3: Role models, gender disparity and the importance of Herstory - The women in tech episode.

In an International Women’s Day special, we tackle the topic of gender equality in technology.    Despite the work done to highlight the deficit of females taking on tech roles, recent reports suggest there is still much to do. In this podcast, we find out what the blockers are, how hard is it for women to carve out careers in tech and what more can be done to get women into the technology industry.    This time we’ve assembled two guests perfectly placed to get the inside track.    First, we welcome an individual who campaigns tirelessly to increase gender diversity across STEM. Dr. Anne-Marie Imafadion MBE, who among other great things is co-founder of STEMettes, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in the STEM sectors.    Alongside Anne-Marie is Lucy Hamilton, an Integrations & API Developer at Pace Integration – a new entrant to the industry, Lucy shares her experience and aspirations as a female new to working in technology.    This episode is full of references, organisations and herstory you should definitely explore further:   ·         Stemettes ·         The Women Tech Charge Podcast ·         Dame Vera Stephanie "Steve" Shirley ·         Gladys West ·         Katherine Johnson ·         Sheryl Sandberg ·         Hedy Lamarr ·         Hidden Figures ·         The Consulting Academy Lucy graduated from ·         Invisible Women by Caroline Criado-Perez ·         Mrs. Moneypenny's Career Advice for Ambitious Women   Search ‘#Get2020Vision’ on social media to find us or get in touch here: get2020vision@qa.com Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple, Audio Boom, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. 2: Is it too late to hit the career reset button? The reskilling episode.

In 2020, is it a case of climbing the career ladder or are you on a career climbing frame?  Inspired by a recent survey which suggests that most people don’t decide what they truly want to do until they are 33, this episode delves into the world of retraining. The same report also claims that millennials will have 11 job roles in their lifetime, so we also ask the question: When, if ever, is it too late to hit the career reset button? In this episode of Get2020Vision, we explore the issues surrounding a change in career, tweaking things slightly, starting again completely, experience vs qualifications and there’s even, oddly, a reference to a stegosaurus.  As always, we’re joined by people who have been there and done it. Listen to Victoria Sacre, who trained for years to become a graphic designer, only to reskill and become a DevOps Engineer. Also joining us is Ian Andrews, Head of Engineering at Nationwide, Ian is also Director of the Tech Talent Charter – in both roles Ian is directly involved with reskilling and retraining people.  This episode is useful for anyone looking to switch up skills, make moves or promote productivity from an individual or business perspective. 1: AAAHHH! My kid doesn’t want to go to Uni – the parental preconceptions episode.

You’ve done your research, gathered the facts and decided what’s next from a career perspective. Boom, alternative career path here you come! But hold your horses, there’s a problem- your parents hate the idea. What do you do? This episode unearths the world of parental preconceptions when it comes to that next skills step. We ask: Are parents doing young people a disservice by not gathering all the facts? What better way to do this than meet a former degree apprentice and his mum to take us through what it’s like to break down parental judgements in order to follow a different career path.
