We are a group of Master Mason living the Bakken region of North Dakota trying to further ourselves in Freemasonry and helping our brothers in the area connect with fellow Masons. As society changes, we feel the tenets of Masonry are still as important today and they have ever been and hope to continue carrying the message to fellow worthy men in our area and beyond.

The Road of Masonry
By Bro. Douglas Malloch
Men build a Road of Masonry
Across the hills and dales;
Unite the prairie and the sea,
The mountains and the vales
They cross the chasm, bridge the stream
They point to where the turrets gleam,
and many men for many a day
Who seek the heights shall find the way
Men build a Road of Masonry
But not for self they build
With footsteps of humility
The hearts of men are thrilled.
This music makes their labors sweet;
The endless tramp of other feet
The thought that men shall travel thus
An easier road because of us.
We build the Road of Masonry
With other men in mind;
We do not build for you and me,
We build for all mankind.
We build a road, remember, men
Build not for Now, but build for When,
And other men who walk the way
Shall find the road we build today.
Who builds the Road of Masonry,
Though small or great his part,
However hard the task may be
May toil with singing heart.
For it is something, after all,
When muscles tire and shadows fall,
To know that other men shall bless
the BUILDER for his faithfulness

MASONIC EMBLEM
by Bro. C. Pylate Price
MASONIC EMBLEM
The square and compasses and the letter G
I proudly wear for the world to see
It’s the most recognized emblem in Masonry.
When you wear it on your ring or cap
It lets people know we’re still on the map
And many more brothers I do meet
When I walk down a strange street.
Folks should see that we do right
For Masons are the sons of light
The fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man
For our great fraternity the emblem does stand.

I’D RATHER WATCH A WINNER
by Bro. Edgar Guest
I’d rather watch a winner, than hear one any day,
I’d rather have him walk with me, than merely show the way.
The eye’s a better pupil, more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing but example’s always clear.
The best of all the coaches, are the ones who live their creeds,
For to see the good in action is what everybody needs.
I can soon learn how to do it, if you show me how it’s done,
I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run.
The lectures you deliver may be very wise and true,
But I’d rather get my lessons by observing what you do.
For I may misunderstand you, and the high advice you give,
But there is no misunderstanding how you act and how you live,
Yes, I’d rather watch a winner, than hear one any day,
I’d rather watch a leader, modeling the way.

A MASON
A Mason is a man who professes a faith in God. As a man of faith, he uses the tools of moral and ethical truths to serve mankind.
A Mason binds himself to like-minded men in a Brotherhood that transcends all religious, ethnic, social, cultural, and educational differences.
In fellowship with his Brothers, a Mason finds ways in which to serve his God, his family, his fellowman, and his country.
A Mason is dedicated. He recognizes his responsibility for justice, truth, charity, enlightenment, freedom and liberty, honesty and integrity in all aspects of human endeavor.
A Mason is such a man.

BEST WISHES
by Cyril E. Brubaker
May the cause of Brotherhood
‘Round the World be understood;
And peace espoused in every land,
By one and all on every hand.
May the joys of friendships be renewed,
Greed, and lust, and avarice subdued.
May the good which can be done,
Touch the lives of everyone.
May the gifts which we possess,
Be deployed for happiness.

015 – Freemasonry in the Bakken – Sue Bickel, Wife of ND Grand Master
Episode in
Freemasonry in the Bakken
We have the pleasure of having a conversation with Sue Bickel, the North Dakota Grand Master’s wife about their life, being a wife of a Freemason and her unique perspective on the Grand Master’s position.
A Mason’s Wife
by Robert Pinkerton
From active Masons, resolute,
Our wives and families we salute;
We surely know the price you pay,
Who sit alone while we’re away.
No high degrees on you conferred,
In Lodge, your name is seldom heard;
You serve our cause though out of sight,
While sitting home alone tonight.
Masonic papers list our names,
Awards are given, fit to frame;
But yours is absent…you who strive,
To keep our fortitude alive.
You’re part of every helpful deed,
On your encouragement we feed;
Without your blessings, how could we,
Continue acts of charity?
And so, this poem, we dedicate,
To every Master Mason’s mate;
And offer our undying love,
Rewards await in Heaven above.

Episode in
Freemasonry in the Bakken
“As we continue to improve ourselves in Masonry, we are indeed improving life. We know from history that without ideals to guide us, the garden of a man’s life will not grow into a place of beauty.” – Stanley F. Maxwell
We take some time to talk about Groundhog Day and other misconceptions in the first of a series of episodes on Masonic Misrepresentation. We are joined, once again, by Brother Brandon and enjoy a lighthearted discussion on some of the things people have attributed to Freemasons.
A DESTINY
by Bro. Edwin Markham
Where is a destiny that makes us Brothers;
None goes his way alone;
All that we send into the lives of others
Come back to our own.
I care not what his temple or creeds,
One thing hold firm and fast-
That into his fateful heap of days and deeds
The soul of man is cast.

A BROTHER’S HAND
by Brother George B. Staff
When you’re feeling all downhearted,
And life’s hard to understand,
Say, it’s fine to feel the pressure
Of a Brother’s friendly hand.
Just to know he sympathizes,
Though he doesn’t say a word;
How it starts your courage climbing,
As your heart is touched and stirred.
With an arm across your shoulders,
And a grip you love to find,
How it makes you feel the bounding
Of the hearts of humankind.
It is just a little token
Of an ever growing band,
For there’s faith and hope and courage
In a Brother’s friendly hand!
