This week on the podcast we’ll come around God’s beautiful invitation to REST. This rest isn’t just the gift of sleep or the pause of a Sabbath day—it’s the deep, soul-stirring rest that only comes when we surrender to God’s unfailing love, who is Jesus.  As long as it is called “Today,” God beckons us to lay down the weight of our own efforts, and to find our peace and our pace in His way, His heart. And even when wrestle or get it wrong, His mercies are endless, His invitation still currently just as present as the air we breathe! I was a bit reflective this week on the podcast, and for good reason! Nate and I are celebrating 30 years of marriage while also walking into a new season of the house growing quieter. Today we will let several places in Scripture remind us of all the reasons that we have to rest in our King and His Kingdom, especially when it’s time to lay our head down on our pillow at night. Why is this so often when our minds race, our worries stir, and our doubt rise?  I share about some of my own struggles with sleep, but how learning to shift my mind and heart to truth (in addition to a couple of practical habits that partner with the truth!) I have experienced significant breakthrough! We live in a world that runs at an unsustainable pace. As a result of this, you and I end up hosting this deep weariness and fatigue in our heart and soul. If we’re not careful, we’ll burn out and miss the beautiful opportunity of bearing witness to God’s goodness, grace and love to those around us and under our care. Today we’ll talk about inviting God to bring His “Kingdom Order” over our lives, our days, and even our to-do lists! When we invite Him in, He really does show up on our behalf. Today we will remember together the incredible calling and identity that we have as God’s “witnesses” to this broken and hurting world. And it’s more than just about telling people about God, in fact, I don’t know if that was ever really the plan… God‘s presence with us and in us, has always been the plan. And because this is experiential and transformational, we end up bearing witness to the beautiful, personally nuanced, “withness” of God…the One who knows us and loves us …right in the middle of our mundane! Today we’re coming around my release of Fly the Nest Song (Carry You) which is a song that has truly helped me mark this moment of our kids “flying the nest.” There’s a lot to hold in this bittersweet season of letting go! We can hold truth or lies, peace or anxiety, freedom or fear.  Even if you’re not launching kids into this world, we can all still learn to grow in the letting go of things we want and people we love. And if we have eyes to see it, God is always leading us and inviting us to release with freedom and trust that His way is better than we know! Okay wow, I bawled through the preparing of this one, y’all! Get ready to hear about a moment of great celebration in our family’s life together. Season 9 has been such a joy! In celebration of the full ALBUM RELEASE “Captivate Us” (available tomorrow, everywhere you listen to music!) we are going to come around this tried and true song that still carries so much heart and history in my story! This song is very descriptive of who Jesus is, even describing His face, His eyes, His hands, His loving arms—and though we don’t see Him now in the physical sense—I wonder if it helps prepare us for the day that we will see Him face to face! This song is really a “glorious in the mundane” kind of prayer, that I believe like 1 Peter 1 says, “guards us through faith, for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time!” I’ll talk to you soon! It has been SO beautiful to get to share these songs (and stories behind the songs!) but most importantly, the truth imbedded in them! Today we are going to look at “For Your Splendor,” a new version of a tried and true song that is deeply personal to me. I’d even venture to say that it’s quintessential when it comes to my sound and heart as a worshiper! It is from Isaiah 61, and we’ll come around the vital posture of being planted in the Lord, and staying deeply connected to Him at our roots! I have LOVED this spring series so much! God has been reminding me of truth that He set in my heart, so long ago, knowing that I would need that truth to wash over me again, TODAY! We are going to remember together, that God always knows where to find us. Though there’s much temptation to just skip being made in the secret place (especially when we see the world around us charging forward!) God is preparing us, protecting us and will promote us when we wait in trust for Him.  We will also look into the connection of God’s presence being one of the central ways that we are able to remain in the love of God, as Jesus commanded us. It’s going to be a beautiful time to even receive His love over us once more! Today we are celebrating the release of another EP called “Knees to the Earth,” which is the next three songs from the "Live from Keeper's Branch" album  that we are unfolding this spring! Not only are these songs so sacred to us, many of them have very sacred stories behind them and today’s song emphasis, “Knees to the Earth,” is definitely one of those kind of stories! You don’t want to miss it!  And you know me, it’s never just about the song or its story, but it’s always about the truth that’s set in them! Today we’ll keep coming around what it looks like to bloom where we are planted, even when it’s hidden and hard! Okay so…somehow this episode got really personal! Did I actually just reveal what I want my “Grandma” name to be, someday?  Or, maybe it feels personal because this song, “Lord, I Need You”, that we’ll come around today, is very dear to me! I’ll talk about being a part of writing it around a table of dear friends, who have been more like brothers to me. But, I’ll also give you some insight into being the only woman at that table, and in that community, for a very long time. It was both a privilege and a pruning ground that God used to grow me as a woman, songwriter and leader.  I’ll also begin a narrative that I’ll carry throughout some of the other episodes this spring, about the very beginnings of God calling me to songwriting and worship leading. Rather than doors flying open and me, running with momentum, it was more a still—even sometimes silent and hidden—beginning. It was more that God had given me a deposit and a promise of something that was to come. But, of course, the way in which He’d have me carry that out, was to wait on Him to unfold the story in the way that only He could! I am so excited to continue this spring series, coming around my new EP,  “You Revive Me”, available everywhere you listen to music! Y’all know me by now, that these songs are simply a diving board for us to plunge into the deep together! Into the glorious things of God…right in the middle of our mundane! Today we will do just that, as we come around the beautiful offering that each of us have to bring, in worship of our King. It has been so beautiful to get to release some new, yet familiar—even tried and true songs—in this season! One of those is the song, “Breathe” paired with another beloved song, “Let it Be Jesus.” Today, I’ll take you back to the seasons I was in when I first began to sing and lead both of these beautiful songs. They were very significant seasons in my life and in my spiritual formation, and to merge them together on this new album is such a joy. It’s amazing how songs can truly become guideposts and guardrails in our journey, even a gateway to surrendering more of our heart to God’s heart!  We’ll kind of walk through that gateway together, using these two songs, and talk about how God wants these proclamations we sing to become realities in our hearts and lives. “God, I breathe Your Name above everything,” is more than just a beautiful lyric! Today we will kick off a spring series in celebration of NEW (but familiar!) music—my EP “You Revive Me”, releases THIS WEEK wherever you listen to music! I’ve named today’s episode “Up ‘Till Now”, because this album (that will continue to unfold throughout the spring) feels like an Ebenezer moment, to stop and say, “Up ‘till now, the Lord has been our help!” He has been so faithful, so kind and true, even through some of the hardest seasons in life. Also, as promised, today I will share with you what I wrote and read at my precious Mama’s celebration of life!
