Check out the new Starwalker Studios video game podcast Age of Gaming.I’m sorry to announce that this will be the last episode of Guardians of Destiny. We’d hoped to do this podcast for a good long while, but the game just hasn’t lived up to expectations. I really enjoy the game play of Destiny, but the lack of content and story is more than disappointing. It hasn’t even been 3 months and I’m bored with the game. The announced material in the first expansion sounds like a few days’ worth of gameplay. There also aren’t the continual content additions we’d expected. There’s just not enough to talk about for me to do a weekly podcast.I also don’t feel right promoting a game and company that put out so much hype and false advertising and then failed to deliver.Instead, we are launching a new podcast, Age of Gaming, in which we will discuss any and all games that we’re currently playing and enjoying. Nikki will be joining me on that show as well as other guests. We will primarily be discussing PS4 and PC games, as those are the systems we have, but who knows what the future holds? We both preordered both Destiny expansions, so it’s very likely we’ll talk about Destiny on Age of Gaming when those come out.I hope you’ll check out the new show. You can find it here. It will also be on iTunes very soon. It will be released every Wednesday.

Once you reach level 6 for factions you start getting the chance to get special faction shaders. I've heard of people getting them as low as level ,6 but mostly people say they get their first shader at level 10. There seems to be 3 shaders per faction. ©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

Please check out our new Patreon page!Noob TipsFind out where events are happening in game right now!Lance Cabeca wrote in with some tips:The daily mission is a great way to get some good loot for leveling up your character. Run each day on each character. Can even be done solo if you’re high enough level and awesome.Need strange coins? This is also easy. Do the Nightfall and the weekly Heroic on maximum difficulty.Visit this site if you're looking for people for your strike team. If you want to get as many coins, ascendant energy and shards as you possibly can, build another character of the same class that you have (if you are a warlock, build another warlock...or two!) and level them up to 20. Then you can run the harder end game instances with your main character, then drop your armor and weapons off in the vault and put them on your next character and do it again. If you have three characters that are all warlocks, and you ran the weekly heroic on the hardest difficulty using this process, you would end up with 27 strange coins per week. You can also use this method to get raid gear, so you can do the raid 6x per week (3 on normal, 3 on hard) if you have three characters. If you pvp & pve then choosing a faction is the way to go because all you rep gains combine together. Once you get to level 3, you get a legendary each level.©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

Could be weapon or armor, and I don’t think it’s even guaranteed to be for your class.©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

Noob TipsWhat the patrol icons mean.
How close are you to your next Light Level?
Eric Grella wrote with some more information on getting to 30.You will never be able to reach level 30 without raid gear. I have an exotic helmet and fully upgraded legendary armor and only reached level 29. Raid gear maxes out at 436 Defense as opposed to the 402 of regular legendary armor.Hector Polanco also wrote in with some helpful information.I'm a fan of the show and just finished your most recent episode and wanted to give you more information on factions and some good reasons to continue leveling factions. I have reached rank 3 for both Dead Orbit and New Monarchy and noticed that I received a legendary weapon for each faction when reaching level 3. So I would recommend switching to a new faction after level 3. I'm currently working on FWC. I'm curious to see what happens after reaching 4, so I may go back to Vanguard after FWC . Also your Vanguard marks and Crucible marks cap at 200!!! A lot of people don't know this and find out the hard way. If you didn't already know, the only way to reach 30 is to have all raid gear or a combination of one exotic piece and the rest raid. Exotics and raid armor pieces each can reach a light level of 30 and you need a total of 120 light from all armor combined to reach level 30. So with that said what would someone like me do with faction gear? The best thing to do is buy as much as you can with Vanguard and Crucible marks and dismantle. Each piece will give you at least two shards which you will need to upgrade armor. ©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

Noob TipsYou can get the speeder upgrade by finding all 5 chests on Earth. This is really easy to do. You won’t get the speeder upgrade from a quest until your first mission on Mars. Here’s a great guide to help you find the gold chests. If you game with a good headset, you can hear the presence of nearby chests and resources (spin metal, helium coils, etc.). If you can hear one, but can’t find it, look up, or look on the other side of a nearby wall. Unfortunately walls and other obstacles don’t block sound like they should. Mobs will often sound like they’re right on top of you when they’re really in the next room. When you get an exotic item, I suggest you keep the purple it’s replacing, especially if you’ve upgraded it. You may one day get a better exotic item in another slot, and if you do, you’ll be glad you still have that old purple.Tip from a listener, Steve O on Twitter:Hold off on purchasing the last defense upgrades on your legendary items until you get your exotic armor item. You want to save your ascendant shards to upgrade your exotic, because Vanguard gear won’t get you to 30. Once you have your exotic upgraded, then you can upgrade the purple items as needed. Also, if you’re going to raid, save your mats to upgrade those drops as opposed to Vanguard or Crucible gear.I assume the same advice applies to weapons and ascendant energy (or whatever it’s called). Each level of rep takes 500 more rep to reach than the one before (at least up to rank 4), so if you want to maximize the rewards you get from rep levels, once you hit vanguard 3 it’s time to join a faction, even if you won’t buy the gear. I’d still pick the faction that fits your play style best, because you never know what they may have in the future.I wouldn’t take this too far. I’d bet money in the future there will be gear for Vanguard rank 4+.Choosing A FactionFirst, buy your class item (hunter cloak, titan mark, or warlock bond) from the faction you want to join and equip it (the item is bought with Glimmer). Now, anytime you’d earn rep with the Vanguard or Crucible, you’ll instead earn it with your chosen faction.Your choice of faction will ideally be based on armor attribute bonuses.Intellect – reduces super cool-downDiscipline – reduces grenade cool-downStrength – reduces melee cool down Future War Cult – Intellect & Discipline (Super & Grenade)Dead Orbit – Discipline & Strength (Grenade & Melee)New Monarchy – Intellect & Strength (Super & Melee)©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

