Hope in the Ordinary

In this episode of Hope in the Ordinary, we look at the story of the rich young ruler in Matthew 19:16–22. He had everything the world could offer wealth, status, influence yet he walked away from Jesus because he couldn’t let go of the one thing that mattered most to him. Together, we’ll unpack what this passage means for us today. What are the things we hold onto that keep us from fully following Christ? What idols are hidden in our hearts? Through scripture, reflection, and practical application, we’ll discover that Jesus isn’t asking us to lose life He’s calling us to gain real, abundant, eternal life. Stay tuned for powerful lessons, heartfelt encouragement, and a reminder that God can use even the most ordinary moments to speak to us in extraordinary ways.

In this episode of Hope in the Ordinary, we study the powerful and sobering story of Jephthah from Judges 11 — a man chosen by God to lead Israel to victory, but whose own words brought deep sorrow. We’ll unpack his vow in the original Hebrew (neder and olah), explore the two main interpretations of what happened to his daughter, and draw out timeless lessons about obedience, wisdom, and the power of our words. Whether it was literal sacrifice or lifelong dedication, the message remains the same: God calls us to trust Him without reckless promises. This episode is a deep Bible study on Jephthah, rash vows, Hebrew word meaning, and learning to walk in faith without bargaining with God. If you’ve ever spoken too quickly, tried to bargain with God, or faced the consequences of a hasty decision, this teaching will encourage you to slow down, seek His will, and obey His Word.

Episode 6 When Obedience Heals: The Story of Naaman In this episode, we dive into the life-changing story of Naaman a respected commander who came to the prophet Elisha expecting a dramatic miracle, but instead received a simple instruction from God: “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River.” At first, Naaman was offended. Why wash in muddy water when cleaner rivers were back home? But God wasn’t just after his healing He was after his heart. Naaman’s miracle came only after he humbled himself and obeyed completely. I preached this message before in a church, but preparing it again for this episode humbled me all over again. It took away my pride and reminded me that no matter how much we know or serve, we all need to submit to God’s way over our own. Join me as we explore why God’s ways are higher than ours, how faith is proven through obedience, and how miracles often come through small, humble steps. What if your pain wasn’t pointless but preparation? In this raw and honest episode, I share my personal journey losing my father as an infant, growing up in poverty, facing rejection, and nearly giving up. But God was working behind the scenes all along. Through biblical stories of Joseph, Paul, and even Jesus, we explore how setbacks are often God’s setup for a greater calling. If you’ve ever asked, “Why did this happen to me?” this episode is for you. Listen now and be reminded: God never wastes pain. There is purpose in your story and hope, even in the ordinary.

Episode 4 Love Her Again In this powerful episode, we walk through the emotional story of Hosea and Gomer a picture of heartbreak, redemption, and relentless love. We’re not just talking about their story we’re talking about yours. As husbands, we’re called to love like Christ loves the Church: with sacrifice, patience, and forgiveness. But what does that look like when your wife makes mistakes? When the feelings fade? When it gets hard? I share my own testimony of how God convicted me about the way I was treating my wife not in big failures, but in the small daily choices. We’ll explore Ephesians 5:25, Hosea 3:1, Matthew 18:21-22, and more through the lens of grace, marriage, and restoration. This episode is for every man learning to love again not just with words, but with action. And if you’ve ever wondered how many times you’re called to forgive this one’s for you. Listen now, share it with a friend, and leave a comment with a verse you’d like us to talk about in a future episode. There’s still hope especially in the ordinary.

In this episode of Hope in the Ordinary, we reflect on Habakkuk 3:17-19—a powerful declaration of faith in the midst of total loss. When the crops failed, the livestock disappeared, and all visible signs of hope were gone, the prophet Habakkuk still declared, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” This message reminds us that real joy is not found in our circumstances but in the unchanging character of God. Even when life doesn’t make sense, God remains our strength and our Savior. If you’re feeling weary, uncertain, or empty, this episode is for you. Listen now and be encouraged to keep trusting, keep worshiping, and keep standing in faith.
