help with the support of her husband and family, and the blog created a place for her to write and share, exist outside of diapers and laundry, and connect with people who share her passions.  At Whistle and Ivy, Bethany shares crochet patterns, recipes, home decor, sewing, jewelry,  and other domestic pursuits. Front Post Frenzy Crochet Potholder by Look At What I Made

I read the Front Post Frenzy Crochet Potholder, a free crochet pattern from guest contributor, Dedri Uys from Look At What I Made. Notes and links for this episode are available at http://freecrochetpodcast.com/28. Get the free crochet pattern for the Front Post Frenzy Crochet Potholder here Add it to your Ravelry favorites or queue here About the guest designer Dedri Uys knows that people visit her blog, Lookatwhatimade, because they are as passionate about crochet as she is (or as passionate about baking as she used to be).  Whether your joy is yarn or cakes, she would love for her readers to walk away from this site having accomplished something;  or to feel like a little child, running up to their mom or dad, squealing “Look at what I made!” Dedri doesn't think there is anything better for the soul than a sense of accomplishment, no matter how small the “victory”, that’s why almost everything on her site is presented as a step-by-step guide (with a few of her own “Look at what I made!” moments thrown in for good measure). LookatwhatImade started out as an ‘anything-I-can-make-or-bake-or-fake’ blog 5 years ago and has turned into a full-on crochet fest.  Things have changed drastically!  The most notable change is probably the fact that Dedri has a side-kick to help her run this site; her name is Jenny and you can read all about her here. Nowadays, the website focusses mainly on crochet tutorials and designs – which are, in the main, free for your enjoyment.  Dedri is passionate about (and obsessed with) crochet and believes it is not only a craft, but a life-saving panacea.  It is her therapy and has kept her medication-free for 5 years, and she firmly believes that it can help others too. Dedri is also the proud mother of three gorgeous, whacky boys and a handsome and funny husband who has recently learned to crochet. Dedri also works as a radiotherapist 4 days a week at Charing Cross hospital. She gets to stay home with the boys on Wednesdays Dedri is also the author of Amamani Puzzle Balls, a book of crochet patterns for amigurumi Amish puzzle balls, and the editor and one of the featured designers in Big Hook Rag Crochet. You can also find Dedri on Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | Ravelry | Twitter About this pattern Finished Size 7.5” (19 cm) in diameter. Pear Blossom Edging by Mrs. Micawber

I read the Pear Blossom Edging, a crochet pattern from guest contributor, Sue Perez (also known as Mrs. Micawber) from Mr. Micawber's Recipe for Happiness. Notes and links for this episode are available at http://freecrochetpodcast.com/17. Get the free crochet pattern for the Pear Blossom Edging here Add it to your Ravelry favorites or queue here About the guest designer Sue Perez is a native Californian happily transplanted to small-town Wisconsin. She was learned to crochet as a child from her sister. Though she drifted away from crochet in her 20s, she picked up the hook again in her 30s. In 2011, she started her blog, Mr. Micawber’s Recipe for Happiness, and soon found herself publishing free crochet patterns, many of which feature step-by-step photos, charts, and/or video tutorials. In 2012, she sold her first design to Interweave Crochet and was "flabbergasted" when it appeared on the magazine’s cover. Sue's patterns have appeared in Interweave Crochet and Love of Crochet, and she continues to offer free patterns on her blog. Sue's favorite patterns often feature techniques that aren't always part of the standard crochet canon – Knotless Chains, Knotless Standing Stitches, Invisible Joins, and Limpets, for example – and she loves to invent (or unvent) custom techniques and stitches. Her crochet heroes are Vashti Braha, Doris Chan, and Deborah Atkinson of Snowcatcher (the guest designer in episode 11). Sue also enjoys cycling, photographing trees and wildflowers, and chronicling the changing seasons on her blog. One day she hopes to complete a century ride (a 100-mile bike ride), and write a crochet-related book. You can also find Sue on Ravelry  About this pattern Materials Small amounts of desired yarn (for fine or sportweight yarn, allow about 4 yards per motif segment, and slightly more for heavier yarns) Appropriate size hook Marker or yarn scrap Gauge Gauge is not important for this pattern.   About the (Inter)National Crochet Month series I'm sharing an audio crochet pattern daily in March, 2016 to celebrate (Inter)National Crochet Month! She's been crocheting since her great grandmother first handed her a hook at the age of 8. She earned adegree in costume design from The Theatre School at DePaul University and worked professionally as a costume designer/creator/pattern maker. She earned another degree in studio art/painting/sculpture while managing the costume department at Adelphi University in Long Island, NY. At some point, she was set up on a blind date with a Jersey boy and later found herself married and living in New Jersey. In 2007, Jessie became a stay at home mom to her twin girls. She started Jessie At Home as a way to share photos and stories of the girls with her family and eventually started adding crafty posts and patterns until it evolved into the fun crochet, knit, and family blog that it is today. Jessie is very active in the Crochet Guild of America. Like me, she is a volunteer blogger for CGOA Now! Jessie has won several awards in the CGOA Design Competition. In 2013, she started designing for others publishers, including RedHeart.com, I Like Crochet, MainlyCrochet, and Crochet! Magazine. Jessie and I co-host a monthly link party for all you knitters out there. Share your projects with us at the Knitting Love Link Party here.