Experiences in the gameExotic Bounty GuideIf you get offered exotic bounties, go online and do your research before you pick one. You can only have one exotic weapon and one exotic armor equipped at a time, and these bounties are really involved, so make sure you get the one for the weapon you want. What’s the deal with factions?Ok, now I’m confused. I checked the three pvp factions, and their gear isn’t any better than the vanguard gear. Why are there 5 factions (vanguard, crucible, dead orbit, future war cult, new monarchy) all with similar gear??? The only difference I can see is the weapons the gear gives buffs to.So I guess the game doesn’t force you to pvp as much as I thought, but there are 4 pvp factions to choose from, and only 1 pve.I really don’t get this. In MMOs there are differences in the factions and real reasons to grind rep with one, a few or all of them. I really don’t see the point of these factions, and I don’t see why someone would take the time to grind rep with them.Noob TipsBe careful on using up your weapon parts to upgrade blue items. Save some back for your legendary, because it takes a lot, I think 16 a pop.Look at the armor you plan on getting and note the upgrade mats. You might want to save back something like helium for that. I turned in all my helium to the vanguard, and then needed to farm it to upgrade my armor.©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

Experiences in the gameThe game needs to replace people who drop the strike team better. Doing a strike with two people is really rough.I don’t like how the game “forces” you to PvP and raid. You need crucible marks to buy gear from any of the three factions. Basically all you can get with vanguard marks is vanguard gear, which doesn’t have the stats I want. It sounds like you need to raid to get the mats to upgrade exotic gear. I wish Bungie would take another page from the MMO book and allow equal progression via PvP or PvE.Listener QuestionMark Rea wants to know:I would love to hear you talk about factions and your thoughts on Bungie's lack of instructions/explanations (tough for non PC/first time MMO players).I’d like to point out that even in MMOs end-game advancement isn’t usually completely spelled out for you in-game. You have to do research online. It’s just that MMO players are used to this. You’re often doing research online long before endgame for things like dungeons, PvP and crafting.I agree it would be nice if there was more info in-game, but I’m not surprised there isn’t. As I said, even in MMOs this info wasn’t all provided in game, and those were on PC. Console games are MUCH more limited. This is a new age of video games. Web sites and apps are as much a part of the game now as the game itself. We need to adapt to this. Here's a great guide on what to do after level 20.Basically advancement after 20 is all gear-based. You get light from gear, which levels you. You still earn experience in order to unlock your class abilities, upgrade weapons, and each xp “level” you earn you receive a mote of light.FactionsAs you level to 20 you can get reputation with the Vanguard (PvE) through world events, bounties and strikes (also daily and weekly heroics), and you can get rep with the Crucible (PvP) through crucible matches. Higher levels of rep unlock more gear, and you need the marks to buy it. The item descriptions will tell you the rep you need.Right now there is also the Queen’s faction. There are three other factions as well: Dead Orbit, Future War Cult and New Monarchy. They each have a vendor in the tower. Rep works the same as the other factions, only these three only take crucible marks. To earn rep with these factions, you buy a class item from them and wear it while doing bounties, strikes, crucible, etc.Noob TipsYou can see your buffs from consumables on your character screen. Usually they give you more glimmer from certain enemies. There will be a small round icon left of your character. If you mouse over it, it will show how much time is left.Switch to the weapons and subclass you want to level up before handing in bounties and quest items.Choose your abilities and weapons based on your activity (this is another MMO trick). For instance, it’s best have a different build for pvp, strikes, missions, etc.Don’t get too fixated on rewards. Like MMOs this game can be very grindy. If all you do is focus on progression, you will get frustrated. Take time off to do things that are fun, regardless of whether or not they aid in your progression. Things like exploring to find chests and ghosts, replaying story missions on harder difficulties, whatever you enjoy. ©2014 Starwalker Studios LLC

You don’t understand DestinyI write a lot of reviews. I know how long they take to craft. I know how long they take to upload to a website and design as a page. So I can take a good guess at how much play-time I can take off any Destiny verdict already delivered. And so far they’ve all come too soon…. No, it might well not be the first one you read, but I don’t care about that. On a game like Destiny, I’m not interested in chasing the perceived traffic win that supposedly comes inherent to the first review to hit the ‘net.
