Starring alongside him: a tastefully attractive Yvette Mimieux. This love-on-the-run rebel movie is a little bit country, and a little bit rock-and-roll. There are guns, car chases, shootouts, and some darker, devilish stuff, like rape-revenge and genuine backwater terror. It just never lets up. Two-thirds of your Gooble Guys’ claim this as one of their favorite films (guess who’s the dissenter), and the joyousness really shines throughout this episode. In Episode 1 of our Two-Part Episode Extravaganza as we near the end of season 1 of Gooble Gobble, and take our little summer vacay, we begin with the work of a true cinematic gem. Jamaa Fanaka’s Penitentiary holds within it all of what makes Fanaka’s films so unique, without ever losing the essence of silliness. Your Gooble Gobble guys got their eyes on this exploitation-prison flick through the wondrous, mysterious world of YouTube, where people post stuff for the sake of it being out there for others to see. Penitentiary is an exploitation film with a soul—a sad, introspective wolf hiding in a fluffy, superficially cartoony sheep’s clothing. That doesn’t do it for you? Then listen to the episode! When your Gooble Gobble Guys came across this 1959 crime flick, we couldn’t help but to cover it. Then, when we realized it was pretty much the same movie as a previous one we covered, well, we decided to cover it anyway! Because who has the time? This buddy cop movie is episodic in nature, so much so, it feels like a failed television series stitched together to make a somehow surprisingly un-failure of a movie. Welp, whatever! Life sometimes is mysterious and mystical and mystifiying and mistabulous. Carrie Fisher, John Travolta’s brother, the bad guy from Robocop, and a bunch of other people come together to make this trying-to-be-funny film full of offensive stereotypes, blips of almost brilliance, and some definite good times. It’s certainly worth a couple hours of your precious life. Find this one on YouTube, watch it, and enjoy it. We Gooble Gobble Guys know what cool is. Fred Williamson is cool. Jim Brown? Cool. Jim Kelly is so cool he makes ice cream look like lava cake. Richard Roundtree? Well, does also being known as “Shaft” sound cool to you? It doesn’t take a genius to recognize the cool factor a movie would possess by jamming all these legends onto the same screen, but in practice, well, things aren’t as cool as they seem. This week your Gooble Gobble Guys tackle Fred Williamson’s 1982 cop drama, One Down, Two to go. We debate the merits of coolness being enough to overcome a bad movie, and try to figure out just where this movie went right, while pinpointing every little point where it went wrong. Easy Money is a heist movie. It’s a romance movie. It’s a Hong Kong movie. It’s a movie sponsored by Ralph Lauren. It’s all of these things in one action packed hour-and-thirty-six minutes, and it can still be found where we originally stumbled up on it—right on Netflix! So, finally, Netflix is good for something, and also, finally, your Gooble Gobble Guys have a reason to exist. We love arguing about movies, sure, but what about commodification? Corporatization? ­Entourage-ication? We discuss these issues in the broadest of strokes, and stroke our egos in one hand while petting our staunch preconceptions and opinions with the other. But don’t worry, our mouths have their eyes on the prize, and that’s giving you gooblers and gobblers out there a new movie to consider! Catch this new episode, and then check out the movie!

Can’t Stop The Music stars Steve Guttenberg. Are you excited? It’s also the origin story of The Village People. The band. Remember them? Are you getting more excited? And they also star in Can’t Stop The Music. Are you inappropriately excited? Are you naked yet? Good. Get naked. Get crazy. Because this movie is awful. Or it’s great. Or it’s just okay. Listen to your Gooble Gobble Guys debate in a three-way argument for the ages. Our tenth episode is a doozy. It’s fun, it’s depressing, it’s passionate, it’s stupid, it’s everything you value in Gooble Gobble, plus a healthy discussion of Steven Robert Guttenberg. Listen to the episode. Sing along. We got the privilege of seeing this on Netflix, but you’ll have to rent this sucker for the going rate of 3US$ from any number of streaming platforms, including Amazon Video, Vudu, YouTube, iTunes, and Google Play.

Crucible of Horror is an English horror film from the 70’s that, while obviously about a horrible subject matter (the relentless psychological and physical abuse a tyrannical but otherwise well-mannered father inflicts on his daughter and wife), keeps a sophisticated air about it. Oh those Brits, with their incredible ability to repress. Crucible of Horror is part awesome and part not awesome. It just depends on where you aim your focus. While it isn’t the greatest horror film, and it isn’t the most graphic horror film, and with Spencer questioning if it’s even a horror film at all, we think if you need an unsettling evening, this mother trucker will scratch your itch, you sicky! Crucible of Horror was a Netflix find that has since disappeared, though if you want to go old school you can purchase the DVD on Amazon, or keep searching for it out there in the Internet-iverse.

