Had the great pleasure to sit down with Oliver Bateman of Oliver Bateman Does the Work to discuss 1989’s No Holds Barred starring Hulk Hogan. The film is a failure on most technical and artistic dimensions but retains a certain charm. I enjoyed watching it. It’s free on Tubi, but you don’t really need to see it in order to follow our conversation, which is only partially about the film. I’ve been reading Oliver’s work for the past few years and he’s a great writer. I suggest you go subscribe to his Substack. While the film doesn’t present itself as “realistic,” it does provide insight into attitudes about childhood and parenting in the 1990s.
