In this episode, I got that opportunity to interview the homie Sam @hemlock_ersnt of Future Islands. We talk about the band's early years, toiling in obscurity but slowly building a core audience, the sincerity behind one of the most legendary Late Show TV performances, and his growth as an artist and writer. With seven studio albums under his belt with Future Islands and three more released under his rap pseudonym Hemlock Ernst, Sam shared insights into his creative process. We explored his approach to playing with perception and the unexplored themes of his latest experimental rap project, Studying Absence, produced by Icky Reels.

Marvin Somodio is a professional boxing trainer from the world-renowned  Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA. He made his mark as the assistant trainer alongside HOF Coach Freddie Roach, being in the corner of boxing all-time greats: Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Brian Villoria, Russlan Providnikov, and Victor Postal, to name a few. He also has a stable of fighters,  including WBA Welterweight Champion Emantas Stanionis, Former WBC Featherweight Champ Mark Magsayo, and Undefeated Umar JamDzambekov. This episode delves into Marvin's early upbringing in the Philippines, his journey of overcoming loss, and how he seized the opportunity to work with his heroes. In the new season's first episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing my long-time friend Christopher Gyorgyovich. For 15-plus years, he's been releasing music under Roman Candles and self-publishing The Stowaways, a music fanzine focusing primarily on local bands.