Time Stalkers: On this episode of Gooble Gobble, we try the tried and true Made-For-TV-Movie, an underappreciated pseudo-genre of sorts that usually promises to at least be a bizarre cinematic experience. But boy were we not ready for the spectacularly crappy, immensely stupid, and perfectly amazing Time Stalkers, by Michael Shultz (no relation to Charles Schulz, because there’s a “T” missing), starring the one-of-a-kind William Devane, the one-of-a-kind-lunatic Klaus Kinski, and a slew of pop culture amoebas and some striking objects. 1987 is now famous for two things—being Jules’ birth year, and Time Stalkers! We caught it on Netflix, but it’s gone from there. Luckily it can be found on YouTube, or maybe even still on TV!  

Our New Year’s resolution was to span the globe for our 2016 opener. And boy, are we lucky the dart was sticking mostly into India on the map (Nepal would’ve been tough). Singham is a Gooble Gobble anomaly—this stuff is weird even for us. But it is a good introduction Bollywood, because it is essentially homage to the “masala days” of the black sheep of world cinema. Singham has a lot of everything, including a giant action hero named Singham who stops at nothing to punish evil, except when he stops to do an elaborate musical number. If you like lily livered bad guys getting smashed by the most iron fisted of good guys, romance of the pocket full of daisies variety, cartoonish humor, and film made on a truly epic scale in every facet, Singham is a tiger roaring, ground pounding, meticulously choreographed great time! Find Singham on Netflix before it disappears! And don’t forget to dance and sing along, and kick some butt by sitting on the couch and watching a movie.

William Friedkin’s filthy thriller, Jade, is a dirty little secret in the Netflix catalogue. A 90’s movie through and through—most evident because it stars David Caruso, Linda Fiorentino and Chazz Palminteri—Jade is full of nasty lines, nasty imagery, and a twisty fruity plot. But don’t let the gutter talk fool you, there’s some really awesome technical stuff going on, and enough dark mystery to lure the dog out of you. Not all of your Gooble Gobble guys loved Jade, but not all of your Gooble Gobble guys are cool people, Spencer! Catch this one on Netflix.

Gog is one of those movies that is so bad it’s good, or it’s so bad it’s just really bad. Either way, we had a blast with this one! Your Gooble Gobble guys know when a “special” movie crosses our path. And a sci-fi crapper from 1954 that was hailed upon release for its realistic science and is, in reality, just a dumb and ridiculous movie is as “special” as “special” gets. Are bad movies worth watching? Sometimes! Are bad movies “bad” if they are still fun? We don’t know. Maybe! Hong Kong cinema is a favorite of the Gooble Gobble overlord, Mr. Dan Roe. Listen as Spencer and Jules gooble and gobble with Dan over this lesser known but awesome entry from the Hong Kong catalogue. Superheroes suck, but they suck less so when in the hands of the inimitable Johnnie To, and if it brings to memory the great Sam Raimi and the latter films of his Evil Dead trilogy, well, you’ve just roped yourself some fans for life! We gobbled this one up on Netflix, and lucky for all you Netflix-ers it’s still there! Get your friends password, or use your own that you pay for (you diligent member of streaming society), to check out this fun and unique film. And, duh, like, listen to the episode! It’s a goodie!

If you aren’t Goobling and/or Gobbling, then what are you doing? Working? Raising Children? Loving your partner? Please. That stuff is stupid and a waste of time. What you should being doing is listening to this week’s episode! It’s about a movie called Suddenly, from 1954, starring Frank Sinatra as a hit man looking to assassinate the President who happens to be stopping by a train station in a small town called Suddenly! This claustrophobic crime film is a blast of black and white, or it’s a bore of black and white. See what side each of your Gooble Gobble Guys ends up on as we argue about this little gem we found swimming in the deep end of the Netflix pool. Unfortunately it’s no longer available there. In the inaugural episode of Gooble Gobble, your gobbling goblins of cinematic virtue have scoured all the webs in the wide world to find the possibly classic cult films spiraling down the rabbit hole to obscurity. In other words: we are watching movies barely anyone has seen and telling you if they are worth watching! And our first mission could not have been more successful. We found Little Cigars—a little person caper movie, Bonnie & Clyde meets The Seven Dwarves—on Netflix. Then it disappeared. It popped up on Youtube, but soon fell through the cracks. Now you can find it on The Daily Motion, in two parts, but who knows for how long? Listen to our podcast, get pumped, and get to watching this movie streaming online before it moseys on to the next streaming service, or evaporates into The Cloud!
